Major solar eruptive events, consisting of both a large flare and a near simultaneous fast coronal mass ejection (CME), are the most powerful explosions in the solar system, releasing $10^{32}-10^{33}$ ergs in ${\sim}10^{3-4}\;s$. They are also the most powerful and energetic particle accelerators, producing ions up to tens of GeV and electrons up to hundreds of MeV. For flares, the accelerated particles often contain up to ~50% of the total energy released, a remarkable efficiency that indicates the particle acceleration is intimately related to the energy release process. Similar transient energy release/particle acceleration processes appear to occur elsewhere in the universe, in stellar flares, magnetars, etc. Escaping solar energetic particles (SEPs) appear to be accelerated by the shock wave driven by the fast CME at altitudes of ~1 40 $R_s$, with an efficiency of ~10%, about what is required for supernova shock waves to produce galactic cosmic rays. Thus, large solar eruptive events are our most accessible laboratory for understanding the fundamental physics of transient energy release and particle acceleration in cosmic magnetized plasmas. They also produce the most extreme space weather - the escaping SEPs are a major radiation hazard for spacecraft and humans in space, the intense flare photon emissions disrupt GPS and communications on the Earth, while the fast CME restructures the interplanetary medium with severe effects on the magnetospheres and atmospheres of the Earth and other planets. Here I review present observations of large solar eruptive events, and future space and ground-based measurements needed to understand the fundamental processes involved.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of children's self-regulation and teacher-child relationships on children's social behaviors. Participants were 239 4- to 5-year-old children(114 boys, 125 girls) and their 23 teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure children's social behaviors and teacher-child relationships. Children's self-regulation was assessed by a mother reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlations and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major results of this study were as follows: First, Children's social behaviors were partially correlated with children's self-regulation and teacher-child relationships. Second, The most influential factor by children's social behaviors was teacher-child relationship. Specially, teacher-child intimacy was the most powerful factor predicting children's asocial behavior and prosocial behavior. While teacher-child conflict was the most powerful factor influencing children's aggressive behavior, hyperactive-distractible behavior and anxious-fearful behavior. Findings are discussed in terms of the importance of teacher-child relationships in the context of program development and guidance for maladjusted children.
Purpose: This study was to identify factors that influence the organizational commitment and job satisfaction of nurses. Method: The data were collected from 1st, August until 7th, August, 2005. Purpose: To investigate the factors influencing health promoting behavior in college students and to provide a basic data for developing an effective health promotion program. Method: The subjects were 711 college students living in Jecheon city and were selected using a convenience sampling method. The instruments used in this study included the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile developed by Walker et al.(987). Perceived Health Status developed by Lawston et al. (1982). Self-Esteem scale developed by Rosenberg(1965), Self-Efficacy scale developed by Becker et al. (1993), and Health Locus of Control developed by Wallston et a1.(1978). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/WIN program. Results: I) The mean score of health promoting behavior was 2.39 point out of 4. In terms of sub-domains of health promoting behavior, self-actualization(2.78) showed the highest mean score, followed by interpersonal support(2.75), stress management(2.38), nutrition(2.11), exercise(2.04), and health responsibility (1.97). 2) The health promoting behavior had significantly positive correlations with self-efficacy, powerful others health locus of control, internal health locus of control, chance health locus of control, and perceived health status. 3) In the relationship between general characteristics and health promoting behavior, health promoting behavior was significantly different by gender(t=2.17, p=.03), and financial status of parents (F=10.79. p= .00). 4) The most powerful predictor of health promoting behavior was self-efficacy. A combination of self-efficacy, self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control, and sex accounted for 40.4% of the total variance in health promoting behavior. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that health responsibility and exercise were the domains where the college student showed relatively lower scores than other domains, self-efficacy was the most important predictor of health promoting behavior. Therefore, it is suggested that health promoting programs should focus on health responsibility, and exercise. Nursing strategies that can enhance self-efficacy should also be developed in order to promote healthy lifestyles in college students.
This paper is to examine relative explaining power of socio-demographic variables, life style variables, environmental education, and environmental consciousness on the environmental behavior of housewives. Major results were as follows : As for life style, there different types such as socio-oriented, spare-life, fashion-oriented were examined. Spare-life style was most pervasive on Seoulite housewives. And spare-life style was emerged when housewives ages were old, education level was low, household income was low, hose type was Life-style were most influencing variables on environmental behavior. And environmental education was more powerful variables than environmental consciousness.
Ensemble method has been known as one of the most powerful classification tools that can improve prediction accuracy. Ensemble method also has been understood as ‘perturb and combine’ strategy. Many studies have tried to develop ensemble methods by improving perturbation. In this paper, we propose two new ensemble methods that improve combining, based on the idea of pattern matching. In the experiment with simulation data and with real dataset, the proposed ensemble methods peformed better than bagging. The proposed ensemble methods give the most accurate prediction when the pruned tree was used as the base learner.
This study aimed to investigate the influence of mother's responsive/restrictive parenting and peer attachment on academic stress in school-aged boys and girls. The participants were 493 5th, 6th graders from five elementary schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province. The collected data were analyzed through a t-test, multiple regression, hierarchial regression using SPSS Win 19.0. The results are as follows. (1) Level of academic stress of school-aged girls was higher than boys. (2) Responsive parenting of mothers was the most powerful explanation in academic stress of school-aged boys. However restrictive parenting of mothers was the most powerful explanation in academic stress of school-aged girls. (3) In boys, responsive parenting of mothers influenced their academic stress but peer attachment didn't influence the boys academic stress. In girls, responsive parenting of mothers and peer attachment influenced their academic stress, and interaction effects of responsive parenting of mothers and peer attachment on academic stress was observed. (4) Both boys and girls, restrictive parenting of mothers and peer attachment had influences on academic stress. And interaction effects of responsive parenting of mothers and peer attachment on academic stress was not observed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing college students' health promotion lifestyle. Methods: The subject was 606 students. Statistical analysis with SPSS used descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and Stepwise Multiple Regression. Results: The average item score for health promotion lifestyle was 2.58. The subscale showing the highest score was interpersonal relationship (3.03), which was followed by spiritual growth (2.94). stress management (2.54), nutrition (2.52), physical activity (2.16) and health responsibility (2.15). There were significant differences according to age, gender, BMI, perceived health state, religion, economic state, live together, major and health promotion lifestyle. The most powerful Predictors of health promotion lifestyle were the prior related behavior (51.8%) and self-efficacy (7.7%). The combination of prior related behavior, perceived self-efficacy, activity-related affect, social support, perceived stress, commitment to a plan of action accounted for 67.9% of the variance of health promotion lifestyle. Conclusion: Prior related behavior was the most powerful variable of health promotion lifestyle. Therefore, health promotion programs for changing and maintaining prior related behavior and increasing self-efficacy should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle in college students.
