A numerical study on ship-ship interaction in shallow and restricted waterway

  • In the present study, a numerical prediction method on the hydrodynamic interaction force and moment between two ships in shallow and restricted waterway is presented. Especially, the present study proposes a methodology to overcome the limitation of the two dimensional perturbation method which is related to the moored-passing ship interaction. The validation study was performed and compared with the experiment, firstly. Afterward, in order to propose a methodology in terms with the moored-passing ship interaction, further studies were performed for the moored-passing ship case with a Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) calculation which is using OpenFOAM with Arbitrary Coupled Mesh Interface (ACMI) technique and compared with the experiment result. Finally, the present study proposes a guide to apply the two dimensional perturbation method to the moored-passing ship interaction. In addition, it presents a possibility that the RANS calculation with ACMI can applied to the ship-ship interaction without using a overset moving grid technique.

  • A Meshfree is a method used to establish algebraic equations of system for the whole problem domain without the use of a predefined mesh for the domain discretization. A point interpolation method is based on combining radial and polynomial basis functions. Involvement of radial basis functions overcomes possible singularity. Furthermore, the interpolation function passes through all scattered points in an influence domain and thus shape functions are of delta function property. This makes the implementation of essential boundary conditions much easier than the meshfree methods based on the moving least-squares approximation. This study aims to investigate a stress analysis of structural element between a meshfree method and the finite element method. Examples on cantilever type plate and stress concentration problems show that the accuracy and convergence rate of the meshfree methods are high.

  • In the present study, the effects of the design factors and operating conditions on flow characteristics of a vane pump for the automotive power steering system has been analyzed numerically. An unsteady moving mesh technique with cell expansion/contraction method is used to simulate the rotation of vanes with respect to stationary inlet and outlet. As a result, the flow characteristics of the flow rate and pressure rise across the vane pump were obtained. The numerical analyses for the various design factors such as number of vanes and thickness between the rotor and camring and for various operating conditions such as rotational speed and pressure difference between inlet and outlet were extensively performed. And the results were discussed in the paper.

  • This paper describes the direct thrust control of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) with the secondary aluminium sheet. The time stepped finite element method and moving mesh technique are used for simulating dynamic characteristics of the PMLSM. The secondary back-iron conductivity as well as the initial flux linkage due to permanent magnet are considered in the simulation.

  • The development of a parallelized aerodynamic simulation process involving moving bodies is presented. The implementation of this process is demonstrated using a fully systemized Chimera methodology for steady and unsteady problems. This methodology consist of a Chimera hole-cutting, a new cut-paste algorithm for optimal mesh. interface generation and a two-step search method for donor cell identification. It is fully automated and requires minimal user input. All procedures of the Chimera technique are parallelized on the Cray T3E using the MPI library. Two and three-dimensional examples are chosen to demonstate the effectiveness and parallel performance of this procedure.

EDISON CFD를 이용한 100 kW 수평축 조류발전 터빈 주위 유동 해석

  • 본 연구는 조류발전 터빈의 블레이드 형상 최적화 해석 시스템 개발에 대한 사전연구의 일환으로 EDISON CFD의 프로펠러 단독성능 S/W와 SNUFOAM ShipMesh Advanced 자동격자생성기를 이용하여 조류발전 터빈 주위 유동장에 대한 수치해석을 수행하였다. TSR 조건 변화에 따라 수치해석을 수행하고 이에 대한 power, total coefficient를 동일한 조건에서 수행된 실험결과와 비교 검증하여 해석자의 신뢰도를 확인하였다. 또한, 블레이드 전체를 모델링한 full body 해석과 하나의 블레이드만을 모델링한 single body 해석 결과를 비교하여 경제적이면서 정도 높은 터빈 성능해석 프로세스를 제안하였다. 조류발전 터빈의 TSR 조건 변화에 따라 낮은 TSR 조건에서는 국부적 와동발생에 의해 $C_P$가 감소하는 것을 확인하였고 설계 TSR에서 가장 좋은 효율을 보임을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 suction side의 압력 분포, 팁 와동의 강도 등 성능개선을 위한 주요한 설계변수를 식별하였다.

  • This study investigates the dynamic characteristics of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM), with segmental rotor structure, using finite element method in which the moving mesh technique is considered. The focus of this paper is the efficiency of on-line parameter identification system for position sensorless control of a SynRM under saturation and iron loss. Comparisons are given with angle of the observer and those of proposed FEM & Preisach model of synchronous reluctance motor, respectively. The position sensorless control using identified motor parameters is realized, and the effective of the on-line parameter identification system is verified by experimental results.

  • In this paper, dynamic characteristics analysis of linear induction motor with joints in the secondary conductor is discussed. The time stepped finite element method and moving mesh technique are used for simulation. ${\nabla}{\phi}$ of jointed secondary conductor is defined for simulation, respectively. Simulation results have shown that joints in the secondary conductor affect thrust ripple and attractive force ripple.

  • WMN is considered as a core methodology to provide mobile wireless network service with multi-hop routing feature. It has a merit that can be easily deployed by utilization of protocols for MANET. However, it has differences in supporting multiple networks and channels, network architecture, and so on. Especially, in case of routing protocols, to apply them intactly to WMN can be a cause of low performance because of do not moving mesh routers. AODV seems like suitable for WMN among the various routing protocols for MANET. However, it has a defect in scalability. In this paper, an enhanced AODV routing method for WMN was proposed. The proposed method was designed to be suitable to the architecture of WMN by use of layering and localizing the broadcasting domain.

Object Analysis on Outdoor Environment Using Multiple Features for Autonomous Navigation Robot (자율주행 로봇을 위한 다중 특징을 이용하여 외부환경에서 물체 분석)

  • This paper describes a method to identify objects for autonomous navigation of an outdoor mobile robot. To identify objects, the robot recognizes the object from an image taken by moving robot on outdoor environment. As a beginning, this paper presents the candidates for a segment of region to building of artificial object, sky and trees of natural objects. Then we define their characteristics individually. In the process, we segment the regions of the objects included by preprocessing using multiple features. Multiple features are HSI, line segments, context information, hue co-occurrence matrix, principal components and vanishing point. An analysis of building identifies the geometrical properties of building facet such as wall region, windows and entrance. The building as intersection in vertical and horizontal line segment of vanishing point extracts the mesh. The wall region of building detect by merging the mesh of the neighbor parallelograms that have similar colors. The property estimates the number of story and rooms in the same floors by merging skewed parallelograms of the same color. We accomplish the result of image segmentation using multiple features and the geometrical properties analysis of object through experiments.
