This study aimed to develop an approach to accurately predict the wind models and wind effects of large wind turbines. The wind-induced vibration characteristics of a 5 MW tower-blade coupled wind turbine system have been investigated in this paper. First, the blade-tower integration model was established, which included blades, nacelle, tower and the base of the wind turbine system. The harmonic superposition method and modified blade element momentum theory were then applied to simulate the fluctuating wind field for the rotor blades and tower. Finally, wind-induced responses and equivalent static wind loads (ESWL) of the system were studied based on the modified consistent coupling method, which took into account coupling effects of resonant modes, cross terms of resonant and background responses. Furthermore, useful suggestions were proposed to instruct the wind resistance design of large wind turbines. Based on obtained results, it is shown from the obtained results that wind-induced responses and ESWL were characterized with complicated modal responses, multi-mode coupling effects, and multiple equivalent objectives. Compared with the background component, the resonant component made more contribution to wind-induced responses and equivalent static wind loads at the middle-upper part of the tower and blades, and cross terms between background and resonant components affected the total fluctuation responses, while the background responses were similar with the resonant responses at the bottom of tower.

In this study, we proposed a new type of dual-buoy wave energy converter (WEC) exploiting multi-resonance and analyzed the experimental results from a model test in a 2-D wave flume. A dual-buoy WEC using multi-resonance has two advantages: high efficiency at the resonant frequencies and the potential to extend the frequency range available to extract wave power from the WEC. The suggested WEC was composed of an outer buoy and an inner buoy sliding vertically inside the outer buoy. As the power take-off device, a linear electric generator (LEG) consisting of permanent magnets and coils fixed at each buoy was adopted. Electricity was produced by the relative heave motion between the two buoys. To search for the optimal shape of a dual-buoy WEC, we conducted experiments on the heave motion of a two-body system in regular waves without an LEG installed. Model tests with six combinations of experimental models were conducted in order to find the motion characteristics of a dual-buoy WEC. It was found that model 2, which included a ring-shaped appendage to move the resonant frequency of the outer buoy toward a high value, showed a higher relative heave response amplitude operator (RAO) curve than model 1. In addition, the double-peak shape of the heave RAO curve shown for model 2 indicated the extension of the frequency range for extracting wave power in irregular waves.

In this paper, a magnetic-less dc-dc switching converter realizing an integrable power conversion system is described. Instead of magnetic devices, the inductive impedance range of piezoelectric transducers is utilized to store and resonate the energy for soft-switching. Piezoelectric devices have no windings and deliver the power by the electrodes, which lead to mass product through semiconductor-manufacturing process. This paper presents a resonant-type step-up dc-dc power converter employing a disk-type piezoelectric transducer, analyzing the operation principles and the frequency control characteristics. Also, a topology extension of the single stage converter into cascaded multi-stage is presented and analyzed with the operation principles and control characteristics. For verification of the analysis, a 10W output dc-dc power converter hardware was implemented. The hardware experiments shows a good frequency control and power efficiency greater than 96% in the single stage. A hardware prototype of the extended multi-stage one was also realized and tested. The results shows that the converter has the same frequency control performance and high efficiency such as 93%.

Surge phenomena in multi-stage axial flow compressors were studied with attention to the frequency behaviors. A new parameter "volume-modified reduced surge frequency" was introduced, which took into consideration the essential surge process, i.e., emptying and filling of the working gas in the delivery plenum. The behaviors of the relative surge frequencies at the stall stagnation boundaries, compared with the corresponding duct resonance frequencies, have demonstrated the existence of two types of surges; i.e., a near-resonant surge and a subharmonic surge. The former, which has fundamentally a near-resonance frequency, occurs predominantly at the stall stagnation boundary for the short -and-fat plenum delivery flow-path and the long-and-narrow delivery duct flow-path, and possibly in the intermediate conditions. The latter, which has a subharmonic frequency of the fundamental near-resonant one and occurs mainly in the intermediate zone, is considered to be caused by the reduced frequency restricted to a limited range. In relation with those dimensionless frequencies at the stall stagnation boundary, the surge frequency behaviors in more general situations away from the boundaries could be estimated, though very roughly.

A new multi-output LLC resonant converter is proposed for high efficiency and low cost plasma display panel (PDP) power module. In the proposed converter, zero-voltage (ZV) turn-on of the primary MOSFETs and zero-voltage (ZC) turn-on and turn-off of the secondary diodes are guaranteed in the overall input voltage and output load ranges. In addition, the primary MOSFETs and the secondary diodes have the low voltage stresses clamped to input and the output voltages, respectively. Therefore, the proposed converter shows the high efficiency due to the minimized switching and conduction losses. Moreover, by employing the transformer with multiple secondary windings, the proposed converter can have multiple outputs, which show the great crossregulation characteristics. Therefore, the proposed converter is suitable for high efficiency and low cost PDP power module.
An improved circulating current suppression control method is proposed in this paper. In the proposed controller, an outer loop of the average capacitor voltage control model is used to balance the sub-module capacitor voltage. Meanwhile, an individual voltage balance controller and an arm voltage balance controller are also used. The DC and harmonic components of the circulating current are separated using a low pass filter. Therefore, a multiple quasi-proportional-resonant (multi-quasi-PR) controller is introduced in the inner loop to eliminate the circulating harmonic current, which mainly contains second-order harmonic but also contains other high-order harmonics. In addition, the parameters of the multi-quasi-PR controller are designed in the discrete domain and an analysis of the stability characteristic is given in this paper. In addition, a simulation model of a three-phase MMC system is built in order to confirm the correctness and superiority of the proposed controller. Finally, experiment results are presented and compared. These results illustrate that the improved control method has good performance in suppressing circulating harmonic current and in balancing the capacitor voltage.
Transient and quasi-steady-state vertical vibrations of a multi-span beam steel bridge located on a single-track railway line are considered, induced by a superfast passenger train, moving at speed 120-360 km/h. Matrix dynamic equations of motion of a simplified model of the system are formulated partly in the implicit form. A recurrent-iterative algorithm for solving these equations is presented. Excessive vibrations of the system in the resonant zones are reduced effectively with passive dynamic absorbers, tuned to the first mode of a single bridge span. The dynamic analysis has been performed for a series of types of bridges with span lengths of 10 to 30 m, and with parameters closed to multi-span beam railway bridges erected in the second half of the $20^{th}$ century.
In this work, the dynamic properties of a high performance concrete containing glass powder (GP) was studied. The GP is a new cementitious material obtained by recycling waste glass presenting pozzolanic activity. This eco-friendly material was incorporated in concrete mixes by replacing 20 and 30% of cement. The mechanical properties of building materials highly affect the response of the structure under dynamic actions. First, the resonant vibration frequencies were measured on concrete plate with free boundary conditions after 14, 28 and 90 curing days by using an alternative vibration monitoring technique. This technique measures the average frequencies of several excitations done at different points of the plate. This approach takes into account the heterogeneity of a material like concrete. So, the results should be more precise and reliable. For measuring the bending and torsion resonant frequencies, as well as the damping ratio. The dynamic properties of material such as dynamic elastic modulus and dynamic shear modulus were determined by modelling the plate on the finite element software ANSYS. Also, the instantaneous aroused frequency method and ultrasound method were used to determine the dynamic elastic modulus for comparison purpose, with the results obtained from vibration monitoring technique.

In this study, we designed and made Ultrasonic motor-digital multi controller(USM-DMC) using FPGA chip, A54SX72A made in Actel Corporation. By the minute, USM-DMC can adjust the frequency, duty ratio, and phase difference parameters of USM by digital input to be each 11bit from PC. Therefore, when we use this controller, it is possible to apply typical three parameters individually as well as multi-parameters simultaneously to control the speed and the torque. What is more, the strongest point is that it can trace frequency based on optimized frequency as compared with the phase difference because we can input optimized resonant frequency while in motoring. And we test the speed of USM with the adjustment of multi-parameters, the phase difference-frequency. As the result of the test, in the case of the multi-parameters of the phase difference and frequency, the speed characteristic is more linear and stable, and wider in the range of control than the single-parameter of the phase difference or the frequency.
In the present study a two-mode, separately concurring resonant cavity model is proposed for theoretical interpretation of the 3 minute umbral oscillation. The proposed model has been investigated by calculating the transmission coefficients of the waves propagating through the umbral photosphere (photospheric weak-field cavity) and chromosphere (chromospheric strong-field cavity) into the corona, for 3 different umbral model atmospheres by Staude (1982), Beebe et al. (1982) and Avrett (1981). In computing the transmission coefficients we made use of multi-layer approximation by representing the umbra] atmosphere by a number of separate layers with (1) temperature varying linearly with depth and (2) temperature constant within each layer. The medium is assumed to be compressible, non-viscous, perfectly conducting under gravity. The computed resonant periods, transmission spectra, phase spectra, and kinetic energy density of the waves associated with the oscillations are presented in comparison with the observations and their model dependent characteristics are discussed.
