As the micro-technologies in the high precision manufacturing processes are developed, the demand for micro actuating device is increasing. But, it is difficult to achieve high resolution and wide operating range simultaneously with the conventional actuating systems which are contacting and type of dual servo system. So, the contact-free surface actuators whose movers are suspended or levitated were proposed. These systems can be applied to high precision stages and alignment apparatuses. The suspended mover can be assumed to be rigid body, but the mover is a structure in this study, therefore the vibration caused during the operating process has a serious adverse effect on the performance and it is very important to identify the vibrational characteristics. In this paper, a contact-free surface actuator is modeled in finite element method and updated by using the experimental modal data. Finally, the static and dynamic characteristics of the finite element model are predicted and then discussed.

Although the initial cost of permanent-magnet linear synchronous motors is high owing to the installation of armatures over the full length of the transportation lines, linear motors are useful for transportation systems because of their high speed, acceleration, and deceleration. For these reasons, research into reducing the cost of linear motors is necessary, and a stationary distributed-armature system has been suggested for installing armatures in sections where acceleration and deceleration of the mover are required. However, each armature has ends that significantly increase the cogging force, resulting in the increase in the thrust ripple of the mover. Therefore, in order to improve the thrust ripple of the system, the present study aims to provide auxiliary teeth on both ends of the armature to achieve an optimal design through an analysis of the contribution ratio with respect to factors regarding the design of the experiment and the objective function.

The position of LPM's mover can be estimated by the equivalent inductance variation with the mover's displacement. Hence, in this paper, we obtained the position detection signal by the calculation of equivalent inductance variation using the winding of linear pulse motor. And the various parameters for calculation of equivalent inductance variation were obtained by the design specification and finite element analysis of linear pulse motor. With this position signal, it is possible to calculate the driving numbers of steps, to confirm the state of step out and to determine the optimal switching angle, etc.
The stationary discontinuous armatures that are used in permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PM-LSMs) have been proposed as a driving source for transportation systems. However, the stationary discontinuous armature PM-LSM contains the outlet edges which always exist as a result of the discontinuous arrangement of the armature. For this reason, the high alteration of the outlet edge cogging force produced between the armature's core and the mover's permanent magnet when a mover passes the boundary between the armature's installation part and non-installation part has been indicated as a problem. Therefore, we have examined the outlet edge cogging force by installing the auxiliary teeth at the armature's outlet edge in order to minimize the outlet edge cogging force generated when the armature is arranged discontinuously. Moreover, we obtained the calculation by analyzing the shape of the auxiliary teeth in which the outlet edge cogging force is minimized the most.
In this paper, the steady-state analysis of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) such as a wind turbine is presented. The steady-state torque-speed characteristics of the VSPM are considered with the three-phase SEIG equivalent circuit for evaluating the operating performances due to the inductive load variations. Furthermore, a PI closed-loop feedback voltage regulation scheme based on the static VAR compensator (SVC) for the three-phase SEIG driven by the VSPM is designed and considered for the wind power generation conditioner. The simulation and experimental results prove the practical effectiveness of the additional SVC with the PI controller-based feedback loop in terms of fast response and high performances.

This paper deals with two structures of tubular LOA. One is the moving-coil type LOA and the other is moving-magnet type LOA. We analyze and compare the characteristics of tubular LOA according to mover type. The results of predicitions from the analysis are compared with corresponding finite element analysis.

In this paper, the steady-state operating performance analysis for the three-phase squirrel cage rotor self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) in addition to a constant-speed prime mover (CSPM) is presented on the basis of an effective algorithm based on its frequency-domain equivalent circuit. The operating characteristics of the three-phase SEIG coupled by a VSPM and/or a CSPM are evaluated on line processing under the condition of the electrical passive load parameters variations with simple and efficient computation processing procedure in unregulated voltage control loop scheme. A three-phase SEIG prototype setup with a VSPM as well as a CSPM is implemented for the small-scale clean renewable and alternative energy utilizations. The experimental operating characteristic results are illustrated and give good agreements with the simulation ones.

This paper presents methods to improve performance of the power supply system in a NASA deep space explorer. In the Stirling engine driven reciprocating Brushless DC (BLDC) generator, the accurate position information of the prime mover is important to diagnose the performance of the engine and prevent distortion of the output power. Since sensors to detect the position are fragile and unreliable, and conventional sensorless techniques have drawbacks in the low speed region, a novel sensorless position detection technique for the prime mover has been proposed and verified. Another major issue of the generator for the spacecraft is power density maximization. The mass of the power system is important to the mass of the satellite. Therefore, the components of the spacecraft should be lightweight. Conventional rectification methods cannot achieve the maximum power possible due to non-optimal current waveforms. The optimal current waveform for maximizing power density and minimizing machine size and weight in a nonsinusoidal power supply system has been derived, incorporated in a control system, and verified by simulation work.
The detent force of the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) is caused by the interaction between the permanent magnet and the iron core of the mover without input current. It is a function of the mover position relative to the stator. This paper proposes a control based method to reduce the detent force for the PMLSM. This detent force that can be predicted by finite element method (FEM) is compensated by injecting the instantaneous current using the field oriented control (FOC) method. Both the simulated and experimental results are reported to validate the effectiveness of this proposed method.
On this study is PM excited transverse flux linear motor for compressor on an air condenser. The present day, it is general use for linear motor on compressor, so this paper conducted efficiency to compare with varing mover and stator's shape.
