Development of Separation Algorithm of Overlapped Particles in Spay Flow (분무 유동에서 중첩 인자 분리 알고리즘의 개발)

  • Recently, fire extinguishing systems based on water mists have been attracting public attentions in marine engineering. Performance of the fire extinguishing systems is influenced by the size and distribution of spayed water mists. Droplet analyzing method based on image processing technique for measuring droplet size and distribution has been developed. The morphological method based on partial curvature information of pre-processed images was adopted for recognition and separation of overlapped particles. Tested results show that the present method may be reliable for the analysis of the size and distribution of droplets produced by water mist spay flow.

  • Relationships between biochemical phenomena and hemodynamics on human endothelial cells are very important to study the mechanism of atherosclerotic formation and development. The objective of this study is to investigate the flow phenomena around the endothelial cell model by the PIV experiment. The microscopic images of endothelial cells were acquired by a CCD camera to fabricate the shape of endothelial cell. The cell models were fabricated by using a photoforming process. Two consecutive particle images were captured by the CCD camera for the image processing. Conifer powder as the tracing particles was added to water to visualize the flow field. The cross-correlation method was applied fer the image processing of the flow visualization. Pressure and wall shear stress variations on the surfaces of the endothelial cells were calculated to investigate the effects of hemodynamic forces on the morphological changes.

Therefore, the present study has developed droplet analyzing method based on image processing. The morphological technique based on partial curvature information of pre-processed images with relaxation method was adopted for recognition and separation of overlapped particles. Tested results showed that the present method may be reliable for the analysis of the size and distribution of droplets in spray flow of fire extinguishing systems based water mists.

  • The wear particles is released from the moving surfaces in gear systems of transmission and its morphology is directly related to the damage and failure to gear system from which the particles originated. It is the effective method for damage condition estimation of automobile transmission gear to observe wear debris in gear oil. We tested with new transmission and took out gear oil according to driving distance. To be applied to damage condition of gear system in transmission of automobile,4 shape parameters of wear particles in gear oil were calculated and wear volume were presumed with the image processing system.

  • Under a continuous manufacturing process, two dimension inspection system causes problems as blurring effect and low resolution and requires position calibration between frames. One dimension inspection system is, therefore, being researched as a substitution. In this paper, we implement mechanism of switching memory and processing data for reasonable one dimension inspection system. Redundant weft image and noise was suggested to be reduced by new method using modified morphological process and masked erosion process. From resulting image, line data and possible error information were obtained and constructed as a structure. Finally, error detecting algorithm was performed with this data structure. Processing time of error detecting was 0.625ms per line in applied system and experiment showed 94.7% of error detecting ability. This method is 20% faster in speed and 2.7% higher in error detecting ability comparing with the present method.

  • The fractal dimension aims to quantitatively define the irregular characteristics of the shape in nature. It can be useful in describing morphological characteristics of various wear particles. This paper was undertaken to diagnose failure condition for sliding members in lubrication using fractal dimension. The experiments were undertaken to analyze the shape of wear particles and to diagnose failure condition for sliding members in lubrication using the image processing and the fractal parameters. It was possible to diagnose wear mechanism, friction, and damage state of machines through analysis of shape characteristics for wear particle in driven condition using fractal parameters.

  • The determination of surface morphology is believed to be extremely important in the areas of contact mechanics, adhesion and friction. In order to describe morphology of various rubbed surface, the wear test was carried out under different experimental conditions in lubricating wear. And fractal descriptors was applied to rubbed surface of hydraulic driving material with image processing system. These descriptors to analyze surface structure are fractal dimension. Surface fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. Morphology of rubbed surface can be effectively obtained by fractal dimensions.

  • EZW(Embedded coding using Zero-trees of Wavelet coefficients) decreases symbol-position information using zero-trees, but threshold value fall lot raising resolution, then coding cost of significant coefficients is expensive. To avoide this fact, this paper uses quad-tree representing coefficient-position information. a magnitude of significant coefficient is represented on matrix used at EZW. the proposed algorithm is hoped for raising a coding cost.
