  • In this paper, we offer a new technique to discover frequent spatiotemporal patterns from a moving object database. Though the search space for spatiotemporal knowledge is extremely challenging, imposing spatial and timing constraints on moving sequences makes the computation feasible. The proposed technique includes two algorithms, AllMOP and MaxMOP, to find all frequent patterns and maximal patterns, respectively. In addition, to support the service provider in sending information to a user in a push-driven manner, we propose a rule-based location prediction technique to predict the future location of the user. The idea is to employ the algorithm AllMOP to discover the frequent movement patterns in the user's historical movements, from which frequent movement rules are generated. These rules are then used to estimate the future location of the user. The performance is assessed with respect to precision and recall. The proposed techniques could be quite efficiently applied in a location-based service (LBS) system in which diverse types of data are integrated to support a variety of LBSs.

  • The purpose of this study were to compare the condylar path and the anterior angle of glenoid fossae, and analyze the condylar path, and classify the patterns of condylar path. Thirty-three male and female dental students with normal occlusion and masticatory system ranging in age from 24 to 27, without present symptoms and any history of TM joint disturbance, were selected for this study. Then, sixty-six TM joint were examed. Transcranial radiographs of TM joint and Cephalometric radiographs under mandibular protrusive movement were obtained. They were taken at six positions on protrusive movement. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The sequence of the frequeny of condylar movement patterns were concave curve, "S"shape curve, convex curve, and reverse "S"shape. 2. The horizontal distance of the greatest changed position of condylar angle averaged 2.6mm. 3. The condylar path angle averaged 36.91 degree. 4. The angle of the anterior slope of glenoid fossae averaged 37.28 degree. 5. The distance fo condylar movement averaged 5.98mm and the distance of condylar horizontal movement averaged 4.71mm. 6. The slope of articular eminence was correlated to the condyalr path and three were no significant differences between right and left side of the anterior slope of articular eminence, and the condyalr path angle.

  • Purpose: Although previous studies have performed on-farm evaluations for the control of airborne diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and influenza, disease control during the process of livestock and manure transportation has not been investigated thoroughly. The objective of this study is to predict common patterns of livestock-vehicle movement. Methods: Global positioning system (GPS) data collected during 2012 and 2013 from livestock vehicles on Jeju Island, South Korea, were analyzed. The GPS data included the coordinates of moving vehicles according to the time and date as well as the locations of livestock farms and manure-keeping sites. Data from 2012 were added to Esri software ArcGIS 10.1 and two approaches were adopted for predicting common vehicle-movement patterns, i.e., point-density and Euclidean-distance tools. To compare the predicted patterns with actual patterns for 2013, the same analysis was performed on the actual data. Results: When the manure-keeping sites and livestock farms were the same in both years, the common patterns of 2012 and 2013 were similar; however, differences arose in the patterns when these sites were changed. By using the point-density tool and Euclidean-distance tool, the average similarity between the predicted and actual common patterns for the three vehicles was 80% and 72%, respectively. Conclusions: From this analysis, we can determine common patterns of livestock vehicles using previous year's data. In the future, to obtain more accurate results and to devise a model for predicting patterns of vehicle movement, more dependent and independent variables will be considered.

  • The present study investigated how the kinematics of the /a/-to-/i/ tongue movement in Korean would be influenced by prosodic boundary. The /a/-to-/i/ sequence was used as 'transboundary' test materials which occurred across a prosodic boundary as in /ilnjəʃ$^h$a/ # / minsakwae/ ('일년차#민사과에' 'the first year worker' # 'dept. of civil affairs'). It also tested whether the V-to-V tongue movement would be further influenced by its syllable structure with /m/ which was placed either in the coda condition (/am#i/) or in the onset condition (/a#mi). Results of an EMA (Electromagnetic Articulagraphy) study showed that kinematical parameters such as the movement distance (displacement), the movement duration, and the movement velocity (speed) all varied as a function of the boundary strength, showing an articulatory strengthening pattern of a "larger, longer and faster" movement. Interestingly, however, the larger, longer and faster pattern associated with boundary marking in Korean has often been observed with stress (prominence) marking in English. It was proposed that language-specific prosodic systems induce different ways in which phonetics and prosody interact: Korean, as a language without lexical stress and pitch accent, has more degree of freedom to express prosodic strengthening, while languages such as English have constraints, so that some strengthening patterns are reserved for lexical stress. The V-to-V tongue movement was also found to be influenced by the intervening consonant /m/'s syllable affiliation, showing a more preboundary lengthening of the tongue movement when /m/ was part of the preboundary syllable (/am#i/). The results, together, show that the fine-grained phonetic details do not simply arise as low-level physical phenomena, but reflect higher-level linguistic structures, such as syllable and prosodic structures. It was also discussed how the boundary-induced kinematic patterns could be accounted for in terms of the task dynamic model and the theory of the prosodic gesture ($\pi$-gesture).

  • Purpose: This study aimed (1) to identify asymmetry observed in electromyography (EMG) activity patterns of lower limb muscles between affected and unaffected sides of stroke patients during sit to stand (STS) movement and (2) to identify the muscles of the paretic lower limb that affected STS performance in stroke patients. Methods: This study consisted of 27 patients (15 males and 12 females) with poststroke hemiparesis. The activation of the rectus femoris (RF), tibialis anterior (TA), and gastrocnemius (GCM) of the affected side and unaffected side during STS movement were recorded using surface EMG. In addition, EMG lower limb muscle activation patterns were measured in the all section, pre-thigh off (pre-TO), and post-thigh off (post-TO) section. All measurements were obtained during five repetitions of the STS (FTSTS) movement. An independent t-test was performed to compare the affected side and unaffected side of the lower limb during the STS movement. A stepwise linear regression analysis was conducted to identify the muscles that affected STS performance. Results: Activation of both the RF and TA significantly affected the lower limb during the STS movement (p<0.05). Two muscles showed a difference on the post-TO section. The results of the stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that the RF and TA muscles of the affected lower limb were affected in FTSTS. Conclusion: These results provide a basis for reinforcement training, focusing on the RF and TA muscles of the affected side of stroke patients to improve asymmetric movement and performance in STS movement.

  • In this research, we designed representative motion patterns that possibly occurred in sleep situation and evaluated the feasibility of the smartphone based movement recording technique. For this, we designed 7 motions such as posture change, head movement, arm movement (vertical, horizontal), leg movement and hand movement (flipping, folding). Movement was recorded by using the smartphone and the actimetry device simultaneously for comparing the feasibility of smartphone based recording. As a result of experiment, we found that the smartphone based movement recording well reflects the body movement, however, it shows the limitation in recording the small local movement such as hand motion compared with the reference actimetry device, Actiwatch.

  • Purpose: This study examined changes in gait speed and stride length after an intervention involving simultaneous scapular and pelvic patterns of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in a hemiplegic patient. Methods: A 58-year-old woman with left hemiplegia who had complained of slowness of gait speed and weakness of leg strength took part in an intervention involving scapular postdepression patterns on the affected side and pelvic postdepression patterns on the nonaffected side. The intervention was performed with the patient lying on her left side, in a half kneeling position, and in a standing posture. Rhythmic initiation was used for teaching the movements to the patient and improvement of kinesthesia, and a combination of isotonic was employed for increasing strength and irradiation of the scapula and pelvic movement. The intervention took place for 30 min. It was implemented twice a day, 5 days a week, for 3 weeks. After three repetitions, the average time taken to complete the 10-m walk test (10 MWT), in addition to stride length, was measured to determine gait speed. Results: After the 3-week program, the patient's performance in the 10 MWT improved from 21.7sec to 17.1sec, and her stride length improved from 31.4cm to 38.7cm. Conclusion: The results showed that trunk movement exercise, especially coordinative movements of the scapula and pelvis can improve gait speed and stride length by increasing trunk stability and mobility. A combination of pelvic and scapular patterns can facilitate trunk rotation, thereby improving gait speed and stride length.
