Improve Compression Efficiency of 360degree VR Video by Correcting Perspective in Cubemap Projection (Cubemap Projection 360도 VR 비디오에서 시점 보정을 통한 압축 효율 향상 방법)

  • Recently, many companies and consumers has shown a lot of interest toward VR(Virtual Reality), so many VR devices such as HMD(Head mounted Display) and 360 degree VR camera are released on the market. Current encoded 360 degree VR video uses the codec which originally made for the conventional 2D video. Therefore, the compression efficiency isn't optimized because the en/decoder does not consider the characteristics of the 360 degree VR video. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the compression efficiency by using the reference frame which compensates for the distortions caused by characteristics the 360 degree VR video. Applying the proposed method we were able to increase the compression efficiency by providing better prediction.

  • 포인트 클라우드는 객체 또는 장면을 재구성하기 위한 3D 데이터의 표현 방식 중 하나로써 가상 및 증강 현실을 포함한 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 포인트 클라우드 데이터는 품질에 따라 수많은 포인트로 이루어질 수 있으며, 이와 관련된 데이터의 양은 2차원 영상의 데이터보다 상당히 많다. 따라서 포인트 클라우드 데이터를 사용하여 다양한 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 포인트 클라우드의 특징을 고려한 효율적인 압축 기술이 요구되며, 이에 따라 국제 표준화 단체의 Moving Picture Experts Group은 포인트 클라우드 데이터의 효율적인 압축을 위한 V-PCC 표준을 제정하였다. V-PCC는 포인트 클라우드 데이터를 다수의 2차원 공간으로 투영하여 점유 맵, 기하 영상, 그리고 속성 영상을 생성하고 각 2차원 영상을 기존의 비디오 코덱을 활용하여 압축하는 방식이다. 기존의 코덱을 사용하여 압축함에 따라 활용성이 높지만, 3차원 데이터를 다수의 2차원 영상을 통하여 압축하기 때문에 압축의 효율성을 높이기 위한 많은 연구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 V-PCC의 부호화 효율을 높이기 위해 점유 맵의 투영 정보를 활용한 속성 영상의 효율적인 압축 방법을 소개하고 이를 위한 적응적 SAO 방법을 제안한다. 실험에서 제안 방법은 V-PCC의 속성 영상에 대해 약 3.2%의 부호화 효율을 보인다.

  • Digital watermarking is to embed imperceptible mark into image, video, audio, and text data to prevent the illegal copy of multimedia data. arbitrary modification, and also illegal sales of the copies without agreement of copyright ownership. In this paper, we study for the embedding and extraction of watermark key using wavelet in the luminance signal in order to implement the system to protect the copyright for image MPEG. First, the original image is analyzed into frequency domain by discrete wavelet transform. The RSA(Rivest, Shamir, Aldeman) public key of the coded target is RUN parameter of VLD(variable length coding). Because the high relationship among the adjacent RUN parameters effect the whole image, it prevents non-authorizer not to possess private key from behaving illegally. The Results show that the proposed method provides better moving picture and the distortion more key of insert than direct coded method on low-frequency domain based DCT.

  • This paper presents motion estimation method using region segmentation information Motion estimation which is very difficult to be implemented only by software because of intensive computation cost, is implemented by special-purpose hardware in real-time applications In this paper, we propose region based motion estimation algorithm which can reduce the computation cost by using region segmentation information and setting the variable search window compared with FSMA algorithm Secondly, another proposed algorithm is to segment semantic region like face for selective coding and transfer of semantic region using segmented region information This work alms to improving the subjective quality of skin color region or face region m the picture that has slow motion and IS mainly composed of one or two speakers of video conference and video telephony applications.

  • In this paper, bitstreams are composed of using H.263 for a moving picture coding in the band-limited and error-prone environment such as wireless environment. EREC sub-frames are implemented by applying the proposed EREC algorithm in order to be UEP for the real data parts of implemented bitstreams. Because those are able to do resynchronization with a block unit, propagation of the error can be minimized, and the position of the important bits such as INTRADC and MVD can be known. Class is separated using the position of these important bits, and variable puncturing tables are designed by the class informations and the code rates of turbo codes are differently designed in according to the class. Channel coding used the turbo codes, and an interleaver to be designed in the turbo codes does not eliminate redundancy bits of the important bits in applying variable code rates of EREC sub-frames unit and is always the same at the transmitter and the receiver although being variable frame size. As a result of simulation, UEP with the code rate similar to EEP is obtained a improved result in the side of bit error probability. And the result of applying it to image knows that the subjective and objective quality have been improved by the protection of important bits.

  • This paper proposes an effective compression method to utilize the 3D integral image with large amount of data obtained by a lens array in various applications. The conventional compression methods for still images exhibit low performance in terms of coding efficiency and visual quality, since they cannot remove the correlation between elemental images. In the moving picture compression methods, 1D scanning techniques that produce a sequence of elemental images are not enough to remove the directional correlation between elemental images. The proposed method effectively sequences the elemental images from an integral image by the 2D referencing technique and compresses them using the multi-frame referencing of H.264/AVC. The proposed 2D referencing technique selects the optimal reference image according to vertical, horizontal, and diagonal correlation between elemental images. Experimental results show that compression with the sequence of elemental images presents better coding efficiency than that of still image compression. Moreover, the proposed 2D referencing technique is superior to the 1D scanning methods in terms of the objective performance and visual quality.

  • H.264/AVC supports variable block motion compensation, multiple reference images, 1/4-pixel motion vector accuracy, and in-loop deblocking filter, compared with the existing compression technologies. While these coding technologies are major functions of compression rate improvement, they lead to high complexity at the same time. For the H.264 video coding technology to be actually applied on low-end / low-bit rates terminals more extensively, it is essential to improve tile coding speed. Currently the deblocking filter that can improve the moving picture's subjective image quality to a certain degree is used on low-end terminals to a limited extent due to computational complexity. In this paper, a performance improvement method of the deblocking filter that efficiently reduces the blocking artifacts occurred during the compression of low-bit rates digital motion pictures is suggested. In the method proposed in this paper, the image's spatial correlational characteristics are extracted by using the variable block information of motion compensation; the filtering is divided into 4 modes according to the characteristics, and adaptive filtering is executed in the divided regions. The proposed deblocking method reduces the blocking artifacts, prevents excessive blurring effects, and improves the performance about $30{\sim}40%$ compared with the existing method.

A Study on Decoding Characteristic Analysis of Non-iterative Fractal Image Compression (무반복 프랙탈 영상 압축의 복호 특성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • A problem of many fractal image compression algorithms providing good quality at low bit rate is that the decoding time rests on an iterative procedure whose complexity is imag-dependent. This paper proposes an iterative-free fractal image decoding algorithm to reduce the decoding time. In the proposed method, under the encoder previously with the same codebook image as an initial image to be used at the decoder, the fractal coefficients are obtained through calculating the similarity between the codebook image and an input image to be encoded. As the decoding time could be remarkably reduced. For verifying the validity and universality of proposed method, We evaluated and analyzed the performance of decoding time and image quality for a number of still images and a moving picture with different distributed characteristics.

A Novel Bit Allocation Method Using Two-phase Optimization Technique (2단계 최적화 방법을 이용한 비트할당 기법)

  • In this work, we propose a novel bit allocation method that is to minimize overall distortions subject ot the bit rate constraint. We partition the original bitallocation problem into 'macroblock level bit allocation' problems that can be solved by conventional Lagrangian mutiplier methods and a 'frame level bit allocation' problem. To tackle the frame level problem, 'two-phase optimization' algorithm is used with iter-frame dependency model. While the existing approaches are almost impossible to find the macroblock-unit result for the moving picture coding system due to high computational complexity, the proposed algorithm can drastically reduce the computational loads by the problem partitioning and can obtain the result close to the optimal solution. Because the optimally allocated results can be used as a benchmark for bit allocation methods, the upper performance limit, or a basis for approximation method development, we expect that the proposed algorithm can be very useful for the bit allocation related works.

  • 3차원 Polygonal Mesh는 그래픽스, 에니메이션, 게임에서 3차원 객체에 대한 표현에 사용되고, 이러한 3차원 모델에 대한 IndexedFaceSet 노드에 3차원 정전정보와 연결정보를 압축하는데 MPEG-4 3DMC를 사용한다. 이러한 연결정보는 다각형의 Mesh 형태로 3차원 모델을 구성하는 정보를 갖는데, 이는 Tepological Surgery 라고 하는 방법을 통해서 2차원의 스트립 단위의 데이터로 분해된다. 이러한 3D 데이터는 방송환경과 같은 재전송이 불가능한 네트워크의 환경에서 유무선 네트워크 상에서 채널문제로 인해서 데이터의 손실이 있게 되면, 복호화 된 데이터는 데이터의 손상이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 현상은 3D 모델의 좌표의 연결정보에 손상을 주게 되고, 여기서 복호화 된 데이터는 스트립 단위로 손상이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 현상은 3차원 모델의 좌표의 연결정보에 손상을 주게 된다. 본 논문은 이러한 3차원 정보의 손상을 효과적으로 복원하기 위한 연구에 관한 것이며, Mesh의 면을 이루는 각 꼭지점의 좌표들의 연결 정보가 손실되지 않는 스트립에서는 약간의 차이는 있을 수 있으나, 완벽한 복원을 하였고, 두 개 이상의 스트립이 붙어서 손상된 경우나, 좌표의 연결 정보가 없는 경우에는 조건에 따라 현저히 좋은 격과를 얻을 수 있었다.
