  • Switched reluctance machine has much attention because of high efficiency, high power and DC series torque characteristics with a traction drive. But the motor has to have a regenerative mode when it is adopted in an electric vehicle. A current divergence during the regeneration makes difficulties in the control of SRM. This paper proposes a reference current limitation strategy for a stable regeneration based on simulations and experimental tests. The motor is operated with conventional current limit and switching angle control method in motoring mode. Simulations and experiments are executed to verify proposed method.

  • The paper proposed a control strategy for flywheel energy/recovery system with induction machine at the dynamic UPS system using the flywheel stored mechanical energy. The performances for the vector controlled induction generator are compared with those for the induction generator using slip control method. The strategy to improve the transient responses for dc link capacitor voltage is suggested at the transition from the motoring mode to the generating mode. The strategy Proposed by the paper is verified with experiment results using 32bit DSP.

  • This paper describes an electric vehicle DC-DC drive system capable of delivering motoring current and of generating braking current. The power transistor chopper Is adopted to operate a DC series motor. The transistor chopper adopted, a high chopping frequency and avoids additional inductance In series with the armature winding. The four-quadrant drive is applied to save the energy. The energy saving is critical in operating the Independent power source electric vehicle. Using software simulation, regeneration and braking characteristics are investigated. The microprocessor-based controller is used to operate the whole system.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear controller is proposed for Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) drives. The nonlinear controller is designed based on an adaptive backstepping control technique, using a fifth order model of an induction machine in the synchronous d & q axis rotating reference frame, whose d axis coincides with the space voltage vector of the main AC supply, and using the rotor current and stator flux components as state variables. The nonlinear controller can perfectly track the torque reference signal measured in the stator terminals under the condition of unity power factor regulation, in spite of the stator and rotor resistance variations. In order to make the drive system capable of operating in the motoring and generating modes below and above the synchronous speed, two level Space-Vector PWM (SV-PWM) back-to-back voltage source inverters are employed in the rotor circuit. It is confirmed through computer simulation results that the proposed control approach is effective and valid.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the leakage characteristics of the valve stem in the gasoline engines. Especially, three factors affecting oil leakage are the power cylinder, engine head system, and the positive crankcase ventilation system. Which is the most variables, analysis difficulty is the valve stem seal characteristics. The testing system is used with oil motoring system. The leakage of an engine is analyzed for the cylinder temperature, atmosphere pressure, positive pressure, negative pressure, revolution of the camshaft and the surface roughness of the valve stem.

  • This paper presents design of control system for permanent magnet synchronous generator(PMSG). The gas engine make rotating mechanical energy from gas fuel energy. The rotor of synchronous generator is connected to axis of engine. And it converts the mechanical energy to the electrical energy. The control system of PMSG helps the electrical energy to flow to grid. the single phase pfc rectifier controls the DC-link voltage by controlling the current of filter inductor. If the DC-link voltage is higher than the voltage reference, the filter current could be controlled to flow to grid. The three phase inverter controls the stator current of generator. The direction of the current is controlled depends on motoring or generating mode. The feasibility of the grid-connected PMSG is verified by the experimental results with 1kW prototype.

  • The porvision against earthquakes and aseismic design of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Korea are composed of four stages: site-selection, design, construction, and operation stages, Since regulatory criteria are strictly applied in each stage, the NPPs in Korea are believed to have a sufficient safety against maximum potential earthquakes. However, it has been recognized that those regulatory criteria borrowed from U.S. should be replace by Korea-specific ones by using earthquake data obtained from earthquake observation at and around NPP sites. Also, the government made a plan after the Yongwol and th Kyongju earthquakes that the regulatory body operates an independent earthquake network in order to reinforce the earthquake preparedness of NPPs. In compliance with the government's plan, this project is aiming at deployment of an earthquake motoring network composed of four seismic stations at NPP sites to record earthquake ground motions at NPP sites, to derive attenuation formulas of various ground motions and site-specific response spectra, and to develop structural intergrity assesment program.

  • Energy recovery in the regenerative region is very important when SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is used in traction drive. This is because that to reduce energy toss during mechanical breaking and/or to have a high efficiency drive during breaking. To control excitation voltage in motor operation and regenerative voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper proposes multi-level inverter which is useful for motoring and regenerative operation in SRM. The proposed method is verified by experiment.

  • Combustion of diesel engine depends on the mixing of air and evaporating fuel during ignition delay greatly. Variation of air-fuel mixing rate and ignition delay for engine operating condition causes difference of combustion, performance and exhaust emissions. This study is investigated in a turbocharged diesel engine of IDI swirl chamber type. In the results, As injection timing is advanced until $12.6^{\circ}$ BTC, ignition delay decreases. NOx concentration and smoke level in exhaust gas increases for advanced injection timing Ignition delay, combustion period, pressure rise rate and exhaust gas temperature are increased with increasing engine speed. And ignition delay at high load is more decreased than that at low load. Ignition delay and combustion period are decreased with increasing intake pressure. Power increases, temperature and CO, NOx concentration in exhaust gas decreases as intake pressure increases. With increasing load, ignition delay is decreased and combustion period, motoring pressure are increased.
