We have constructed a wide-field photometric survey system called as the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) in 2015. It consists of three 1.6 m optical telescopes equipped with mosaic CCD cameras. Four 9k CCDs were installed on the focal plane of each telescope. In this paper, we present the crosstalk analysis of the KMTNet mosaic CCD images. The crosstalk victims caused by bright sources were visible at eight sub-images obtained through different readout ports of each CCD. The crosstalk coefficients were estimated to be several tens of $10^{-4}$ in maximum, differing from sub-image to sub-image, and the non-linearity effect certainly appeared at the victims made from saturated sources. We developed software functions to correct the crosstalk effect of the KMTNet CCD images. The software functions showed satisfying results to remove clearly most of the crosstalk victims and have been implemented in the KMTNet image processing pipeline since 2015 September.
Image mosaicking is one of the basic and important technologies in the field of application using images. The key of image mosaicking is to extract seamlines from a joint image. The method proposed in this paper for image mosaicking is as follows. The feature points of the images to be joined are extracted and the joining form between the two images is identified. A reference position for detection the seamlines were selected according to the joint form, and an image pyramid was created for efficient image processing. The outlines of the image including buildings and roads are extracted from the overlapping area with low resolution, and the seamlines are determined by considering the components of the outlines. Based on this, the seamlines in the high-resolution image was re-searched and finally the seamline for image mosaicking was determined. In addition, in order to minimize color distortion of the image with the determined seamline, a method of improving the quality of the mosaic image by fine correction of the mosaic area was applied. It was confirmed that the quality of the seamline extraction results applying the method proposed was reasonable.
In this paper, we propose an automatic method which combines two or more images acquired by camera on the air-vehicle into a larger image mosaics. The shift, scaling, rotation factors between two images can be calculated by using the correspondences between the points of the images. In order to estimate these factors, we find the relative positions of two images with respect to each other by using the SIFT descriptor and the RANSAC algorithm. After estimating the factors, the images can be merged into a single image mosaic by warping the target image. To avoid seams when mosaics are constructed from overlapped images, we apply the average gray level value of points within a overlapped zone. We have tested our proposed method on various image sets and have confirmed that our method produced good result subjectively.
In this paper, we propose the new face detection and tracking angorithm in sequential images which have complex background. In order to apply face deteciton algorithm efficently, we convert the conventional RGB coordiantes into CIE coordonates and make the input images insensitive to luminace. And human face shapes and colors are learned using ueural network's backpropagation. For variable face size, we make mosaic size of input images vary and get the face location with various size through neural network. Besides, in sequential images, we suggest face motion tracking algorithm through image substraction processing and thresholding. At this time, for accurate face tracking, we use the face location of previous. image. Finally, we verify the real-time applicability of the proposed algorithm by the simple simulation.
We present the results of an H I aperture synthesis mosaic of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), made by combining data from 1344 separate pointing centers using the Australia Telescope Compact' Array (ATCA) and the Parkes multibeam receiver. The resolution of the mosaiced images is 50" (<15 pc, using a distance to the LMC of 55kpc). This mosaic, with a spatial resolution .15 times higher than that which had been previously obtained, emphasises the turbulent and fractal structure of the ISM on the small scale, resulting from the dynamical feedback of the star formation processes with the ISM. We also have done a widefield panoramic survey of H$\alpha$ emission from the Magellanic Clouds with an imager mounted on the 16-inch telescope at Siding Spring Observatory. This survey produced H$\alpha$ images which are equal to the ATCA survey in area coverage and resolution. This survey allows us to produce a continuum-subtracted image of the entire LMC. In contrast with its appearance in the H$\alpha$ image, the LMC is remarkably symmetric in H I on the largest scales, with the bulk of the H I residing in a disk of diameter 8. $^{\circ}4$ (7.3 kpc) and a spiral structure is clearly seen. The structure of the neutral atomic ISM in the LMC is dominated by H I filaments combined with numerous shells and holes.
In this paper, for recognize a night pedestrian from an infrared video, a new method differentiated from the existing feature vector is proposed and experimented. The new approach focuses on the shape feature vector of the structure and shape of the pedestrian image divided by the human body seven split ratio. The pedestrian images are divided into 7 square blocks from the still image of the preprocessing process. And to reduce the dimension, the square block is converted into a mosaic block. The scalar and direction of the shape feature vector is calculated by the brightness and position of the element in the mosaic. For practicality of infrared video system, the proposed method simplifies the data to be processed by reducing the amount of data in the preprocessing in order to continuously batch process the entire system in real time. Through the experiments, we verified the validity of the proposed shape feature vector. In comparison to the existing method, we propose a new shape feature vector generation method as the feature vector for night pedestrian recognition.
The urbanization of Korea has been rapidly progressed since 1960. Current available satellite images used in various fields are obtained after 1975. The CORONA Image data declassified in 1995, and are the only source of image which provide 1960's topographic information of the Korean Peninsula. In this sense CORONA imagery can be readily applicable for change detection in various fields such as urban, forest and environmental planning. To generate CORONA mosaic image of Korea we undertook comparative analysis of the various geocoding methods. We also applied the linear regression method to perform the radiometric balance between the strips.
Vibration measurement using image processing is a fully non-contact measurement method and has many application fields. The resolution of vibration data measured by image processing depends on the camera performance and is lower than that measured by accelerometers. This work discusses the method to increase resolution of vibration signal measured by image processing based on the image mosaic technique with a high-power lens. The working principle of resolution enhancement was explained theoretically and verified by several experiments. It was shown that the proposed method can measure vibrations of relatively large scale structures with increased resolutions.
