The Design and Implementation of a Network-based Stand-alone Motion System

  • A motion controller has been used variously in industry such as semiconductor manufacture equipment, industrial robot, assembly/conveyor line applications and CNC equipment. There are several types of controller in motion control. One of these is a PC-based motion controller such as PCI or ISA, and another is stand-alone motion controller. The PC bus-based motion controller is popular because of improving bus architectures and GUI (Graphic User Interface) that offer convenience of use to user. There are some problems in this. The PC bus-based solution allows for only one of the form factors, so it has a poor flexibility. The overall system package size is bigger than other motion control system. And also, additional axes of control require additional slot, however the number of slots is limited. Furthermore, unwieldy and many wirings come to connect plants or I/O. The stand-alone motion controller has also this limit of axes of control and wiring problems. To resolve these problems, controller must have capability of operating as stand-alone devices that resides outside the computer and it needs network capability to communicate to each motion device. In this paper, a network-based stand-alone motion system is proposed. This system integrates PC and motion controller into one stand-alone motion system, and uses CAN (Controller Area Network) as network protocol. Single board computer that is type of 3.5" FDD form factor is used to reduce the system size and cost. It works with Windows XP Embedded as operating system. This motion system operates by itself or serves as master motion controller that communicates to slave motion controller. The Slave motion controllers can easily connect to master motion system through CAN-network.

  • For agile production methods, manufacturing system requires development of a motion controller which has flexibility of general-purpose motion controller and productivity of specialized-purpose one. In this study we developed a flowchart programming development environment for motion language and process control. A controller designed on this environment can be used as a general purpose motion controller of a machine tool. Design of control programming based on a flowchart has the advantages such as reducing the programming time and improving intuitiveness of interface for users.   • This study compares hand-based interfaces to improve a user's virtual reality (VR) presence by enhancing user immersion in VR interactions. To provide an immersive experience, in which users can more directly control the virtual environment and objects within that environment using their hands and, to simultaneously minimize the device burden on users using immersive VR systems, we designed two experimental interfaces (hand motion recognition sensor- and controller-based interactions). Hand motion recognition sensor-based interaction reflects accurate hand movements, direct gestures, and motion representations in the virtual environment, and it does not require using a device in addition to the VR head mounted display (HMD). Controller-based interaction designs a generalized interface that maps the gesture to the controller's key for easy access to the controller provided with the VR HMD. The comparative experiments in this study confirm the convenience and intuitiveness of VR interactions using the user's hand.

  • The purpose of this research is to realize interactive art based on user's motions information using real time internet search terms. For this purpose, real-time search terms and related news information were extracted from three domestic and foreign portal sites, and the extracted information was used to generate content for interaction with the user. For interaction between the generated content and the user, a motion-based interactive technology that optimizes the intentions and experiences of the user was developed. A motion-based interactive system can be used to develop an immersive interface that induces user interest.

  • A user interface that connects a user to intelligent robots needs to be designed for executing them efficiently. In this paper, it is analyzed how to organize a mobile terminal based user interface according to the function and level of autonomy of intelligent robots and the user interface of PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) and smart phone is developed for controlling intelligent robots remotely. In the image-based user interface, a user can see the motion of a robot directly and control the robot. In the map-based interface, the quantity of transmission information is reduced and therefore a user can control the robot with a small delay of transmission time.

  • The water droplet motion and the interaction between the droplets in a PEMFC air flow channel with multiple pores, through which water emerges, is studied numerically by solving the equations governing the conservation of mass and momentum. The liquid-gas interface is tracked by a level set method which is based on a sharp-interface representation for accurately imposing the matching conditions at the interface. The method is modified to implement the contact angle conditions on the walls and pores. The dynamic interaction between the droplets growing on multiple pores while keeping the total water flow rate through pores constant is investigated by conducting the computations until the droplet motion exhibits a periodic pattern. The numerical results show that the droplet merging caused by increasing the number of pores is not effective for water removal and that the contact angle of channel wall strongly affects water management in the PEMFC air flow channel.

  • NUI is a motion interface. It uses the body of the user without the use of HID device such as a mouse and keyboard to control the device. In this paper, we use a Pi Camera and sensors connected to it with small embedded board Raspberry Pi. We are using the OpenCV algorithms optimized for image recognition and computer vision compared with traditional HID equipment and to implement a more human-friendly and intuitive interface NUI devices. comparison operation detects motion, it proposed a more advanced motion sensors and recognition systems fused connected to the Raspberry Pi.

  • The purpose of this research is 1) to search for the possibility of DMDI(Digitalwear based on motion-detective input technology) as an apparel product and 2) to develop designs of DMDI based on consumers' demand. This research consists of part I and part Ⅱ. In partⅠ, six design guidelines for designing of DMDI and five feasible applications were suggested as the result of an empirical study. In part Ⅱ of this research, two basic directions for designing of DMDI were suggested on the basis of the findings in part Ⅰ. Total 5 design prototypes of DMDI were developed, for which ‘wearability as an apparel product’ and ‘usability as an physical interface’ were intensively considered.

  • Recently, personal robots and home robots are developing by many companies and research groups. It is considered that a general effective interface for user of those robots is speech or voice. In this paper, Japanese speech based man-machine interface system is discussed for reflecting the fuzziness of natural language on robots, by using fuzzy reasoning. The present system consists of the derivation part of action command and the modification part of the derived command. In particular, a unique problem of Japanese is solved by applying the morphological analyzer ChaSen. The proposed system is applied for the motion control of a robot manipulator. It is proved from the experimental results that the proposed system can easily modify the same voice command to the actual different levels of the command, according to the current state of the robot.

  • A touchless user interface system is proposed for real-time mobile devices in this work. The proposed system first recognizes the position of pattern to interact various applications based on the scene taken from mobile camera. Then, the proposed system traces the route of the pattern, which estimates the motion of pattern based on the mean-shift method. Based on this information, we control menu and keypad for the various applications. Differ from other user interface systems, the proposed system provides the new experience to even for the user of low-end mobile without additional hardware. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides better interaction performances than the conventional method, while achieving real-time user interacting for mobile devices.
