Although most current video coding standards set a fixed motion vector resolution like quarter-pel accuracy, a scheme supporting multiple motion vector resolutions can improve the coding efficiency of video since it can allow to use just required motion vector accuracy depending on the video content and at the same time to generate more accurate motion predictor. However, the selected motion vector resolution for each motion vector is a signaling overhead. This paper proposes a contradiction testing-based signaling scheme of the motion vector resolution. The proposed method selects a best resolution for each motion vector among multiple candidates in such a way to produce the minimum amount of coded bits for the motion vector. The signaling overhead is reduced by contradiction testing that operates under a predefined criterion at both encoder and decoder with a purpose of pruning irrelevant candidate motion vector resolutions from signaling responsibility. Experimental results verified that the proposed scheme is effective in reducing coded motion information by achieving its $Bj{\o}ntegaard$ delta bit rate (BDBR) gain of about 4.01% on average (and up to 15.17%) compared to the conventional scheme with a fixed motion vector resolution.
In this papar, we propose a new motion estimation and coding technique using adaptive motion vector resolution. Currently, HEVC encodes a video using 1/4 motion vector resolution. If there are high texture regions in a picture, HEVC can't get a performance enough. So, we insert additional 1-bit flag meaning whether motion vector resolution is 1/4 or 1/8 in PU syntax. Therefore, decoder can recognize the transmitted motion vector resolution. Experimental results show that maximum coding efficiency gain of the proposed method is up to 5.3% in luminance and 7.9% in chrominance. Average computional time complexity is increased about 33% in encoder and up to 5% in decoder.
In H.264, sub-pel motion estimation (ME) has strong effect when coding video sequences. 1/4-pel performs better at low bitrate while 1/8-pel gives better results at high bitrate. In this paper, a variable sub-pixel motion vector resolution based on block mode motion estimation method is proposed. Experiment results show that the proposed method can take the advantage of 1/4-pel at low bitrate and 1/8-pel at high bitrate. In addition to that, time is reduced from 14% to 53% compared to KTA1.3 with 1/8-pel motion vector (MV) resolution.

This paper proposes an object detection algorithm using the Multiresolution Motion Estimation(MRME) in wavelet d야main. A existing motion estimation method has characteristics of motion estimation but it requires having computation. Motion estimation in higher resolution used the motion vector of the lower resolution with the MRME that has parent-child relationship on wavelet coefficients. This method reduces the search area of motion estimation in higher resolution and computational complexity. The computational complexity of the proposed method is about 40% of the existing method using 3-level Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees(SPIHT) wavelet transform. The experimental results with the proposed method showed about 11% decrease of Mean Absolute Difference(MAD) and gains able to precise tracking of object.
Among various inter prediction techniques of Versatile Video Coding (VVC), adaptive motion vector resolution (AMVR) technology has been adopted. However, for AMVR, various MVs should be tested per each coding unit, which needs a computation of rate-distortion cost and results in an increase in encoding complexity. Therefore, in order to reduce the encoding complexity of AMVR, it is necessary to effectively find an optimal AMVR mode. In this paper, we propose a lightweight neural network-based AMVR decision algorithm based on more diverse datasets.
In this paper, we propose a new method for reducing the computational overhead of fine-to-coarse multi-resolution motion estimation (MRME) at the finest resolution level by searching for the region to consider motion vectors of the coarsest resolution subband. At this time, if half-pel accuracy motion estimation (HPAME) is used in the baseband where influence a lot of effect to the reconstructed image, we can have the motion vector exactly But, this method causes to higher computational overhead. So we suggest the method to the computational overhead by using selective interpolation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better results than the traditional algorithms from image quality.
In most conventional video codecs, such as MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, inter coding is performed with the fixed motion vector resolution. When KTA software was developed, resolution for MVs can be selected in each slice. Although KTA codec uses a variety of resolutions for ME, the selected resolution is applied over the entire pixels in the slice and the statistical property of the local area is not considered. In this paper, we propose an adaptive decision scheme for motion vector resolution which depends on region, where MV search area is divided to multiple regions according to the distance from PMV. In each region, the assigned resolution is used to estimate MV. Each region supports different resolution for ME from other regions. The efficiency of the proposed scheme is affected from threshold values to divide the search area and the entropy coding method to encode the estimated MV. Simulation results with HM3.0 which is the reference software of HEVC show that the proposed scheme provides bit rate gains of 0.9%, 0.6%, and 2.9% in Random Access, Low Delay with B picture, and Low Delay with P picture structures, respectively.

This paper proposes new motion vector re-estimation techniques for transcoding of heterogenous video coders. The first case is for transcoder of coding format. The coding algorithm with B-picture like MPEG standards is transcoded into the different algorithm without B-picture like H.261 standards. The second case is for transcoder of spatial resolution reduction. It generates a downscaled video bitstream at the video source. The third case is the integrated method that previous two cases are needed simultaneously. These three transcoding algorithms are compared and verified though reconstructed image quality in PSNR, motion vector errors between optimal motion vectors of cascaded trans- coder and motion vectors estimated by proposed methods and the amount of operation.

In this paper, a new hierarchical motion estimation (ME) scheme using the wavelet transformed multi-resolution image layers is proposed. While the coarse-to-fine (CtF) ME, used in previously proposed coding schemes, can provide a better estimate at the coarsest resolution, it is difficult to accurately track motion at finer resolution. On the other hand, in fine-to-coarse (FtC) ME, it can solves this local minima problem by estimating motion track at the finest subband and propagating the motion vector (MV) to coarser subband. But this method causes to higher computational overhead. This paper proposes a new method for reducing the computational overhead of fine-to-coarse rnulti-resolution motion estimation (MRME) at the finest resolution level by searching for the region to consider motion vectors of the coarsest resolution subband.
In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that is robust against the effects of objects that are relatively unaffected by camera motion and can accurately detect camera motion even in high resolution images. First, for more accurate camera motion detection, a global motion filter based on entropy of a motion vector is used to distinguish the background and the object. A block matching algorithm is used to find exact motion vectors. In addition, a matched filter with the angle of the ideal motion vector of each block is used. Motion vectors including 4 kinds of diagonal direction, zoom in, and zoom out are added additionally. The experiment shows that the precision, recall, and accuracy of camera motion detection compared to the recent results is improved by 12.5%, 8.6% and 9.5%, respectively.
