  • Recently, it has to design the motor to raise power density because of many necessary application, such as home appliances and hybrid electric vehicles. Power of motor is made up of the torque and speed. So, if the motor which is the same size and shape is designed to raise speed, power and power density are increase.

  • The electric power wheelchair needs to control motor torque and speed for responding to variable actions given by handling a joystick. In this paper a DSP-based BLDC motor controller using a single dc-link current sensor is presented for electric power wheelchair. It is composed by a DSP processor and three-phase inverter module. To control torque, high speed current control is achieved by the PI controller and pulse width modulation (PWM) signals with 25 kHz carrier frequency, which is performed by 200 ${\mu}sec$ cycle. The speed controller computes the new direct current reference from the speed error and the PI control equation. The displacement value by handling the joystick is converted to reference speeds of right and left wheel motors using nonholonomic wheelchair kinematics. Experimental results show that the presented control system is enough to implement a speed servo in wheelchair driving.

  • Speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of motor. Various control algorithms have been proposed for the elimination of speed senor. This paper investigates a novel speed sensorless control of induction motor. The proposed control strategy is based on MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) using state observer as a reference model for flux estimation. This algorithm may overcome several shortages of conventional MRAS: integrator problems, small EMF at low speed and relatively large sensitivity to resistance variation. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • This paper is proposed a newly developed approach to identify the mechanical speed of an induction motor based on artificial neural networks technique. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back propagated to adjust the rotor speed, so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The back propagation mechanism is easy to derive and the estimated speed tracks precisely the actual motor speed. This paper is proposed the theoretical analysis as well as the simulation results to verify the effectiveness of the new method.

However, speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. Therefore, many studies have been performed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. This paper investigates an improved sensorless control of an induction motor. The proposed control strategy utilizes the reactive power for estimating the speed of a sensorless induction motor. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experimentation.

  • This paper proposes a new adaptive speed controller to achieve a robust speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). The proposed adaptive regulator does not require any information on the motor parameter and load torque values, so it is very insensitive to model parameter and load torque variations. Also, the stability of the proposed adaptive control system is proven. To validate the robustness of the proposed adaptive speed controller, both simulation and experimental results are provided under motor parameter and load torque variations. It is clearly demonstrated that the proposed adaptive regulator can accurately control the speed of permanent magnet synchronous motors.

Therefore, many studies have been peformed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. This paper investigates a novel speed sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed control strategy is based on the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) using the state observer model with the current error feedback and the magnet flux model as two models for the back-emf estimation. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • This paper representes a realization of a fuzzy logic speed controller for BLDC motor drives. Fuzzy sets are regulated by using parameters of BLDC motor. Simplified reasoning methods are used for defuzzification. Fuzzy logic speed controller is designed by using the high performance of DSPchip (TMS320F240). By experiment, it is confirmed that the speed of BLDC motor well follows an command speed in the load variables or low-speed area.

  • The Ultrasonic motor(USM) has many good characteristics such as high torque at low speed range, large holding torque based upon frictional force, high speed response, flexible free ferns, compactness in size, low magnetic noise and silentness in motion. Because of having low speed rotation, USM is good as an actuator of a small size direct drive (DD) manipulator. The acturators for the DD manipulators must have good controllability on the speed and torque from zero to maximum value continuously. New method was developed for speed and torque control by the phase difference control of the two-phase driving signals of the motor. Then rule adjustable compliant and dumped motion was realized on the output shaft of the motor by PD control of the output shaft angle.

  • In this paper, a novel speed control strategy using an acceleration feedforward compensation by the estimation of the system inertia is proposed. With the proposed method, the enhanced speed control performance can be achieved and the speed response against the disturbance torque can be improved for the vector-controled induction motor drive systems in which the bandwidth of the speed controller cannot be made large enough. The simulation and experimental results for induction motor drive systems confirm the validity of the proposed strategy.
