  • The highest frequency band of wavelet decomposition band is divided into 4 equal subbands and by the minimum power of the subbands and by the monotonic transform, the level adapted threshold is obtained. The adapted threshold is applied to the soft threshold technique to denoise high and middle frequency band noise of image signals. And the results of PSNRs are compared with the results obtained by the VisuShrink technique and by the technique using the monotonic transform and the weight value. The results showed the validity of this technique.

  • The wavelet shrinkage is a technique that reduces the wavelet coefficients to minimize the MSE(Mean Square Error) between the signal and the noisy signal by making use of the threshold determined by the variance of the wavelet coefficients. In this paper, by using the monotonic transform and the power of wavelet subbands, new thresholds applicable to the high and the low frequency wavelet bands are proposed, and the thresholds are applied to the ST(soft-threshold) technique to denoise on image signals with additive Gaussian noise. And the results of PSNRs are compared with the results obtained by the VisuShrink technique and those of [15]. The results shows the validity of this technique.

  • The BAMS filter is a kind of wavelet shrinkage filter based on the Bayes estimators with no simulation, therefore it can be used for a real time filter. The denoising efficiency of BAMS filter is seriously affected by the estimated noise variance in each wavelet band. To remove noise in signals in existing BAMS filter, the noise variance is estimated by using the quartile of the finest level of details in the wavelet decomposition, and with this variance, the noise of the level is removed. In this paper, to remove the image noise includingodified quartile of the level of detail is proposed. And by these techniques, the image noises of mid and high frequency bands are removed, and the results showed that the increased PSNR of ab the midband noise, the noise variance estimation method using the monotonic transform and the mout 2[dB] and the effectiveness in denosing of low noise deviation images.

  • Fourier transform has been one of the most common tools to study the frequency characteristics of signals. With the Fourier transform alone, it is difficult to tell whether signal's frequency contents evolve in time or not. Except for a few special cases, the frequency contents of most signals encountered in the real world change with time. Time-frequency methods are developed recently to overcome the drawbacks of Fourier transform, which can represent the information of signals in time and frequency at the same time. In this study, heat damage process of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced plastic(GFRP) under monotonic tensile loading was characterized by acoustic emission. Different kinds of specimens were used to determine the characteristics of Strength and AE signals. Time-frequency analysis methods were employed for the analysis of fracture mechanism in CFRP such as matrix cracking, debonding and fiber fracture.

  • Indium oxide nanocrystals ($In_2O_3$ NCs) with sizes of 5.5 nm-10 nm were synthesized by hot injection of the mixture precursors, indium acetate and oleic acid, into alcohol solution (1-octadecanol and 1-octadecence mixture). Field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM), High resolution X-Ray diffraction (X-ray), Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were employed to investigate the size, surface molecular structure, and crystallinity of the synthesized $In_2O_3$ NCs. When covered by oleic acid as a capping group, the $In_2O_3$ NCs had a high crystallinity with a cubic structure, demonstrating a narrow size distribution. A high mobility of $2.51cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ and an on/off current ratio of about $1.0{\times}10^3$ were observed with an $In_2O_3$ NCs thin film transistor (TFT) device, where the channel layer of $In_2O_3$ NCs thin films were formed by a solution process of spin coating, cured at a relatively low temperature, $350^{\circ}C$. A size-dependent, non-monotonic trend on electron mobility was distinctly observed: the electron mobility increased from $0.43cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ for NCs with a 5.5 nm diameter to $2.51cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ for NCs with a diameter of 7.1 nm, and then decreased for NCs larger than 7.1 nm. This phenomenon is clearly explained by the combination of a smaller number of hops, a decrease in charging energy, and a decrease in electronic coupling with the increasing NC size, where the crossover diameter is estimated to be 7.1 nm. The decrease in electronic coupling proved to be the decisive factor giving rise to the decrease in the mobility associated with increasing size in the larger NCs above the crossover diameter.

  • We studied on the nondestructive evaluation of the elastic wave signals of locally wall thinned straight pipe. Wavelet transform was applied for the time-frequency analysis of waveforms obtained by fracture wave detector due to the dropping steel ball. The time-frequency analysis provides time variation of each frequency component involved in a waveform, which makes it possible to evaluate the shape of local wall thinning at each frequency. In this study, comparison by wavelet transform of the AE signals and monotonic bending tests without internal pressure are conducted on 1.91 inch diameter full-scale carbon steel pipe specimens. As the results of tests, fracture behaviors could be shown by the characteristic of mechanical strength of locally wall thinned pipes and the waveforms could be evaluated for the integrity insurance of the piping system according to the length and depth range of the deffeted shape pipes in the real field.

  • The main objective of this study is to evaluate the true fracture energy and monitor the damage progression in steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) specimens using acoustic emission (AE) features. Four point bending test is carried out using pre-notched plain and fibre reinforced (0.5% and 1% volume fraction) - concrete under monotonic loading. AE sensors are affixed at different locations of the specimens and AE parameters such as rise time, AE energy, hits, counts, amplitude and duration etc. are obtained. Using the captured and processed AE event data, fracture process zone is identified and the true fracture energy is evaluated. The AE data is also employed for tracing the damage progression in plain and fibre reinforced concrete, using both parametric- and signal- based techniques. Hilbert - Huang transform (HHT) is used in signal based processing for evaluating instantaneous frequency of the acoustic events. It is found that the appropriately processed and carefully analyzed acoustic data is capable of providing vital information on progression of damage on different types of concrete.

  • Techniques based on thresholding of wavelet coefficients are gaining popularity for denoising data because of the reasonable performance at the low complexity. The VisuShrink which removes the noise with the universal threshold is one of the techniques. The universal threshold is proportional to the noise deviation and the number of data samples. In general, because the noise deviation is not known, one needs to estimate the deviation for determining the value of the universal threshold. But, only for the finest scale wavelet coefficients, it has been known the way of estimating the noise deviation, so the noise in coarse scales cannot be removed with the VisuShrink. We propose here a new denoising method which removes the noise in each scale except the coarsest scale by Visushrink method. The noise deviation at each band is estimated by the monotonic transform and weighted deviation, the product of estimated noise deviation by the weight, is applied to the universal threshold. By making use of the universal threshold and the Soft-Threshold technique, the noise in each band is removed. The denoising characteristics of the proposed method is compared with that of the traditional VisuShrink and SureShrink method. The result showed that the proposed method is effective in denoising on Gaussian noise and quantization noise.
