Movable scaffolding has been used to work in high places. The scaffolding is economical and convenient to move to other places, but it has the risk of falling down. This paper proposes a fixed bracing system to prevent the falling down of a movable scaffolding, and evaluates its usability by making a small-sized model. Further studies of structural stability, safety, and economical efficiency is necessary to use the system practically.
The aim of this study was to analysis the Heating/cooling performance of movable insulation system built in apartments. The process of this study is as follows: 1) Test-cells of movable insulation are designed through the investigation of previous paper and work. The type of the movable insulation used in test-cell is low emissivity(5%) insulation, measured for heating season and the thermal effects are analyzed. 2) The simulation program(Design Builder) was used in energy performance analysis. the reference model of simulation was made up to analysis energy performance on movable insulation system. 3) Selected reference model(Floors:15, Area of Unit:115.5$m^2$) for heating/cooling energy analysis, Energy performance simulation with various variants, such as slate angle of movable insulation(5$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 50$^{\circ}$) and position of movable insulation. Consequently, When movable insulation system is equipped with balcony window of Apartment, Annual heating energy of reference model was cut down at the average of 5.4kWh/$m^2$ or 4.6% of heating/cooling energy.
At the beginning the 21st century, we are interested in renewable energy especially photovoltaic. So, we have been installed PV at the building roofs so that we call it building integrated photovoltaic. But strictly speaking, installing the PV on the roof is not building integrated. There are few BIPV designs especially for balcony. In the apartment building, roof is good installing place for PV, but its area was limited. Now a day, built apartment building's heights are more and more increased so that the performance of installed PV on the roof cannot be enough to use even the public use. Thereby, we need the new space in the building to install the PV except the building roof. This study suggests the building facade balcony as a new space to install the PV with building integrated PV design. Hence, in this study, we are designed the movable BIPV shading device for apartment building balcony, and verified its performance with computer simulation. Developed device in this study can works as an electronic generation device and an overhang on the side balcony. As a result, the electronic generation performance of device contributes 15~30% to each apartment unit. The more unit width increase, the better contributed device generates.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the development and characteristics of movable-housing planning concept. A document research method was used to analyze and classified the development of the movable-housing concept of 20th century. Through this study, the following conclusions have been reached; First, the origin of the movable-housing is from the prehistoric and traditional portable buildings, also due to the emergence of nomadic lifestyle using car traveling and mobile home in the 1920's. Second, the development of the movable-housing in 20th century was classified as follows; (1) In order to obtain the productivity and efficiency drawing from the industrialized-housing in the early of 1900s, movable furniture and flexibility was proposed. (2) American mobile home in 1920's, influenced by the development of car industry, was the most successful example of a factory-built building to be found in the world. (3) Dymaxion house and dome by R.B.Fuller, an aggregation of high-tech mechanical equipment, had a great impact on the development the concept of 'mobility' and influenced Archigram & Metabolist's movable capsule ideas in 1960's. (4) The lightweight materials such as plastic, duralumin and pneumatic structure were adopted for movable-housing in 1960's. Through this research, It is discovered that the stage of social development has close links with the developing aspects of movable-housing concepts. This study shows that the combination of three planning concepts such as flexible housing, mobile-housing and capsule will be more ideal in movable-housing planning rather than relying on just one type.
Despite the high historical and topological values, closed schools are rarely reutilized. The reason can be likely explained by integrity of the building structure and unawareness of the operation and maintenance for closed schools. The purpose of this study is finding a possibility of reusing closed schools by deploying SI (Skeleton and Infill) theory. SI theory is separating the "skeleton" like structure from "infill" such as interior furnishings to extend building life without complete demolishing of the building. It will allow satisfying various local community demands by alternating infill without demolishing of historical and topological value of the building. The experimental test was undertaken with closed school for this study. The local community's demands or opinions were reflected to develop a strategy for deploying infill system especially movable storage furniture to closed school. The study finds possibilities that SI theory can assist local community to 1) construct potential demand for utilizing closed school and 2) suggest strategy for operating and maintaining closed school.
To date the engineering community has seen facade systems as non-structural elements with high aesthetic value and a barrier between the outdoor and indoor environments. The role of facades in energy use in a building has also been recognized and the industry is also witnessing the emergence of many energy efficient facade systems. This paper will focus on using exterior skin of the double skin facade system as a dissipative movable element during earthquake excitation. The main aim of this study is to investigate the potential of the facade system to act as a damper system to reduce earthquake-induced vibration of the primary structure. Unlike traditional mass dampers, which are usually placed at the top level of structures, the movable/smart double skin facade systems are distributed throughout the entire height of building structures. The outer skin is moveable and can act as a multi tuned mass dampers (MTMDs) that move and dissipate energy during strong earthquake motions. In this paper, using a three dimensional 10-storey building structure as the example, it is shown that with optimal choice of materials for stiffness and damping of brackets connecting the two skins, a substantial portion of earthquake induced vibration energy can be dissipated which leads to avoiding expensive ductile seismic designs. It is shown that the engineering demand parameters (EDPs) for a low-rise building structures subjected to moderate to severe earthquakes can be substantially reduced by introduction of a smart designed double skin system.
This paper investigates the applicability of movable sensors that can be attached to hard hats to protect construction site safety management to prevent safety accidents based on accident case studies in the field of construction engineering and the gas sensors currently used in construction sites. We would like to propose MQ-2, a standard Arduino gas sensor.
The horn and movable parts around the gap of the conventional semi-spade rudder are visualized by high speed CCD camera with the frame rate of 4000 fps (frame per second) to study the unsteady cavity pattern on the rudder surface and gap. In addition, the pressure measurements are conducted on the rudder surface and inside the gap to find out the characteristics of the flow behavior. The rudder without propeller wake is tested at the range of $1.0{\leq}{\sigma}_v\;1.6$ and at the rudder deflection angle of $-8{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}10^{\circ}$. The time resolved cavity images are captured and show strong cavitation around the rudder gap in all deflection angles. As the deflection angle gets larger, the flow separated from the horn surface increases the strength of cavitation. The accelerated flow along the horn decreases its pressure and the separated flow from the horn increases the pressure abruptly. The pressure distribution inside the gap reveals the flow moving from the pressure to suction side. In the negative deflection angle, the turning area on the movable part initiates the flow separation and cavitation on it.
This study intends to evaluate the effect on indoor environment(annual thermal load, sunshine)by the application of the movable horizontal shading device on summer and winter season. For these purpose, we supposed the models which are composed of the several horizontal shading devices. Then we analyzed the simulation using the IES5.5.1 and Seoul weather data. The results of this study are as follows: 1) The proper length, angle of horizontal shading device is 2.1m, 28 degree, respectively. 2) The decreasing rate of the annual load of the Movable Horizontal Shading Model(MHSM) in comparison with the No Shading Model(NSM) & Conventional Horizontal Shading Model(CHSM) is 31.11%, 6.63% respectively. 3) The decrease of sunshine of the MHSM on summer season is effective the alleviation of visual displeasure. On the other hand, the increase of sunshine of the MHSM on winter season is effective the psychological comfort. Further study is to be required the sensitivity analysis on the various shading length for the realistic proper shading length.
