  • In the present study, compact $0^{th}$ order resonant antenna for 2.4 GHz ISM frequency band is newly proposed. In case of wireless communication systems such as wi-fi, bluetooth and Zigbee, antennas with omni-directional radiation pattern are necessary because of the demands for uniformly received electric field strength without variation for direction. It is well-known that $0^{th}$ order resonant antennas are not only advantageous for miniaturization but also have advantage of maintaining omni-directional radiation pattern. The proposed antenna is composed of two-element array in which the size of unit element should be smaller than ${\lambda}/4$ correspondent to the resonant length of typical monopole antennas The proposed antenna which is placed at middle and upper side of PCB with $50{\times}50mm^2$ size is designed and fabricated within limited space of $8{\times}5mm^2$. The measured impedance bandwidth ($S_{11}{\leq}-10dB$) is about 100 MHz (2.4~2.5 GHz) which corresponds to quite wide bandwidth in comparison with the antenna size, and also the measured peak gain over the passband is more than 3 dBi which is thought to be slightly wider than the other $0^{th}$ order resonant antenna.

  • Recently, according to the increase of using the microwave equipments, the interests in effects on human body have been also increased. For example, there have been many researches on making the standard the specific absorbing ratio (SAR) caused by mobile phones. However, it is needed to study on the induced current on human body caused by HF(Hight Frequency) band which can deeply penetrate the human body. Especially, since the RFID systems are applied to the transportation card and the library, it is hooded to research on the effect on human body exposed to the radiated power from the RFID system. In this paper, we designed a cylindrical monopole antenna model of human body exposed to 13.56 MHz RFID system, which can model the induced current on human body. To verify the proposed equivalent antenna model, we compared the induced currents between human body and the equivalent antenna model.

  • In this study, a triple-band antenna that can be used in WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) at 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and 5G at 3.5 GHz is fabricated. The proposed antenna uses a parasitic element to show the triple band, and the reflector is used at a distance of ${\lambda}/4$ from the antenna to reduce the Specific Absorption Rate(SAR). Its dimensions are $100{\times}75{\times}1.6mm^3$ and each parameter value is optimized for better performance and a lower SAR value. As a result, we obtained a bandwidth of 540 MHz(2.02~2.56 GHz), 390 MHz(3.39~3.78 GHz), and 1,210 MHz(5.56~6.77 GHz) based on the reflection loss factor of -10 dB. In addition, the SAR values of the antenna with reflector are observed to reduce below the SAR value of international standard.

  • In this paper, we have illuminated the radiation modes of rectangular planar antennas to interpret the nature of the wideband characteristic upon which formulas for bandwidth prediction are presented. Rectangular planar antennas are being investigated by many researchers in virtue of relatively simple design and fabrication procedures to replace the cylindrical monopoles. But the design principle for rectangular planar antennas is still based on that of cylindrical monopoles, and the nature of the wideband characteristic and the formula to estimate the upper band frequency are not analyzed yet. In this research, we have shown the patterns of the radiation modes explaining the wideband characteristic and also proposed the upper band frequency with minor modification for the lower band frequency formula based on mode formation principles. Finally we have confirmed the validity of our results, within 10 % accuracy, by the application to some published results.

  • Hyperthermia is a form of cancer treatment in which affected human tissue is exposed to $>40^{\circ}C$ temperature. In this paper, our goal is to assess the efficacy of fullerene agents to reduce heating time for cancer treatment. Such agents can accelerate heating of cancer cells and improve hyperthermia treatment efficacy. Typically, in vitro testing involves cancer cell culturing, heating cell cultures in accordance to specifications, and recording cancer cell viability after hyperthermia. To heat cell cultures, we design and evaluate a 2.4-GHz microwave cavity with controllable temperature. The cavity is comprised of a polystyrene cell culture dish (diameter = 54 mm, height = 13.5 mm) and a printed monopole antenna placed within the cavity for microwave heating. The culture temperature can be controlled through the intensity and duration of the antenna's microwave radiation. Heating experiments were carried out to validate the cavity's performance for F-12K culture medium (Kaighn's F-12K medium, ATCC). Importantly, fullerene agents were shown to reduce heating time and improve hyperthermia treatment efficacy. The culture medium temperature increased, on average, from $24.0^{\circ}C$ to $50.9^{\circ}C$ (without fullerene) and from $24.0^{\circ}C$ to $56.8^{\circ}C$ (with 3 mg/mL fullerene) within 15 minutes.

  • In this paper, a monopole type antenna applicable to WLAN and WiMAX standard frequency bands is designed and fabricated. The proposed antenna is designed to have rectangular ring and rectangular patch based on microstrip feeding for triple band characteristics and inserted two stub in the top of the rectangular ring patch to enhance impedance bandwidth characteristics. The proposed antenna has $18.0mm(2W_1+W_2){\times}33.0mm(L_7+L_8+L_9)$ on a dielectric substrate of $27.0mm(W_1){\times}44mm(L_1){\times}1.0mm$ size. From the fabrication and measurement results, impedance bandwidths of 660MHz (2,08 to 2.74GHz) for 2.4/2.5MHz band, 488MHz (3.40 to 3.88GHz) for 3.5MHz band, and 2,180MHz (4.61 to 6.79GHz) for 5,000MHz band were obtained based on the impedance bandwidth. The proposed antenna also obtained the measured gain and radiation pattern in the anechoic chamber.

  • In this paper, partial discharge(PD) was generated under the two types of needle -plane electrodes in the air. Using a monopole antenna to detect the radiated electromagnetic waves by stream of charge between the electrodes. the progress of partial discharge was studied. To analyze the progress of PD, statistical re-search was introduced. It was executed by personal computer and it can be possible to visualize the progress of PD. The t-test was used for lower voltage applied. The population of background noise spectrum and applied voltage spectrum showed the difference. The new method was introduced to analyze the spectrum. According tho the magnitude of applied voltage, the different statistical methods were used. The results obtained from this work will provide the useful information on partial discharge in time to come.

  • The near field radiated from the monopole antenna of the cellular phone was calculated by using the modified finite difference time domain algorithm derived from the integral form of Maxwell's equations. Substituting the near field value into the differential form of Maxwell's equations, SAR's distribution in the human head was obtained. The human head was simulated by a model of 800,000 block cells with dielectric constant and conductivity. The cell size was taken to be 0.5 cm. the transmitted power of the cellular phone was assumed to be 0.6 watts at the frequency of 833 MHz. The distance between the head and the cellular phone was 2.0 cm, the maximum SAR induced in the human head was about 1.5 W/kg and was below the IEEE's upper safety limit of 1.6 W/kg.

  • This paper presents design methods for dual-frequency(2.4/5.8GHz) active receiving antennas. The proposed active receiving antennas are designed to interconnect the output port of a wideband antenna to the input port of an active device of High Electron Mobility Transistor directly and to receive RF signals of 2.4GHz and 5.2GHz simultaneously where the impedance matching conditions are optimized by adjusting the length of $1/20{\lambda}_0$(@5.8GHz) CPW transmission line in the planar antenna The bandwidth of implemented dual-frequency active receiving antennas is measured in the range of 2.0GHz to 3.1GHz and 5.25GHz to 5.9GHz. Gains are measured of 17.0dB at 2.4GHz and 15.0dB at 5.2GHz. The measured noise figure is 1.5dB at operating frequencies.

  • As the communication and electronic industry develops, it is important to study the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (SE) of carbon fiber (CF) reinforced thermal plastics (CFRTP) against the electromagnetic (EM) radiation. In this paper the shielding effectiveness of CFRTP was measured experimentally in an electromagnetic shielding room. The resin ma- terials used were PC, PP, PEI, PMMA and PA. Experiments were carried out by using a copper box and a monopole antenna with a spectrum analyzer. From the experimental results it was found that CF was a good candidate as an electromagnetic shielding material. The sheilding effectiveness was found to be increased in the composite as the number of laminated layers of CF was increased. As the minor damage increased, the SE increased due to increasing of the plane density, transmitting thickness and reflected angle of the CF. Other characteristics of the SE depended on the material used for the resin matrix, distance of the antennas and the noise frequency band.
