Using Mobile Phones in EFL Classes

  • This article is to investigate the possibility that project-based classes introducing mobile phones can replace the monotony of traditional classes led by teachers as well as they can encourage students to take active part in the classes to some extent. The students in groups choose a genre for their own video projects (e.g., movie, drama, news, documentary, and commercial) and produce the video contents using a mobile phone for presentation made at the end of a semester. In the sense that the students are allowed to do video-based mobile phone projects, they can work independently outside of class, where time and space are more flexible and students are free from the anxiety of speaking or acting in front of an audience. A mobile phone project consists of around five stages done both in and outside of the classroom. All of these stages can be graded independently, including genre selection, drafting of scripts, peer review and revision, rehearsals, and presentation of the video. Feedback is given to students. After the presentation, students filled out a survey questionnaire sheet devised to analyze students' responses toward preferences and level of difficulty of the project activity. Finally, proposals are made for introduction of a better mobile phone-based project classes.

UCC Contents Production System Using Direct Show (Direct Show 기반 UCC 컨텐츠 제작 시스템)

  • Recently, it has developed that UCC (User Created Contents) is made and created by the users. The mainly issue of production of contents parts is how can make easier and paly the moving picture more useful. In this paper, for this, we implemented UCC production system using Direct Show which is included Direct X. Direct Show is a moving picture editing technique and has been supported in Microsoft with COM component. Our system has features that the various effects can be easily inserted into moving Picture by users. Moreover, our system can efficiently apply the effects at playing the moving picture differently from the frame processing method. We confirmed these merits through experiments. The proposed system can be used for commercial purposes which high efficiency is required such as advertisement movie.

  • As DMB, 3D game, Internet and movie is serviced for the recent mobile devices, high resolution display devices beyond VGA become used. Implementation of real-time moving pictures of 30렌 by software programming is difficult because the performance of mobile processors is not so high. The full frame moving picture can be supported by using specific hardware. In this paper, an OLED controller that is consists of flash memory controller and OLED interface is proposed for real-time moving picture on mobile displays. The proposed OLED controller is implemented in FPGA and the performance is evaluated.

Dynamic Recommender on User Taste Tendency Model : Focusing on Movie Recommender System (사용자 경향에 기반한 동적 추천 기법 : 영화 추천 시스템을 중심으로)

  • Many recommender systems are based on Content-based Filtering and Social Filtering Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, and they complement each other rather than compete. So incorporating of both methods can make the better system and combination technique controls the quality of the entire recommender system. In this paper, we presented each user has his own tendency to decide which is the better recommendation for himself among the various recommendation results, and suggested the Personalized combination technique. To represent user tendency, we defined and used loyalty, diversity and pioneerity and showed by experiments that our combination technique is useful. This combination technique improved the average coverage 23% and for the ceiling 40%.

  • 정보의 폭발적인 증가로 인해 사용자들은 오히려 원하는 정보를 빠른 시간에 얻는 것이 힘들어졌다. 따라서 이 문제를 해결하기 위한 다양한 방식의 새로운 서비스들이 제공되고 있다. 추천 시스템 중에서 영화를 추천해주는 방법에는 사용되는 알고리즘에는 협업필터링 방법이 가장 성공한 알고리즘으로 사용되고 있다. 협업 필터링 방법은 사용자가 자발적으로 입력한 선호도 평가치를 바탕으로 추천 하고자 하는 사용자와 취향이 비슷하다고 판단되는 사람들 즉, 최근접 이웃을 구하고 최근접 이웃의 선호도 평가치를 바탕으로 사용자에게 영화를 추천을 해주는 기법이다. 그러나 협업 필터링에는 몇 가지 대표적인 문제점이 있으며 희박성 및 확장성, 투명성이 있다. 본 논문에서는 영화 추천 시스템에서의 협업필터링의 희박성 문제를 보완하고자 개개인의 성향을 반영하여 효율이 좋은 추천 방법을 제안하고 하둡에서 성능평가를 하였다.

  • 빅데이터 분석을 위해 많이 사용하고 있는 기계학습 알고리즘들 중 딥러닝 알고리즘이 많이 활용되고 있으며 분류와 예측에 높은 정확도를 나타내고 있다. 딥러닝 알고리즘의 적용에 따른 많은 장단점들이 있지만, 단점은 분석에 사용되는 특징들이 너무 많다는 것과 분석 모델을 만드는데 사용되는 알고리즘도 여러 가지를 적용하다 보니 분석 시간이 오래 걸린다는 것이다. 이런 단점들은 업무를 파악하면 특징을 최소화할 수 있고 필요로 하는 정보만 선별해서 대표적인 딥러닝 알고리즘 하나에 분석을 하게 되면 분석 시간을 단축시킬 수 있다. 이 실험은 [1], [2]에서 연구한 영화 관객수 예측 모델을 4개의 특징으로 최소화하고 선별된 데이터를 인공신경망 알고리즘 하나로 예측 모델을 생성하였을 때 유의미한 정보를 도출해 낼 수 있는지를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 실험결과는 최종 관객수를 1명 단위까지 정확하게 예측하지는 못했지만 비슷한 수준의 관객수 정보를 예측하였다. 학문적인 접근으로 보았을 때 예측 정확도가 높지 않으면 사용이 불가능한 모델이라고 판단할 수 있지만, 기업 입장으로 접근해 보았을 때 예측 정보가 [1]. [2] 연구 결과에 비해 부족한 수준은 아니다. 총 소요된 시간은 기획 3일, 데이터 수집 및 모델 개발 5일, 분석 시간 10분으로 개발 시간 단축, 업무 효율성 향상, 비용 절감을 기대할 수 있다.

  • This paper is to implement a RTSP based streaming server in order to provide streaming service. When a client requests a stream from a server, transmission speed is measured on a regular basis through communications between the client and the server. Server will send different encoded movie clip streams based on measured transmission speeds. Different streams are sent to a server depending on the transmission speed and their locations are saved when streams are sent. Even though different streams are sent, the streams will be sent without any interruptions because they are sent from their original locations.

  • As the computing and network technique move rm and spread widly, the usage of multimedia application becomes in general while the usage of text based application becomes low. Especially the application which treats the streaming media such as video or movie, one of multimedia data, holds a majority in the usage of computing. MPEG, one of the typical compression standard of streaming media, provides very high compression ratio so that general users could be close to the streaming media with easy usage. However, the encoding of MPEG requires lots of computing power and time. In the paper, we design and implement a parallel MPEG encoder with MPI in cluster envrionment to reduce the encoding time of MPEG.

Multi-channel Long Short-Term Memory with Domain Knowledge for Context Awareness and User Intention

  • In context awareness and user intention tasks, dataset construction is expensive because specific domain data are required. Although pretraining with a large corpus can effectively resolve the issue of lack of data, it ignores domain knowledge. Herein, we concentrate on data domain knowledge while addressing data scarcity and accordingly propose a multi-channel long short-term memory (LSTM). Because multi-channel LSTM integrates pretrained vectors such as task and general knowledge, it effectively prevents catastrophic forgetting between vectors of task and general knowledge to represent the context as a set of features. To evaluate the proposed model with reference to the baseline model, which is a single-channel LSTM, we performed two tasks: voice phishing with context awareness and movie review sentiment classification. The results verified that multi-channel LSTM outperforms single-channel LSTM in both tasks. We further experimented on different multi-channel LSTMs depending on the domain and data size of general knowledge in the model and confirmed that the effect of multi-channel LSTM integrating the two types of knowledge from downstream task data and raw data to overcome the lack of data.

  • The reality is that forms and roles of media is changing as our society goes forward fast. There aren't any other noticeable media forms than one man media UCC(User Created Contents). Not only almost all of the house hold a camera at least one, but people can take a picture by using their mobile phone. Furthermore, people can produce a movie through taken pictures in this time. That is the beginning of UCC. It is possible to make use of private life, company, society, advertisement, shopping mall, and so on.
