A Characteristic Value Extraction Method for Content-Based Image Retrieval using Morphological Spatial Frequency

  • A novel characteristic value extraction method based on morphological spatial frequency is proposed. Morphological spatial frequency defined by morphological pattern distribution function is introduced. Superiority of the method was proved for various images by experiment. Furthermore the fact that the proposed method does not need threshold to obtain binary image provides its applicability to content-based image retrieval.

  • New morphological positioning algorithm and inspection method are presented and compared with a method by means of the Hough transform. The positioning algorithm is the process of finding the center and the rotated angle of the surface mounted device (SMD). The inspection method is capable of detecting the location of broken or bent leads. In order to obtain the center and the orientation of the SMD rapidly, the Hough transform method utilizes feature points (concave points) and is executed on a DSP board. The proposed morphological method is implemented by using the morphological skeleton subsets, and an ultimate orientation is decided by the Hit-or-Miss transform (HMT). In the inspection process, two inspection methods also are presented. The first method utilizes the morphological methods, i.e., opening and closing. It is performed before the positioning process and called an initial inspection. The second method follows the positioning process and is performed by an inspection of intersections of rulers and the lead edge (or the skeleton). It is a ruling technique which is referred to as a detailed inspection. We find the morphological approach is preciser and faster than the Hough approach by the comparison of the proposed algorithms.

  • This study is aimed to be helpful a developing process for Apparel design and to investigate Idea abduction for Apparel Design which applied to the Morphological Method one of the Methods of Creativity which the creative technologists studied. The result of this study were as follows : 1. The Morphological Method which is one of the Methods of Creativity could be applied to Idea abduction for Apparel Design by CAD system. 2. This study developed a program for CAD system which could use the design process for Apparel Design applied to the Morphological Method 3. In the consequence of the program which could use the design developing process of Morphological Method, and trying to test with the selection of the essential variables about Jacket, Skirt, One-piece, Blouse, it is found that many design for Apparel Design could be producted in a short time, so that the conclusion have been made as a result that the Method could be a great help to design a variable sillouette for Apparel Design.

  • One approach for very high speed korean morphological analysis is to use pre-built morphological results in dictionary. It pays the high cost to build this morphological pattern dictionary manually, besides the dictionary may contain errors. This paper proposes a method to generate morphological patterns automatically using Korean morphological synthesis. The experiment shows that we automatically generate 86% morphological patterns for analyzing Korean sentences. It takes 52.68 seconds for the morphological system using the patterns to analyze 403MB Korean corpus on 2.8GHz Window system.

  • In this paper we propose fast real-time hardwares for morphological operators using the method of decomposing gray-scale values into binary. the designed hardware is generalized not to be affected by the maximum values of structuring elements. We also propose a method of designing parallel hardware using the unit morphological hardware to deal with situations of using various sizes of structuring elements. The VHDL simulation results of the unit morphological hardwares are identical to those of theorectical operators.

  • This paper proposes a morphological analysis method that enables morphological analysis by checking conditions between two adjacent morphemes. These conditions are fed from a dictionary. This method eliminates a code conversion module and the application of transformational rules for candidate generation. The method claims that very high speed morphological analysis is attainable through simple bit operations for adjacency condition check. MACH, an implementation of the proposed method, is a supersonic Korean morphological analyzer which is able to analyze a document of 1 GB in 5 minutes on a PC with 1.13 GHz Pentium III CPU. The analysis accuracy of MACH is 99.2 %.

  • In this paper, we propose improved methods which are image conversion and extraction method of watershed seed using morphological characteristic of teeth on complement image. Conventional tooth segmentation methods are occurred low detection ratio at molar region and over, overlap segmentation owing to specular reflection and morphological feature of molars. Therefore, in order to solve the problems of the conventional methods, we propose the image conversion method and improved extraction method of watershed seed. First, the image conversion method is performed using RGB, HSI space of tooth image for to extract boundary and seed of watershed efficiently. Second, watershed seed is reconstructed using morphological characteristic of teeth. Last, individual tooth segmentation is performed using proposed seed of watershed by watershed algorithm. Therefore, as a result of comparison with marker controlled watershed algorithm and the proposed method, we confirmed higher detection ratio and accuracy than marker controlled watershed algorithm.

  • Korean is free of omission of sentence elements and modifying scope, so managing it on morphological analyzer is better than parser. In this paper, we propose functional expansion methods of the morphological analyzer to ease the burden of parsing. This method is a longest phrase matching method. When the series of several morpheme have one syntax category by processing of Unknown-words, Compound verbs, Compound nouns, Numbers and Symbols, our method combines them into a syntactic unit. And then, it is to treat by giving them a semantic features as syntax unit. The proposed morphological analysis method removes unnecessary morphological ambiguities and deceases results of morphological analysis, so improves accuracy of tagger and parser. By empirical results, we found that our method deceases 73.4% of Parsing tree and 52.4% of parsing time on average.

Automatic Detection Method for Mura Defects on Display Films Using Morphological Image Processing and Labeling

  • This paper proposes a new automatic detection method to inspect mura defects on display film surface using morphological image processing and labeling. This automatic detection method for mura defects on display films comprises 3 phases of preprocessing with morphological image processing, Gabor filtering, and labeling. Since distorted results could be obtained with the presence of non-uniform illumination, preprocessing step reduces illumination components using morphological image processing. In Gabor filtering, mura images are created with binary coded mura components using Gabor filters. Subsequently, labeling is a final phase of finding the mura defect area using the difference between large mura defects and values in the periphery. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed detection method, detection rate was assessed by applying the method in 200 display film samples. As a result, the detection rate was high at about 95.5%. Moreover, the study was able to acquire reliable results using the Semu index for luminance mura in image quality inspection.

Structural Disambiguation of Korean Adverbs Based on Correlative Relation and Morphological Context

  • This letter addresses a structural disambiguation method for Korean adverbs based on the correlative relation constraints between adverbs and modifiees, and the morphological context information of sentences. Using the proposed method, we improved the dependency parsing accuracy of adverbs from 79.2 to 89%. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is especially expert in parsing adverbs which can modify multiple word classes or have a long distance dependency relation to their modifiees.
