  • Heat and fluid flow in the motor block room of a motorized car is numerically simulated. The motorized car, composed of a motor block room and a passenger room, supplies additional Power to achieve the design speed. A motor block, a transformer, and a fan are equipped in the motor block room. Flow phenomena in the ducts on the motor block and power transformer are investigated. Also, the three dimensional heat and fluid flow in the motor block room is simulated to give a qualitative information of the flow characteristics.

  • In this paper, design and construction process for the standardized electric motor car according to standard specification is described. Aluminum extrusion profiles and power and control system made domestically are used in the electric motor car. Also, plug-sliding door system for noise reduction and automatic train control system are developed and applied. Through the development of the electric motor car, most electric and control systems can be substituted by domestic standard systems, and safety and reliability of electric motor cars can be secured.

  • The in-wheel motor used in green car was designed and constructed for an electric direct-drive traction system. It is difficult to connect cooling water piping because the in-wheel motor is located within the wheel structure. In the air cooling structure for the in-wheel motor, a outer surface on the housing is provided with cooling grooves to increase the heat transfer area. In this study, we carried out the analysis on the fluid flow and thermal characteristics of the in-wheel motor under the effects of motor speed and heat generation. In order to check the problem of heat release, the analysis has been performed using conjugate heat transfer (conduction and convection). As a result, flow fields and temperature distribution inside the in-wheel motor were obtained for base speed condition (1250 rpm) and maximum speed condition (5000 rpm). Also, the thermo-flow characteristics analysis of in-wheel motor for vehicles was performed in consideration of ram air effect. Therefore, we checked the feasibility of the air cooling for the housing geometry having cooling grooves and investigated the cooling performance enhancement.

  • In this paper, we describe the Solar Car, Woongbi, which was created to participate in the World Solar Challenge(WSC) at the team NeulHaeRang of Korea National University of Transportation. The WSC is the world's largest solar car racing competition and has a separate automobile regulation and must be manufactured to meet the regulations. Therefore, the key point of the solar car design is to optimize the energy efficiency based on the regulations. The solar car's drive system consists of a solar array to convert solar energy into electric energy, a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) controller to track the converted electric energy to maximum output power, a battery to store the produced electric energy, a BLDC (Brushless DC) motor for driving the vehicle by converting energy into mechanical energy, and a motor controller for controlling the BLDC. The optimal design methods for solar energy conversion and electric driving system of battery, motor are presented in this paper.

Extracting Of Car License Plate Using Motor Vehicle Regulation And Character Pattern Recognition (차량 규격과 특징 패턴을 이용한 자동차 번호판 추출)

  • Extracting of car licens plate os important for identifying the car. Since there are some problems such as poor ambient lighting problem, bad weather problem and so on, the car images are distorted and the car license plate is difficult to be extracted. This paper proposes a method of extracting car license plate using motor vehicle regulation. In this method, some features of car license plate according to motor vehicle regulation such as color information, shape are applied to determine the candidate of car license plates. For the result of recognition by neural network, the candidate which has characters and numbers patterns according to motor vehicle regulation is certified as license-plate region. The results of the experiments with 70 samples of real car images shoe the performance of car license-plate extraction by 84.29%, and the recognition rate is 80.81%.

Interior noise prediction of the high speed train using ray method (광음향기법을 이용한 한국형 고속전철의 실내소음 예측)

  • This study is about predicting the interior pressure level of the korean high speed train using ray acoustic method. The motor car and the motor and passenger cabin are investigated under the environment of passing open countryside and inside tunnel of 350 km/hr. Calculated sound levels are compared with the proposed sound levels and suggestions about the transmission Joss values of isolating panels inside motor car and the guide lines of allowed sound power limit of motor equipments are provided. Results of TPI car show calculated interior sound level is below the proposed values for both cases of open countryside running and inside tunnel. Since ray acoustic method calculated only air borne noise component, real sound level of the motor car may be higher than prediction. Passenger cabins of TMI, TM5 show higher sound level than the proposed values, so window method was carried out to find the contribution of each panel components and point out the remedy of transmission path. Reduction of sound power of motor equipments should be condisered at the same time.

Especially, since a utility car such as a golf car performance depends on initial acceleration and maximum speed capability, a drive system requires high power and large and wide operation area, This study therefore investigates on the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor with high power density and wide operation, and is verified with the test result after design and characteristic analysis is performed.

  • This paper discusses the design and control of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system for a built-in car vacuum cleaner. The growing popularity of outdoor activities and recreation has led the automobile industry to expand technologies that increase the convenience of vehicles, and thus, a built-in car vacuum cleaner was introduced. However, the existing DC motor of a vacuum cleaning system has several disadvantages, such as maintenance cost and lifespan issues of its commutator-brush structure. An SRM can be a good alternative to the existing DC motor because of its high-speed capability, long lifespan, low maintenance cost, and high efficiency, among other advantages. A prototype SRM drive is designed and manufactured to verify its feasibility for use in a built-in car vacuum cleaning system. Dynamic simulation is conducted to determine the optimal switching angle for maximum efficiency and minimum torque ripple. Load test, noise measurement, and suction-power tests are also carried out.
