  • College of Architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, US Abstract The intermittent heating and cooling energy need calculation of the ISO 13790 monthly method was examined. The current ISO 13790 method applies a reduction factor to the continuous heating and cooling need calculation result to derive the intermittent heating and cooling for each month. This paper proposes a method for the intermittent energy need calculation based on the internal mean temperature calculation. The internal temperature calculation procedure was introduced considering the heat-balance taking into account of heat gain, heat loss, and thermal inertia for reduced heating and cooling period. Then, the calculated internal mean temperature was used for the intermittent heating and cooling energy need calculation. The calculation results from the proposed method were compared to the current ISO 13790 method and validated with a dynamic simulation using EnergyPlus. The study indicates that the intermittent heating and cooling energy need calculation method using the proposed model improves transparency of the current ISO 13790 method and draws more rational outcomes in the monthly heating and cooling energy need calculation.

  • The defected baffle former bolts of Kori unit 1 were withdrawn to analyze the cause of damage and gamma-ray measurement is being scheduled. Prior to that, in order to calculate the specific radioactivity value of the baffle former bolt, a radioactivity calculation method considering the actual operation history of the nuclear power plant is introduced and the calculation results are shown. In particular, the radioactivity calculation method considering the operation history is obtained by defining the monthly contribution factor from the actual monthly operation history. As a result, the results considering operation history are 16-28% lower than the general radioactivity calculation results. These results can contribute to establish a reasonable but economical strategy when planning nuclear power plant decommissioning.

  • Generally speaking, agriculture exist in a climatic environment of uncertainty. Namely, normal rainfall value, as given by the mean values, does not exist. Thought on exists, itl does not affect like extreme Precipitation value on the part of agriculture and of others. Therefore, it is important that we measure the duration and severity index of drought caused by extreme precipitation deficit. In this purpose, this study was dealt with the calculation of drought duration and severity indexs by the method of monthly weighting coefficient. There is no quantitive definition of drought that is universally acceptable. Most of the criteria was used to identify drought have been arbitrary because a drought is a 'non-event' as opposed to a distinct event such as a flood. Therefore, confusion arises when an attempt is made to define the drought phenomenon, the calculation of duration, drought index is based on the following four fundamental question, and this study was dealt with the answers of these four questions as they related to this analytical method, as follows. First, the primary interest in this study is to be the lack of precipitation as it relates to agricultural effective rainfall. Second, the time interval was used to be month in this analysis. Third, Drought event, distinguished analytically from other event, is noted by monthly weighting coefficient method based on monthly rainfall data. Fin-ally, the seven regions used in this study have continually affected by drought on account of their rainfall deficit. The result from this method was very similar to the previous papers studied by many workers. Therefore, I think that this method is very available in Korea to identify the duration of drought, the deficit of precipitation and severity index of drought, But according to the climate of Korea exist the Asia Monsoon zone. The monthly weighting coefficient is modify a little, Because get out of 0.1-0.4 occasionally.

  • In this paper, we calculated the losses in the high voltage lines of power distribution system. The losses caused by high voltage lines are calculated using maximum current, resistance, loss factor, and dispersion loss factor. The accurate extraction of these factors are very important to calculate the losses exactly. Thus, the maximum loads are subdivided to regions and calculated monthly for more accurate maximum current calculation. Also, the composite resistance is calculated according to the ratio of the used wire types. In order to calculate the loss factor, the load factors according to the characteristics of each region were calculated. Finally, the losses of the distribution system is calculated by adding the losses by the transformers and the low voltage lines.

  • In this study, the effects of potential evapotranspiration method on drought index results were evaluated using SC-PDSI. Monthly heat index method, Penman-Monteith method, and Hargreaves equation were used as potential evapotranspiration method. SC-PDSI was calculated using three potential evapotranspiration method at 56 stations and compared the results. As a result, it was confirmed that the results by Penman-Monteith method and Hargreaves equation showed similar SC-PDSI calculation results without much difference, and the result by monthly heat index method showed a relatively large difference. It was confirmed that the results of SC-PDSI and drought situation judgment for the period of spring and winter season showed a big difference by the month. In conclusion, when calculating PDSI in Korea, using Penman-Monteith method and Hargreaves equation will be able to express the drought situation well.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existing method of calculating rainfall-runoff erosivity using monthly precipitation, such as Fournier's index, modified Fournier's index, IAS (Institute of Agricultural Sciences) index, etc., and to present more reasonable regression model based on monthly rainfall data in Korea. This study introduced a new simplified method of calculating rainfall-runoff erosivity based on monthly precipitation, called by modified IAS index. It was expanded form IAS index which is the simple calculation method by summing up the rainfall amount of two months with maximum amount. Monthly precipitation and annual rainfall-runoff erosivity at 21 weather stations for over 25 years were used to analyze correlation relationship and regression model. The result shows that modified IAS index is the more reasonable parameter for estimating rainfall-runoff erosivity of the middle-western and south-western regions in Korea.

  • Calculation of the monthly water balance for Nakdong River basin for the period from 1958 to 1968 is made by determining three components independently: precipitation, runoff and evapotranspiration. The areal precipitation is computed by the Thiessen method using the records of nine meteorological stations in the basin, and the runoff is the flow gauged at Jindong which is located on the most downstream. For the computation of evapotranspiration, the Morton method is adopted because this method is relatively fit best in the calculation of water balance among the Morton, Penman and Thornthwaite methods. The values of Morton evapotransp iration are corrected by the factor of 0.82 in the basin in order to bring the error to zero. The areal evapotranspiration is the arithmetic mean of the Morton estimates at the stations. Mean water balance components in the Nakdong river basin are 1117.0mm, 600.6mm and 516.4m for precipitation, runoff and evapotranspiration respectively. Accordingly, the mean runoff ratio comes out to be 0.54. The smallest values of runoff coefficient are due for Daegu area, while the largest ones are for the southwest of the basin with the higher rainfall and high elevations there. The amount of runoff obtained by both Thornthwaite and Budyko methods for water balance computations indicate 59 and 60 per cent of actual values which are lower than the expected. An attempt is made to find the best reliable rainfall-runoff relation among the four methods proposed by Schreiber, 01'dekop, Budyko and Sellers. The modified equation of Schreiber type for annual runoff coefficient could be obtained with the smallest mean error of 11 per cent.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare calculated pollutant loadings using pollutant load unit factors and vector type coverage, and expected mean concentration(EMC) and raster type of digital elevation model(DEM). This study is also focusing on comparison of the advantages and the disadvantages of the two methods, and seeking for a method of calculation of pollutant loadings using DEM. Estimation of pollutant inputs using pollutant load unit factors has limitations in identifying seasonal variations of pollutant loadings. Seasonal changes of runoffs should be considered in the calculation of pollutant loadings from catchments into reservoirs. Evaluation of pollutant inputs using runoff-coefficient and EMC can overcome these drawbacks. Proper EMC and runoff-coefficient values for the Koeup stream catchments of the Koheung estuarine lake were drawn from review of related papers. Arc/Info was employed to establish database of spatial and attribute data of point and non-point pollutant sources and characteristics of the catchments. ArcView was used to calculate point and non-point pollutant loadings. Pollutant loads estimated with either unit factors-coverages, i.e., pollutant load unit factors and vector coverages f point sources and land use, or EMC and digital elevation mode(DEM) were compared with stream monitoring loads. We have found that some differences were shown between monitoring results and estimated loads by Unit Factors-Coverage and EMC-DEM. Monthly variations of pollutant loads evaluated with EMC-DEM were similar to those with monitoring result. The method using EMC-DEM can calculate accumulated flows and pollutant loads and can be utilized to identify stream networks. A future research on correcting the difference between vector type stream using flow direction grid and digitalizing vector type should be conducted in order to obtain more exact calculation of pollutant loadings.
