The crinoid specimens of the genus Anneissia were collected from Nokdong, Korea Strait, and Moseulpo, Jeju Island. The specimens were identified as Anneissia pinguis (A.H. Clark, 1909), which belongs to the family Comatulidae of the order Comatulida. Anneissia pinguis was first described by A.H. Clark in 1909 around southern Japan. This species can be distinguished from other Anneissia species by a longish and stout cirrus, much fewer arms, and short distal cirrus segments. The morphological features of Korean specimens are as follows: large disk (20-35 mm), 28-36 segments and 32-43 mm length cirrus, division series in all 4 (3+4), very stout and strong distal pinnule with 18-19 comb and 40 arms. In Korea fauna, only three species of genus Anneissia were recorded: A. intermedia, A. japonica, and A. solaster. In this study, we provide the morphological description and phylogenetic analysis based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit I.

In this paper we present a generalized directional morphological filtering algorithm for the removal of impulse noise, which is based on a combination of impulse noise detection and a weighted rank-order morphological filtering technique. For salt (or pepper) noise suppression, the generalized directional opening (or closing) filtering of the input signal is selectively used. The detection of impulse noise can be done by the geometrical difference of opening and closing filtering. Simulations show that this new filter has better detail feature preservation with effective noise reduction compared to other nonlinear filtering techniques.

Speckle noise reduction for ultrasound CT image using morphological adaptive median filtering based on edge preservation is presented in this paper. Speckle noise is multiplicative feature and causes ultrasound image to degrade widely from transducer. An input image is classified into edge region and homogeneous region in preprocessing. The speckle is reduced by morphological operation on the 2D gray scale by using convolution and correlation, and edges are preserved. The adaptive median is processed to reduce an impulse noise. As the result the proposed method enhances the image to about 20% in comparison with Winer filter by Edge Preservation Index and PSNR.

This paper describes the method for detecting vehicles in the rear and rear-side at night by using headlight features. A headlight is the outstanding feature that can be used to discriminate a vehicle from a dark background. In the segmentation process, a night image is transformed to a binary image that consists of black background and white regions by gray-level thresholding, and noise in the binary image is eliminated by a morphological operation. In the feature extraction process, the geometric features and moment invariant features of a headlight are defined, and they are measured in each segmented region. Regions that are not appropriate to a headlight are filtered by using geometric feature measurement. In region classification, a pair of headlights is detected by using relational features based on the symmetry of a pair of headlights. Experimental results show that this method is very applicable to an approaching vehicle detection system at nighttime.
Baeja(背子), which was excavated from the tomb of Sim, Su-ryun(沈秀崙, 1534-1589), a civil official, has a distinctive pattern. Two rectangles are connected by button knots on both shoulders and below the armpits, and surround the front and back of the upper body. Also, the back is shorter than the front, while the center-front is not opened. It also has a round neckline without a collar. Jeojuji(楮注紙), which is a traditional Korean paper made from mulberry bark, is put between the outer shell and lining of this clothing as an interlining. The purpose of this study is to perform a morphological feature analysis of the Baeja to examine its characteristics and name, and clothes with similar features, attire relic, pictorial and ceramic materials as well as precedent studies were used in the analysis. The Baeja, which was excavated from the tomb of Sim, Su-ryun, has the same pattern as Yangdang(裲檔), which was worn in the ancient northern region and China. Its composition and the way it was worn are very simple. Also, the shorter back length can be used as evidence that it was worn as everyday outer clothing, and not in a ceremony. Jeojuji, used as an interlining, made it easy to sew and maintain attire pattern and played a role of maintaining warmth. Therefore, this Baeja is presumed to be an outer clothing simply worn in the everyday life for convenience and warmth. In regards to its morphological feature, it was most likely a Yangdang in Joseon Dynasty.

New morphological positioning algorithm and inspection method are presented and compared with a method by means of the Hough transform. The positioning algorithm is the process of finding the center and the rotated angle of the surface mounted device (SMD). The inspection method is capable of detecting the location of broken or bent leads. In order to obtain the center and the orientation of the SMD rapidly, the Hough transform method utilizes feature points (concave points) and is executed on a DSP board. The proposed morphological method is implemented by using the morphological skeleton subsets, and an ultimate orientation is decided by the Hit-or-Miss transform (HMT). In the inspection process, two inspection methods also are presented. The first method utilizes the morphological methods, i.e., opening and closing. It is performed before the positioning process and called an initial inspection. The second method follows the positioning process and is performed by an inspection of intersections of rulers and the lead edge (or the skeleton). It is a ruling technique which is referred to as a detailed inspection. We find the morphological approach is preciser and faster than the Hough approach by the comparison of the proposed algorithms.
The paper proposes a novel gait recognition algorithm based on feature fusion of gait energy image (GEI) dynamic region and Gabor, which consists of four steps. First, the gait contour images are extracted through the object detection, binarization and morphological process. Secondly, features of GEI at different angles and Gabor features with multiple orientations are extracted from the dynamic part of GEI, respectively. Then averaging method is adopted to fuse features of GEI dynamic region with features of Gabor wavelets on feature layer and the feature space dimension is reduced by an improved Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA). Finally, the vectors of feature fusion are input into the support vector machine (SVM) based on multi classification to realize the classification and recognition of gait. The primary contributions of the paper are: a novel gait recognition algorithm based on based on feature fusion of GEI and Gabor is proposed; an improved KPCA method is used to reduce the feature matrix dimension; a SVM is employed to identify the gait sequences. The experimental results suggest that the proposed algorithm yields over 90% of correct classification rate, which testify that the method can identify better different human gait and get better recognized effect than other existing algorithms.

It is known as a difficult problem to recognize text-background mixed documents. In this paper a new string extraction algorithm, using mathematical morphology for the document consisting of text and overlapped periodic background pattern, is proposed. The algorithm consists of pattern periodicity feature extraction and background removal. The extracted pattern periodicity feature is used to determine the shape of structuring elements for morphological pre- and post-processing to remove background. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm over the existing one is also verified through the experiments with various test documents.
We propose an approach to extract and to classify facial features into some classes from one's photo as prepared classification standards to generate one's avatar. Facial Feature Extraction and Classification was executed at eyes, nose, lips, jaw separately and I presented each facial features and classification standards. Extracted Facial Features are used for calculation to features of professional designer's facial component images. Then, most similar facial component images are mapped onto avatar's vector face.

The population of highly prolific, predatory Asterias amurensis is growing sharply from year to year along the coastline of Korea, a nation surrounded by water on three sides. To make matters worse, the fact that Asterias amurensis devours living fish and shellfish has caused a heavy loss for fishermen involved in the aquaculture industry. What it all boils down to is the significance of technologies allowing one to recognize Asterias amurensis individuals using underwater images for the purpose of exterminating Asterias amurensis or identifying a change in the population of Asterias amurensis or the migration route of Asterias amurensis. An improved Asterias amurensis recognition method based on the morphological characteristics of Asterias amurensis was proposed in this paper. The proposed recognition method aimed at cases marked by the lack of extraction information on concaveness and convexity, which are the morphological characteristics of Asterias amurensis. Extracting all the characteristics of Asterias amurensis from images taken underwater is very difficult. In this respect, the proposed recognition is effective in terms of recognizing individuals in a diversity of Asterias amurensis images. As a result of the experiment, Our proposed method has achieved superior performance with 92.5% than other method.
