In current time, anomaly detection is the primary concern of the administrative authorities. Suspicious activity identification is shifting from a human operator to a machine-assisted monitoring in order to assist the human operator and react to an unexpected incident quickly. These automatic surveillance systems face many challenges due to the intrinsic complex characteristics of video sequences and foreground human motion patterns. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to detect anomalous human activity using a hybrid approach of statistical model and Genetic Programming. The feature-set of local motion patterns is generated by a statistical model from the video data in an unsupervised way. This features set is inserted to an enhanced Genetic Programming based classifier to classify normal and abnormal patterns. The experiments are performed using publicly available benchmark datasets under different real-life scenarios. Results show that the proposed methodology is capable to detect and locate the anomalous activity in the real time. The accuracy of the proposed scheme exceeds those of the existing state of the art in term of anomalous activity detection.
This paper investigates the dynamic behavior of a HDD spindle system due to the imperfect roundness of a rotating shaft. The shaft of a spindle motor rotates with eccentricity by the unbalanced mass of the rotating part. The eccentricity generates the run-out of a spindle motor which results in the eccentric motion of a rotating part. Roundness of a shaft affects this motion which limits the memory capacity of a HDD. This research proposes a modified Reynolds equation for the coupled journal and thrust FDBs to include the variable film thickness due to the roundness. Finite element method is used to solve the Reynolds equation for the pressure distribution. Reaction forces and friction torque are obtained by integrating the pressure and shear stress, respectively. The dynamic behavior is determined by solving the equations of a motion of a HDD spindle system in six degrees of freedom with the Runge-Kutta method to characterize the motion of a rotating part. This research shows that the roundness of a rotating shaft causes the excitation frequency with integer multiple of a rotating frequency.
This research deals with the influence of nonlinearities associated with impact and sliding upon the rocking behavior of a rigid block, which is subjected to two-dimensional horizontal and vertical excitation. Nonlinearities in the vibration were found to depend strongly on the effect of the impact between the block and the base, which involves an abrupt reduction in the system's kinetic energy. In particular, when sliding occurs, the rocking behavior is substantially changed. Response analysis using a non-dimensional rocking equation was carried out for a variety of excitation levels and excitation frequencies. The chaos responses were observed over a wide response region, particularly, in the cases of high vertical displacement and violent sliding motion, and the chaos characteristics appear in the time histories, Poincare maps, power spectra and Lyapunov exponents of the rocking responses. The complex behavior of chaotic response, in phase space, is illustrated by the Poincare map. The distribution of the rocking response is described by bifurcation diagrams and the effects of sliding motion are examined through the several rocking response examples.
A vertical launching system(VLS) is a system for holding and firing missiles on surface ships. When a missile is launched in VLS, relative motion between canister and missile and drag force induced by wind can cause initial unstability of a missile. Thus dynamic analysis of initial behavior of vertically launched missile should be performed to prevent collision with any structure of a ship. In this study, dynamic analyses of initial behavior of vertically launched missile are performed using Monte-Carlo simulation, which relys on random sampling and probabilistic distribution of variables. Each parameter related with dynamic behavior of a missile is modeled with probability variables and Recurdyn, a commercial software for multi body dynamic analysis, is used to perform Monte-Carlo simulation. As a result, initial behavior of a missile is evaluated with respect to various performance indexes in a probabilistic sense and sensitivity of the each parameters is calculated.
Rebar corrosion in concrete is one of the main causes of reduction of service life of reinforced concrete buildings. This paper presents the influence of rebar corrosion on the structural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings subjected to strong earthquake ground motion. Different levels of rebar corrosion scenarios were applied on a typical four story RC frame. The deteriorated conditions as a result of these scenarios include loss in cross-sectional area and loss of mechanical properties of the reinforcement bars, loss in bond strength, and loss in concrete strength and its modulus of elasticity. Dynamic analyses of the frame with different corrosion scenarios are performed with selected strong earthquake ground motion records. The influences of degradation in both concrete and reinforcement on structural behavior are investigated by comparing the various parameters of the frame under different corrosion scenarios with respect to each other. The results show that the progressive deterioration of the frame due to rebar corrosion causes serious structural behavior changes such as change in failure mode. The intensity, propagation time, and extensity of rebar corrosion have very important effects on the level of degradation of steel and concrete, as well as on the earthquake behavior of the structure.
The compressive capacity and the soil plugging resistance of single open-ended pipe pile were completely decreased in the previous study on the behavior of shorter single pile during simulated seaquake induced by the vertical component of earthquake. But the capacity of single open-ended pipe pile with greater penetration and the capacity of piles group with shorter penetration were expected to be stable after seaquake motion. In this study, first, 2-piles or 4-piles are driven into the calibration chamber included in saturated fine medium sand with several simulated penetrations, and the compressive load test for each piles group was performed. Then, about 95 % compressive load of the ultimate capacity was applied on the pile head during the simulated seaquake motion. Finally, In confirm the reduction of pile capacity during the simulated seaquake motion, the compressive load test for each single pile or piles group after seaquake motion was performed. During the simulated seaquake, the compressive capacity of open-ended pipe piles with greater penetration ( 〉about 27 m) was not degraded even in deep sea deeper than 220 m and soil plug within open-ended pipe pile installed in deep sea was stable after seaquake motion. Also, in the case of 2-piles or 4-pile groups, the compressive capacity after seaquake motion was not degraded at all regardless of pile penetration depth beneath seabed, sea water depth and seaquake frequency.
In this study, the installation location of accelerometer and accelerograph for dam are investigated in the field to establish of emergency action against dam failure when earthquake occur and to guarantee the results of seismic stability of dams which are analysed with dynamic analysis method during 1999 to 2003 by KOWACO. By a comparative study concerning of domestic and foreign guidelines of seismic strong motion instrumentation for dams, "Guidelines of Seismic Strong-Motion Instrumentation Installation, Operation and Maintenance for Dams" is established to set up the standard of seismic strong-motion instrumentation for dam, are supervised by KOWACO There is some problems in taking a measure of stability of dams when earthquake event occur because the existing seismic strong motion instruments are operated independently. This make difficult to confirm the occurrence of seismic event. For that reason, in this study the plan of unified operation and maintenance system for strong-motion instrument for dams is designed. It will make possible real-time seismic monitoring, data transmission and receiving, giving warning for earthquake, and exchanging data with national seismic network.
Recently, the tasks assigned to surface ship are becoming diverse and important. In this trend, shipboard directional pedestals are widely used for surveillance and electronic warfare because ships are always under angular motion such as rolling, pitching and yawing. To estimate the performance of pedestal, the motion responses of vessel as well as mechanical characteristics of pedestal should be considered. In this study, both the motion responses of vessel which the pedestal will be mounted and the behavior of 3-axis pedestal are considered. Numerical analysis based on potential theory is used to obtained motion characteristics of vessel and then 6-DOF motions of vessel are simulated under operational condition. 1st-order time delay model and LQR control algorithm are used for modeling of pedestal drive model and control model, respectively. By using coordinate transform, the angular motions which the pedestal should compensate are calculated from the vessel's angular motion. Through these M&S methodologies, time history of pedestal behavior and maximum angular error of each pedestal axis are obtained. Overall M&S results show that 3-axis pedestal compensate the angular motion induced by vessel, efficiently.
In this paper, we describe the OGY method that convert the motion on a chaotic attractor to attracting time periodic motion by malting only small perturbations of a control parameter. The OGY method is illustrated by application to the control of the chaotic motion in chaotic attractor to happen at the famous Logistic map and Henon map and confirm it by making periodic motion. We apply it the chaotic motion at the behavior of the thin beam under periodic torsional base-excitation, and this chaotic motion is made the periodic motion by numerical experiment in the time evaluation on this chaotic motion. We apply the OGY method with the Jacobian matrix to control the chaotic motion to the periodic motion.
Owing to our rapidly aging society, accessibility evaluation to enhance the ease and safety of access to indoor and outdoor environments for the elderly and disabled is increasing in importance. Accessibility must be assessed not only from the general standard aspect but also in terms of physical and cognitive friendliness for users of different ages, genders, and abilities. Meanwhile, human behavior simulation has been progressing in the areas of crowd behavior analysis and emergency evacuation planning. However, in human behavior simulation, environment models represent only "as-planned" situations. In addition, a pedestrian model cannot generate the detailed articulated movements of various people of different ages and genders in the simulation. Therefore, the final goal of this research was to develop a virtual accessibility evaluation by combining realistic human behavior simulation using a digital human model (DHM) with "as-is" environment models. To achieve this goal, we developed an algorithm for generating human-like DHM walking motions, adapting its strides, turning angles, and footprints to laser-scanned 3D as-is environments including slopes and stairs. The DHM motion was generated based only on a motion-capture (MoCap) data for flat walking. Our implementation constructed as-is 3D environment models from laser-scanned point clouds of real environments and enabled a DHM to walk autonomously in various environment models. The difference in joint angles between the DHM and MoCap data was evaluated. Demonstrations of our environment modeling and walking simulation in indoor and outdoor environments including corridors, slopes, and stairs are illustrated in this study.
