Effectiveness of a Turbo Direction Change for Reduction of Motion Artifact in Magnetic Resonance Enterography

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate an effectiveness of switching turbo direction to improve motion artifacts of small bowels and aorta. From June to October 2015, 60 patients suspected of having Crohn's disease were enrolled. The MR Enterography scans were performed using same protocol other than the turbo direction: with the Z phase encoding (group A) and with Y phase encoding (group B). Qualitative analysis of each group was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of switching turbo direction from Z to Y. As a result, the 5-point Likert scale for paired observers were $2.33{\pm}0.88$ for group A and $3.80{\pm}0.85$ for group B on dynamic contrast enhanced coronal images. In conclusion, group B is proved to be superior to group A and can lessen the motion artifacts derived from phase shifts.

  • The ionic-polymer-metal-composite actuators have the best merit for bio-mimetic locomotion because of their large bending performance. Especially, they have the advantage for mimicking a fish-like motion because IPMCs are useful to be actuated in water. So we have developed IPMC actuators with multiple electrodes for realization of biomimetic motion. Generally, the IPMC actuator has been fabricated in electroless plating technique, while it needs very long fabrication time and shows poor repeatability in the actuation performance owing to the variables in chemical fabrication process. Therefore, the novel fabrication methods were investigated by combining electroless plating and electroplating techniques capable of patterning precisely. On the whole, two different methods were compared and analyzed with similar thickness level of Platinum electrodes. Present results show that mixing chemical reduction and electroplating can be a promising candidate for electrode patterning.

  • In this paper we propose AODC(Adaptive Over Driving Circuit) to reduce motion blurring and compensate color accuracy on LCD monitor. The proposed method has been experimented on adaptive ODC by motion grade after detection of moving objects. Also, we discriminated motion grade by mean value's degree of differential value between current frame and previous frame to detect moving objects. It has been found that the proposed method provides better performance than the conventional one from the point of view on the blurring of movement objects through the experiment. Its results show that the proposed method is very suitable for a motion blurring reduction on LCD monitor.

인간손의 동작과 모양을 모방한 휴머노이드 로봇손 설계 (Design of a Humanoid Robot Hand by Mimicking Human Hand's Motion and Appearance)

  • A specialized anthropomorphic robot hand which can be attached to the biped humanoid robot MAHRU-R in KIST, has been developed. This built-in type hand consists of three fingers and a thumb with total four DOF(Degrees of Freedom) where the finger mechanism is well designed for grasping typical objects stably in human's daily activities such as sphere and cylinder shaped objects. The restriction of possible motions and the limitation of grasping objects arising from the reduction of DOF can be overcome by reflecting a typical human finger's motion profile to the design procedure. As a result, the developed hand can imitate not only human hand's shape but also its motion in a compact and efficient manner. Also this novel robot hand can perform various human hand gestures naturally and grasp normal objects with both power and precision grasping capability.

계층적 삼각화를 이용한 움직임 추정과 보상 (Motion Estimation and Compensation using hierarchical triangulation)

  • 본 논문에서는 움직임의 양에 따라 삼각형 메쉬의 크기와 위치를 가변할 수 있는 계층적 삼각화 방법을 이용한 움직임 추정 방법을 제안한다. 이미지의 차의 분산을 이용하여 움직임의 양을 측정하고 삼각형의 세분화를 행함으로써 움직임이 많은 영역에 노드가 집중되도록 하고 계층적 삼각형 메쉬의 생성이 가능한 세분화 방법을 제시한다. 또한 계층화된 메쉬의 구조를 전송하기 위한 추가정보의 양을 줄일 수 있는 부호화 방법에 대해서 논한다. 실험결과 제안한 방법이 기존의 BMA이나 다른 메쉬 구조를 사용한 방법보다 PSNR이 평균 0.5㏈ 우수한 성능을 나타냄을 보인다.

이동벡터 추정을 위한 고속 Block Matching Algorithm에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fast Block Matching Algorithm for the Motion Vector Estimation)

  • In this paper effective block matching algorithms are proposed to find the motion vector. There are two approaches to the estimation of the motion vector in MCC (motion compensated coding), i.e.pel(pixel element) recursive algorithm and block matching algorithm. The search algorithm in this paper is based on the block matching method. The advantage of this algorithm is the reduction of the computation time. In order to reduce the computation time, three mathods are proposed in this paper. These new algorithms are faster than other methods. Compared with the three step algorithm by Koga et al., the average ratio of the computational savings obtained from the proposed algorithm is about 3-4.

CNC 머시닝센터의 정밀도 향상을 위한 반복학습제어 (An Iterative Learning Control for the Precision Improvement of a CNC Machining center)

  • We made a counter to measure the output of motor encoders for the motion error analysis of a CNC machining center, and have measured the dynamic characteristics and the position errors experimentally. Especially, we measured the radius errors for different feedrates and different radii when the CNC machining center performed a circular interpolation. We have also used an iterative learning method to reduce the radius errors and stick motion errors generated by the CNC machining center performing a circular interpolation. The results show that the proposed learning scheme can reduce the radius error and stick motion error significantly. The reduction of errors becomes more pronounced for higher feedrate and smaller radius.

  • Blood flow is one of vital signals related to human physiological information. Photoplethysmograph (PPG) has been used to measure indirectly heart rate, blood oxygen saturation ($SpO_2$), and so on. Because PPG signal is weak and sensitive to motion artifacts, it is very important to continuously obtain stable PPG signal during free movement. In this study, we applied the scaled Fourier linear combiner (SFLC) using both the adaptive filter and FLC to remove effectively the motion artifacts as well as background noise in the real time without additional signal correlated with motion from a accelerometer. The proposed method would be useful to reduce the movement and background noise which are not synchronized with heart rate.

드러난 영역 예측을 이용한 초저 비트율 동영상 부호화 (Very Low Bit Rate Video Coding Algorithm Using Uncovered Region Prediction)

  • In order to solve the problem of uncovered background region due to the region-due to the region-based motion estimation, this paper presents a new method which generates the uncovered region memory using motion estimation and shows the application of the algorithm for very low bit rate video coding. The proposed algorithm can be briefly described as follows it detects the changed region by using the information of FD(frame difference) and segmentation, and then as for only that region the backward motion estimation without transmission of shape information is done. Therefore, from only motion information the uncovered background region memory is generated and updated. The contents stored in the uncovered background region memory are referred whenever the uncovered region comes into existence. The regions with large prediction error are transformed and coded by using DCT. As results of simulation, the proposed algorithm shows the superior improvement in the subjective and objective image quality due to the remarkable reduction of transmission bits for prediction error.

블록 분류와 반화소 단위 움직임 추정을 이용한 웨이브릿 변환 영역에서의 계층적 고속 움직임 추정 방법 (Fast Multiresolution Motion Estimation in Wavelet Transform Domain Using Block Classification and HPAME)

  • 반화소 단위 움직임 추정(half pixel accuracy motion estimation, HPAME)과 블록 분류(block classification)를 이용한 계층적 고속 움직임 추정 알고리듬을 제안하였다 제안한 알고리듬은 기존의 MRME(multi-resolution motion estimation)알고리듬보다 우수한 화질을 유지하면서 계산량 및 비트량을 크게 줄일 수 있는 장점을 갖는다. 제안한 알고리듬에서는 다해상도 영상에 대한 움직임 추정 시 고주파 부대역의 움직임 추정에 기준 움직임으로 사용되는 기저대역의 움직임 벡터를 정확하게 추정하기 위하여 HPAME을 행한다. 그리고 고주파 부대역에서는 기저대역에서의 HPAME로 인한 계산량 및 비트량의 증가를 보상하기 위하여 움직임 추정이 필요한 블록들에 대하여서만 선별적으로 미소 움직임을 추정한다. 이때 고주파 부대역에서의 미소 움직임 추정의 수행 여부는 대응되는 기저대역 블록의 움직임 벡터 특성과 블록 분류에 따른 클래스 정보를 이용하여 결정한다 제안한 알고리듬의 성능은 컴퓨터 모의 실험 결과로부터 확인하였다.
