  • Video object segmentation is an important component for object-based video coding scheme such as MPEG-4. In this paper, a robust algorithm for segmentation of moving objects in video sequences and VOP(Video Object Planes) extraction is presented. The points of this paper are detection, of an accurate object boundary by associating moving object edge with spatial object edge and generation of VOP. The algorithm begins with the difference between two successive frames. And after extracting difference image, the accurate moving object edge is produced by using the Canny algorithm and morphological operation. To enhance extracting performance, we app]y the morphological operation to extract more accurate VOP. To be specific, we apply morphological erosion operation to detect only accurate object edges. And moving object edges between two images are generated by adjusting the size of the edges. This paper presents a robust algorithm implementation for fast moving object detection by extracting accurate object boundaries in video sequences.

  • We propose a triangulation method based on stereo vision angles. We setup stereo vision systems which extract the depth information to a moving object by detecting a moving object using difference image method and obtaining the depth information by the triangulation method based on stereo vision angles. The feature point of a moving object is used the geometrical center of the moving object, and the proposed vision system has the accuracy of 0.2mm in the range of 400mm.

  • In this paper, we propose a consecutive-frame super-resolution method to tackle a moving object problem. The super-resolution is a method restoring a high resolution image from a low resolution image. The super-resolution is classified into two types, briefly, single-frame super-resolution and consecutive-frame super-resolution. Typically, the consecutive-frame super-resolution recovers a better than the single-frame super-resolution, because it use more information from consecutive frames. However, the consecutive-frame super-resolution failed to recover the moving object. Therefore, we proposed an improved method via moving object detection. Experimental results showed that the proposed method restored both the moving object and the background properly.

  • Edges are a robust feature for object detection. In this paper, we present an edge-based background modeling method for the detection of moving objects. The edges in the image frames were mapped using robust Canny edge detector. Two edge maps were created and combined to calculate the ultimate moving-edge map. By selecting all the edge pixels of the current frame above the defined threshold of the ultimate moving edges, a temporary background-edge map was created. If the frequencies of the temporary background edge pixels for several frames were above the threshold, then those edge pixels were treated as background edge pixels. We conducted a performance comparison with previous works. The existing edge-based moving-object detection algorithms pose some difficulty due to the changes in background motion, object shape, illumination variation, and noises. The result of the performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm can detect moving objects efficiently in real-world scenarios.

  • Recently, it has become an important problem to extract semantic objects from videos, which are useful for improving the performance of video compression and video retrieval. In this thesis, an automatic extraction method of moving objects of interest in video is suggested. We define that an moving object of interest should be relatively large in a frame image and should occur frequently in a scene. The moving object of interest should have different motion from camera motion. Moving object of interest are determined through spatial continuity by the AMOS method and moving histogram. Through experiments with diverse scenes, we found that the proposed method extracted almost all of the objects of interest selected by the user but its precision was 69% because of over-extraction.

  • Moving object segmentation is a fundamental function for content-based application. Moving object edges are produced by matching the detected moving edges with the current frame edges. But we can often experience the object edge disconnectedness due to coincidence of similarity between the object and background colors or the decrease of movement of moving object. The edge disconnectedness is a serious problem because it degrades the object visual quality so conspicuously That it sometimes makes it inadequate to perform content-based coding. We have solved this problem by developing a robust and comprehensive edge linking algorithm. And we also developed an automatic moving object segmentation algorithm. These algorithms can produce the completely linked moving object edge boundary and the accurate moving object segmentation. These algorithms can process CIF 30 frames/sec in a PC. These algorithms can be used for the MPEG-4 content-based coding.

  • Moving object management systems manage spatiotemporal data, which change their location over tine such as people, animals, and cars. These moving object management systems can be applied to vehicle location tracking, digital battlefield, location-based service, and so on. The existing moving object management systems only manage past or future location of the moving objects separately. Therefore, they cannot suggest estimation method of uncertain past or future location of the moving objects. In this paper, we propose a moving object management system, which not only manages historical data of the moving objects, but also predicts past and future location of the moving objects using historical data stored in database. We define the moving objects for vehicle location tracking and propose a moving object database structure. Finally, we suggest an execution model of the proposed system and apply the execution model to a virtual scenario for vehicle tracking.

  • Extraction and tracking objects are fundamental and important steps of the digital image processing and computer vision. Many algorithms about extracting and tracking objects have been developed. In this research, a method is suggested for tracking a moving object using a pair of CCD cameras and calculating the coordinate of the moving object. A 1/100 miniature of soccer field was made to apply the developed algorithms. After candidates were selected from the acquired images using the RGB value of a moving object (soccer ball), the object was extracted using its size (MBR size) among the candidates. And then, image coordinates of a moving object are obtained. The real-time position of a moving object is tracked in the boundary of the expected motion, which is determined by centering the moving object. The 3D position of a moving object can be obtained by conducting the relative orientation, absolute orientation, and space intersection of a pair of the CCD camera image.

  • Moving object tracking is very important in video surveillance system. This paper presents a method for tracking moving objects in an outdoor environment. To moving object tracking, first, after extract object that move yielding weight subtraction image and then use close operator to reduce the noise. And we track a object that move detected by matching the extracted multi-feature information. The proposed tracking technique can track moving object by multi-feature matching method so that exactly tracking the objects which are suddenly move or stop. The proposed tracking technique can be efficiently tracking the moving objects, because of combined with spatial position, shape and intensity informations.

  • Tracking of the moving object, which is realized by the computer vision, is used for military and industrial fields. It is the application technique with imply complicated processing for understanding the input images. But, in these days, the most moving object tracking algorithms have many difficult problems. A typical problem is the increase of calculation time depending on target number. For this reason, there are many studies to solve real time processing problems and errors for background environmental change. In this paper, we used optical flow which is one of moving object tracking algorithms. It represents vector of the moving object. Optical flow estimation based on the regularization method depends on iteration method but it is very sensitive the noise. We proposed a new method using the Combinatorial Hough Transform (CHT) and Voting Accumulation in order to find optimal constraint lines. Also, we used the logical operation in order to release the operation time. The proposed method can easily and accurately extract the optical flow of moving object area and the moving information. We have simulated the proposed method using the test images. This images are included the noise. Experimental results show that the proposed method get better flow and estimate accurately the moving information.
