  • This study examines the prati fashion style. prati fashion refers to a practical fashion, the most sought-after trend and newest fashion concept. This trend emerged as a response to the trio of minimalism, the recent economic downturn and the modern life style, and has led to powerful fashion lines and items. Therefore, this study is to understand and analyze the prati fashion style, with its focus on the 2010 modern fashion collection that embodied functional, economic, and minimal styles. First, the functional style realized by new materials provides comfort and allows multi-style changes. Second, the minimal style adds detailed changes to minimal silhouettes. Finally the economic style means easy to wear and easy to match items at affordable prices. The analyses stated above found that the prati fashion brought about a new paradigm to society, and influenced social, cultural and economic aspects of our daily life. It also helped find solutions to economic problems of this era. Drawing global attention, the prati fashion has functional, design and economic values, and thereby influences the shift of market paradigm.

  • Recent advances in linear programming solution methodology have focused on interior point methods. This powerful new class of methods achieves significant reductions in computer time for large linear programs and solves problems significantly larger than previously possible. These methods can be examined from points of Fiacco and McCormick's barrier method, Lagrangian duality, Newton's method, and others. This study presents a primal-dual log barrier algorithm of interior point methods for linear programming. The primal-dual log barrier method is currently the most efficient and successful variant of interior point methods. This paper also addresses a Cholesky factorization method of symmetric positive definite matrices arising in interior point methods. A special structure of the matrices, called supernode, is exploited to use computational techniques such as direct addressing and loop-unrolling. Two dense matrix handling techniques are also presented to handle dense columns of the original matrix A. The two techniques may minimize storage requirement for factor matrix L and a smaller number of arithmetic operations in the matrix L computation.

  • This study is to explore the '60s 'Retro' trend appeared in the 2003/2004 Fall & Winter Pret-a-porter Collections which was held in the 4 major cities, Paris, Milan, London, New York on the February and March of the last year. It is often said that the '60s Retro trend is one of the most powerful fashion trends in the 2003/2004 season, and it really affects the modem fashion market nowadays. From this study, we can find that the '60s fashion mode certainly contains the 5 formative characteristics such as Minimal Look, Pop Art Fashion, Op Art Fashion, Space-Age Look, Femme-Enfant Style, and following these 5 characteristics of the '60s fashion mode the retrospective trend can be developed to finally create the '60s Retro Look presented in the 2003/2004 F/W Pret-a-porter Collections.

  • Among the Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices, Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is considered as the most powerful and versatile one as it provides simultaneous, real time control of the transmission parameters, voltages, impedances, and phase angles which determine the power flow in AC transmission systems. This paper presents modelling of UPFC and describes its characteristics. The UPFC implemented in this paper is based on Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP)/ATPDraw is used to model and analyze it. The simulation results confirm advantages of UPFC in operational performance with respect to the steady state Power flow regulation and the transient stability control.

  • Power transmission lines are one of the most important components of electric power system. Failures in the operation of power transmission lines can result in serious power system problems. Hence, fault diagnosis (transient or permanent) in power transmission lines is very important to ensure the reliable operation of the power system. A hidden Markov model (HMM), a powerful pattern recognizer, classifies events in a probabilistic manner based on fault signal waveform and characteristics. This paper presents application of HMM to classify faults in overhead power transmission lines. The algorithm uses voltage samples of one-fourth cycle from the inception of the fault. The simulation performed in EMTPWorks and MATLAB environments validates the fast response of the classifier, which provides fast and accurate protection scheme for power transmission lines.

  • Numerous methodologies have been developed in an effort to reduce cogging torque. However, most of these methodologies have side effects that limit their applications. One approach is the optimization methodology that determines an optimized design variable within confined conditions. The response surface methodology (RSM) and the genetic algorithm (GA) are powerful instruments for such optimizations and are matters of common interest. However, they have some weaknesses. Generally, the RSM cannot accurately describe an object function, whereas the GA is time consuming. The current paper describes a novel GA and RSM hybrid algorithm that overcomes these limitations. The validity of the proposed algorithm was verified by three test functions. Its application was performed on a surface-mounted permanent magnet.

  • During the past two decades or so, fractional integral inequalities have proved to be one of the most powerful and far-reaching tools for the development of many branches of pure and applied mathematics. Very recently, many authors have presented some generalized inequalities involving the fractional integral operators. Here, using the pathway fractional integral operator, we give some presumably new and potentially useful fractional integral inequalities whose special cases are shown to yield corresponding inequalities associated with Riemann-Liouville type fractional integral operators. Relevant connections of the results presented here with those earlier ones are also pointed out.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop and validate an instructional design model from the perspective of the knowledge creation. To serve the purpose, the researcher conducted 1) literature review to find causal relationship model among knowledge creation factors and to propose a hypothetical instructional design model, 2) data analysis with 50 senior level e-Learning instructional designers, and 3) testing the fitness of the proposed model and relevant causal-relational hypotheses. Results indicate; 1) the proposed model fit to the empirical evidence, 2) 6 hypotheses among 11 were validated. A typical instructional designer's personal competency was evidenced as the most powerful independent variable that predicted knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, and the application of the instructional models. However, the expected effect of instructional design models toward other dependent variable was not be found. In addition, further suggestions for the future research are addressed.

  • This paper aims to provide an introduction to junior authors on how to write a medical paper in a clearer and more scientific manner. One important thing to be always remembered is that the reviewer and the reader will be reading your paper for the first time, and thus, you should make it as lucid as possible. You should pay attention to consistency in every regard in your paper. Use of the active voice usually makes the sentences shorter and clearer in meaning. Organize your content carefully and present it logically, avoiding unnecessary repetition in different sections. Give a diligent thought to every aspect; research is a work of the mind, not of the hands. Write technically, using powerful language. Most importantly, fulfill the exact submission requirements of the journal.

  • Testing normality is very important because the most common assumption is normality in statistical analysis. We propose a new plot and test statistic to goodness-of-fit test for normality based on the generalized Lorenz curve. We compare the new plot with the Q-Q plot. We also compare the new test statistic with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS), Cramer-von Mises (CVM), Anderson-Darling (AD), Shapiro-Francia (SF), and Shapiro-Wilks (W) test statistic in terms of the power of the test through by Monte Carlo method. As a result, new plot is clearly classified normality and non-normality than Q-Q plot; in addition, the new test statistic is more powerful than the other test statistics for asymmetrical distribution. We check the proposed test statistic and plot using Hodgkin's disease data.
