  • This paper describes a monocular PSD-based motion capture sensor to employ with commercial video game systems such as Microsoft's XBOX and Sony's Playstation II. The system compact, low-cost, and only requires a one-time calibration at the factory. The system includes a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) and active infrared (IR) LED markers that are placed on the object to be tracked. The PSD sensor is placed in the focal plane of a wide-angle lens. The micro-controller calculates the 3D position of the markers using only the measured intensity and 2D position on the PSD. A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of our prototype system. From the experimental results we see that the proposed system's compact size, low-cost, ease of installation, and high frame rates are suitable for high speed motion tracking in games.

  • This paper presents the analysis results of dynamics in the billiards game within the framework of rigid-body mechanics and a numerical simulation program. The friction exists between the ball and the table bed as well as between the ball and the rail. There are three parts in the dynamic behavior of the ball on the table bed; motion of the ball on the table bed, collision between balls, and collision between the ball and the cushion. During the development of the simulation program, the dynamics problems such as rolling motion and three-dimensional frictional impact motion have been analyzed in detail. The theoretical issues are implemented into a viable graphic simulation program and its efficacy is demonstrated through the experimental validation of the billiards game. The resulting analysis results are verified quantitatively and qualitatively using high-speed video camera. Through the experimental tests, it was found that the physical parameters such as coefficients of restitution and friction vary according to the motion variables and corresponding empirical formulations were developed. The simulation and experimental results agree well.

  • There are many videos about sports. There is a large need for content based video retrievals. In sports videos, the motions and camera works have much information about shots and plays. This paper proposes the baseball game process understanding using the similar motion retrieval on videos. We can retrieve the similar motion parts based on motions shown in videos using the space-time images describing the motions. Using a finite state model of plays, we can decide the precise point of pitches from the pattern of estimated typical motions. From only the motions, we can decide the precise point of pitches. This paper describes the method and the experimental results.

  • In this paper, an interface for the physical interactive game based on the exercise movement was designed. The interface which uses exercise motion detects was designed and applied to the physical interactive game. As a result, this application to the contents was made possible by combining the physical movements that involve motility through the training method. Furthermore, accurate exercise motions that correspond to each situation were induced using the game objects. The developed interface is expected to be used in a physical interactive game that incorporates other types of exercises.

  • Several algorithms have been introduced to render motion blur in real time by solving the visibility problem in the spatio-temporal domains. However, some algorithms render at interactive frame rates but have artifacts or noise. Therefore, we propose a new algorithm that renders real-time motion blur using extruded triangles. Our method uses two triangles in the previous and the current frame to make an extruded triangle then send it to the rasterization. To solve the occlusion between extruded triangles for a given pixel, we introduce a combining solution using a sorting in front to back order and bitwise operations in the spatio-temporal dimensions.

  • Disney Animation has showed not only artistic excellence but also technological innovations through a lot of animation films that they released. Especially with the unique concept that free-willed game characters dive into different worlds of games in animation film, received both critical and commercial acclaim for its stunning visuals and outstanding CG (computer graphics) effects. The purpose of this study is to analyze different styles of game worlds, Disney's layout pipeline, and in-house camera capture system used in . This paper analyzes that three game worlds in this film such as Fix-It Felix Jr., Sugar Rush, and Hero's Duty express different styles by using appropriate character animation and camera movements. Especially Hero's Duty game which new in-house camera capture system is extensively used maximizes unseen visuals by perfectly making realistic and believable game world. Disney's newly developed in-house camera capture system, which is used in this film for the first time, allows real camera's motion and shake and real-time camera's movement and correction within animation set. Result of this study proves that this system improves directing of feature animation and enhance efficiency of the layout department's production process. Therefore, it contributes to a great extent to development of animation films' business.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the method to recognize gestures based on inertia sensor which recognizes the movements of the user using inertia sensor and lets the user enjoy the game by comparing the recognized movements with the pre-defined movements for the game contents production. Additionally, it was tried to provide users with various data entry methods by letting them wear small controllers using three-axis accelerator sensor. Users can proceed the game by moving according to the action list printed on the screen. They can proceed the experiential games according to the accuracy and timing of their movements. If they use multiple small wireless controllers together wearing them on the major parts of hands and feet and utilize the proposed methods, they will be more interested in the game and be absorbed in it.

  • Classic game Pac-Man (Pacman) is playing a game using a somple hand gasture without using a keyboard or a mouse. In other words, it is a joystick game by motion to replace the arrow keys using the center coordinates of the hand. In addition, the pointer of hand is extracted by accepting images to MFC dialog using cam. Thus, movements of the monsters is to be replaced by hand movements. In this paper, smoothing, expansion, and erosion operation for the skin color extraction, and RGB images are converted to YCbCbr images.

  • Serious games based on VR(Virtual Reality) and motion recognition technologies have been studied in physical therapy and have shown significant positive effects. These existing systems have focused on measuring performance for the general public rather than patients which need rehabilitation. In the paper, We propose a serious game of self-rehabilitation that measures the patient's current physical state to generate appropriate difficulty levels to aid patients with shoulder injury.
