  • In this paper, motion analysis algorithm is presented for home surveillance of the aged who lives alone. For the first step, we acquire images from a camera. To enhance the image, we use median filtering and binarize it to reduce processing time. And then morphological operations are performed to remove small blobs and small holes. At the forth step, blobs are analysed to extracts tor foreground region. Then, motions are predicted from these images by using optical tlow technique, and the predicted motion data are refined by comparing our cardboard models so as to judge behavior pattern.

  • Three-dimensional(3D) motion analysis is a useful tool for analyzing sports performance. During the last few decades, advances in motion analysis equipment have enabled us to perform more and more complicated biomechanical analyses. Nevertheless, considering the complexity of biomechanical models and the amount of data recorded from the motion analysis system, subsequent processing of these data is required for event-specific motion analysis. The purpose of this study was to develop a basic golf swing analysis algorithm using a state-of-the-art VICON motion analysis system. The algorithm was developed to facilitate golf swing analysis, with special emphasis on 3D motion analysis and high-speed motion capture, which are not easily available from typical video camera systems. Furthermore, the developed algorithm generates golf swing-specific kinematic and kinetic variables that can easily be used by golfers and coaches who do not have advanced biomechanical knowledge. We provide a basic algorithm to convert massive and complicated VICON data to common golf swing-related variables. Future development is necessary for more practical and efficient golf swing analysis.

  • Generally cam-follower systems consist of two elements: Cam is for rotating motion and follower for reciprocating motion. Depending on the shape of cam and type of follower, the motion of cam-follower system is determined. Thus design process and analysis process must be well defined. The design process means to find the coordinates of cam shape which can be defined the given motion of follower and the analysis process means to determine the motion curve of follower corresponding to the given cam based on the dimensions of a cam-follower system. This paper consists of two parts : One is for development of a numerical method for design and analysis of cam-follower systems, the other is for development of a CAD program and its application. As the second part of the paper, the structure of a CAD program is introduced. Four data files are used in the program where the design process and the analysis process are carried out interactively to en hence its availability to the industrial applications. The first part of the paper 'presents the iterative contact method which can determine the contact points and their angles between cam and roller.

  • For a vision-based driver assistance system, unusual motion detection is one of the important means of preventing accidents. In this paper, we propose a real-time unusual-motion-detection model, which contains two stages: salient region detection and unusual motion detection. In the salient-region-detection stage, we present an improved temporal attention model. In the unusual-motion-detection stage, three kinds of factors, the speed, the motion direction, and the distance, are extracted for detecting unusual motion. A series of experimental results demonstrates the proposed method and shows the feasibility of the proposed model.

  • The ring laser gyro(RLG) has been used extensively in strapdown inertial navigation system(SDINS) because of the apparent of having wide dynamic range, digital output and high accuracy. The dithered RLG system has dynamic motion at sensor level, caused by the dithering motion to overcome the lock-in threshold. In this case, an attitude error is produced by not only the true coning of the vehicle motion but also the pseudo coning of the sensor motion. This paper describes the definition of the multi-frequency coning motion and its noncommutativity error to reject the pseudo coning error produced by the sensor motion such as the dithered RLG. The simulation results are presented to minimize the multi-frequency coning error.

  • This paper proposes an intuitive real-time robot control system using human body movement. Recently, it has been developed that motion generation for humanoid robots with reflecting human body movement, which is measured by a motion capture. However, in the existing studies about robot control system by human body movement, the detailed structure information of a robot, for example, degrees of freedom, the range of motion and forms, must be examined in order to calculate inverse kinematics. In this study, we have proposed Associative Motion Generation as humanoid robot motion generation method which does not need the detailed structure information. The associative motion generation system is composed of two neural networks: nonlinear principal component analysis and Jordan recurrent neural network, and the associative motion is generated with the following three steps. First, the system learns the correspondence relationship between an indication and a motion using training data. Second, associative values are extracted for associating a new motion from an unfamiliar indication using nonlinear principal component analysis. Last, the robot generates a new motion through calculation by Jordan recurrent neural network using the associative values. In this paper, we propose a real-time humanoid robot control system based on Associative Motion Generation, that enables user to control motion intuitively by human body movement. Through the task processing and subjective evaluation experiments, we confirmed the effective usability and affective evaluations of the proposed system.

  • In this paper, a recursive formulation for generating the equations of motion of spatial mechanical systems is presented. The rigid bodies are replaced by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles which avoids introducing any rotational coordinates. For the open-chain system, the equations of motion are generated recursively along the serial chains using the concepts of linear and angular momenta Closed-chain systems are transformed to open-chain systems by cutting suitable kinematic joints and introducing cut-joint constraints. The formulation is used to carry out the dynamic analysis of multi-link five-point suspension. The results of the simulation demonstrate the generality and simplicity of the proposed dynamic formulation.

  • Recently, smart lighting systems are the combination between sensors and lights. These systems turn on/off and adjust the brightness of lights based on the motion of object and the brightness of environment. These systems are often applied in places such as buildings, rooms, garages and parking lot. However, these lighting systems are controlled by lighting sensors, motion sensors based on illumination environment and motion detection. In this paper, we propose an automatic lighting control system using one single camera for buildings, rooms and garages. The proposed system is one integration the results of digital image processing as motion detection, hand gesture detection to control and dim the lighting system. The experimental results showed that the proposed system work very well and could consider to apply for automatic lighting spaces.

  • Regarding efficient development of computer graphic animations, lots of techniques for editing or transforming existing motion data have been developed. Basically, the motion transformation techniques follow optimization process. To make the animation be natural, almost all the techniques utilize kinematics and dynamics in constructing constraints for the optimization. Since the kinematic and dynamic structures of virtual characters to be animated are very complex, the most time-consuming part is known to the optimization process. In order to suggest some guide lines to engineers involved in the motion transformation, in this paper, we analyze the computational complexities for typical motion transformation in quantitative manner as well as the possibility for parallel computation.

  • Remotely Operated Vehicle of 6000-meters is a new conceptual equipment made to replace the manned systems for investigating the deep-sea environment, and all of the ROV systems in operational condition strongly depend on the connecting cables. In this point of view dynamics of the ROV cable system is very important for operational and safety aspects as a cable generally encounters great tension. Researches have been executed on this problem, and most of papers have been mainly focused on the operational condition of ROV system in deep sea. This paper presents the dynamic cable response analysis during ROV launching condition rather than the operational one in order to provide the design guide of a ROV cable system in this circumstance, considering the coupling effects between cable and wave-induced ship motion. To obtain the variations of cable tensions during a ROV launching, a pre-stressed harmonic response analysis was carried out. Wave-induced tensions of the cable during ROV launching were obtained in real sea states using FE modeling, and the basic design guide of a ROV cable system was obtained.
