  • In this paper, we proposed automatic extraction of brain tumor using morphological operation and statistical tumors size in MR images. Neurosurgery have used gamma-knife therapy by MR images. However, the gamma-knife plan systems needs the brain tumor regions, because gamma-ray should intensively radiate to the brain tumor except for normal cells. Therefore, gamma-knife plan systems spend too much time on designating the tumor regions. In order to reduce the time of designation of tumors, we progress the automatical extraction of tumors using proposed method. The proposed method consist of two steps. First, the information of skull at MRI slices remove using statistical tumors size. Second, the ROI is extracted by tumor feature and average of tumors size. The detection of tumor is progressed using proposed and threshold method. Moreover, in order to compare the effeminacy of proposed method, we compared snap-shot and results of proposed method.

  • In this paper, we carried out some experiments on the Korean vowel recognition using the fractal dimension of the speech signals. We chose the Minkowski-Bouligand dimension as the fractal dimension, and computed it using the morphological covering method. For our experiments, we used both the fractal dimension and the LPC cepstrum which is conventionally known to be one of the best parameters for speech recognition, and examined the usefulness of the fractal dimension. From the vowel recognition experiments under various consonant contexts, we achieved the vowel recognition error rates of 5.6% and 3.2% for the case with only LPC cepstrum and that with both LPC cepstrum and the fractal dimension, respectively. The results indicate that the incorporation of the fractal dimension with LPC cepstrum gives more than 40% reduction in recognition errors, and indicates that the fractal dimension is a useful feature parameter for speech recognition.

  • Candida albicans has become the most important human pathogen in immunocompromised patients. One important feature of the pathogenicity in C. albicans is the morphological transition from yeast to hyphae. Previously, we reported that lysophosphatidylcholine (Lyso-PC) suppressed the hyphal transition through the MAP kinase pathway (Min et al., 2001). Therefore, it should be useful to examine the unknown genes involved in the MAP kinase pathway. As a way to identify target genes of Lyso-PC in hyphal suppression, this present study exploited two-dimensional electrophoresis. It was revealed that Lyso-PC suppressed expression of Phr1p and Pra1p, surface proteins involved in the morphogenesis.

  • This study was carried out to get basic information about the morphological and production characteristics of fennel populations different origin under different ecological conditions in Hungary. The Korean population can be registered as a medium high genotype and showed a more accelerated growth characters than Hungarian taxon and the two populations have a medium homogeneity $(CV\;=\;4{\sim}22%)$. In the second year plant height in Hungarian taxon was significantly higher than that of the Korean population. The shooting dynamic of individual plants might be heterogeneous in both taxa and the Korean population was not only shorter in the height but had also less shoots by 16% than the Hungarian one. The Hungarian taxon exceeded the umbel size and numbers to the Korean one (by 3.62 cm in the average) and the variability in the populations was high $(CV\;=\;29{\sim}49%)$. Seed size was proved to be also a discriminative feature between the examined taxa. With small deviations (CV < 2) the Hungarian population produced seeds longer by 38%. Homogeneity in the populations was dependent more on the vegetation years and on the characteristics measured but less on the origins, respectively.

  • The complete larval development of Scopimera bitympana Shen was descdbed and mustrated from the larvae reared in the lahoratory. S bItympana had five, or occasionally six, zoeal and one megalopal stages. At $25^{\circ}C$, the megalopa and the first crab instar were attained in 24 and 38 days (31 and 48 days in six zoeal series) after hatching respectively. S.bitympana zoeae can be distinguished from other described zoeae in the genus by the toothed carapace spines and the telson with a dorsal and two ventral spines. Megalopa of this species can be distinguished from other ScopimeTa spedes by the feature of carapace. Other minor morphological features of S. bitympana larvae are compared to the previous descripdons of larvae of the genus and the morphological differences are briefly discussed.

  • In this study, the PPS/ABS blend system was investigated in order to collectively identify the relationship among blend morphology, chemical compatibilization and thermal property. ABS resin was chemically modified by the incorporation of maleic anhydride through reactive extrusion for enhanced compatibilization, and PPS, ABS and the modified ABS were blend by a sing twin screw extruder. The effect of chemical modification of ABS on the morphological, mechanical, and thermal properities of the resulting blend was examined. A strong interaction was observed between PPS and MABS by optical microsopy as well as scanning electron microscopy, exhibiting a well-dispersed morphological feature. The PPS/MABS blend showing a single glass transition temperature was observed in dynamic mechanical analysis, demonstrating a pseudo-homogeneous phase morphology induced by chemical compatibilization. PPS/MABS blend also exhibited an enhanced thermal stability and heat distortion temperature compared with modified PPS/ABS blend.

  • In the most of recognizing systems of hand-written numbers. extraction of feature shape by using character elements shapes and a method of morphological analysis by using then extraction of feature shapes were usually used. In this paper, however, peculiar chain-code is used, and differential code which gets minimal value by differentiating the chain-code which is generated by the peculiar chain-code is made. We found this differential code is very successful in discriminating hand-written numbers according to the result of applying to most of the hand-written numbers. Testing recognition of hand-written numbers by HMM network. From the results, we can recognize of 96.1 percentage hand-written numbers but can not recognize extremely distorted hand-written numbers.

  • Change Detection is a useful technology that can be applied to various fields, taking temporal change information with the comparison and analysis among multi-temporal satellite images. Especially, Change Detection that utilizes high-resolution satellite imagery can be implemented to extract useful change information for many purposes, such as the environmental inspection, the circumstantial analysis of disaster damage, the inspection of illegal building, and the military use, which cannot be achieved by low- or middle-resolution satellite imagery. However, because of the special characteristics that result from high-resolution satellite imagery, it cannot use a pixel-based method that is used for low-resolution satellite imagery. Therefore, it must be used a feature-based algorithm based on the geographical and morphological feature. This paper presents the system that builds the change map by digitizing the boundary of the changed object. In this system, we can make the change map using manual or semi-automatic digitizing through the user interface implemented with a floating window that enables to detect the sign of the change, such as the construction or dismantlement, more efficiently.

  • In this paper, we present a dictionary learning method for reducing errors in point cloud models and reconstructing their geometry. For this, 3D feature information is extracted from the models which have a similar shape characteristic as the target model. Then a dictionary is constructed and the geometry is reconstructed using the dictionary. The presented method in this paper consists of the following three steps. First, a geometric patch is constructed from a similar model. Second, a morphological 3D feature of the acquired patch is learned. Third, a geometry reconstruction is performed using the learned dictionary. Finally, the error between the original model and the reconstruction result is calculated, and the accuracy of the reconstruction result is checked.

  • To improve classification accuracy in this paper, we proposed an algorithm for the chromosome image reconstruction in the image preprocessing part and also proposed the pattern classification method using the hierarchical multilayer neural network(HMNN) to classify the chromosome karyotype. It reconstructed chromosome images for twenty normal human chromosome by the image reconstruction algorithm. The four morphological and ten density feature parameters were extracted from the 920 reconstructed chromosome images. The each combined feature parameters of ten human chromosome images were used to learn HMNN and the rest of them were used to classify the chromosome images. The experimental results in this paper were composed to optimized HMNN and also obtained about 98.26% to recognition ratio.
