  • OCB mode has advantages such as fast response time and wide viewing angle. But it has inevitable shortcoming which initial splay state must be changed to bend state. To overcoming this problem, OCB cell filled LC with RM monomer was cured by UV when voltage applied. Through previously mentioned methods, even if electric field is none, bend state was made by stabilized LC director. In this paper, we investigated the electric characteristics of polymer stabilized OCB mode.

  • The treatments of methacrylamide on silk fibers were studied in aqueous solution using potassium persulfate as an initiator, and suitable conditions of reaction were determined for weighing of silk fibers. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; The weight of MAA-treated silk fibers increased with monomer concentration. The adequate concentration of potassium persulfate was found to be 1.7%. Maximum weight increase was shown at initial pH 3.8 of reaction liquor controlled by buffer solution.

  • The development of Korean textile industry has continued for the early industrialization. But a change in situation of circumstances, textile industry undergoes hard times. To overcome the barrier, therefore, technical development and design innovation are needed to make high value added product. This paper try to put to practical use of the silk weighting process technique(WPT). First, we investigate the technical trend of WPT to summarize the theory, and examine the feasibility of technical development. Second, the application of Graft process to silk textile is examined to know whether it is possible as an practical use. Next, we present the practical way of WPT using MAA monomer through experiment. The results are as follow. 1) Considering the lack of silk yarn. Graft process is appropriate new technique to make the value added product, and fine quality. 2) Studing textile goods, it need inter-displlinary co-work not only fiber engineering scope because textile goods is closely related with fashion industry. 3) MAA monomer used in this paper is more excellent then other monomer because it has good weighting effect and does not harm to the nature of textile. 4) MAA WPT is good for silk textiles of ladies jacket and neck-tie.

  • The ultraviolet(UV)-curable materials wildly have been used as a ink and coating materials. A according to measure UV polymerization phase separation of acryl groups 2,3,4-functional monomer, a few experiments were performed gel fraction, dynamic viscosity of alkyd resin blend system. Dependence of photoiniator concentration and various monomer, alkyd resin content investigated structural changes of films cured by UV irradiation. Curing rate measured UV irradiation under $25^{\circ}C$, cell gap 7cm and film thickness 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. In results, it was through that the viscoelastic properties of films cured with increasing the ratios of monomer/alkydresin contents are network polymer in properties such as viscoelasticity.

  • Rosin moeity-containing monomer was prepared by the reaction of abietic acid with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate in tetrahydrofuran(THF) using diethyl azodicarboxylate as a catalyst. This new monomer was photo-polymerized to give thin films in the presence of a radical type initiator. The rate of photo-polymerization and amount of cured polymer were determined using the residual yield method. A thermogravimetric analysis of the cured polymer showed that the film was stable up to 170oC, at which point the polymer film has lost 10 wt % of its weight.

  • The electrical properties of vapor deposition polymerized polymide thin films for getting an in-line system with manufacturing process of semiconductor device, have been studied. Polyimide thin films fabricated by vapor deposition polymerization(VDP) method based on PMDA and 4,4'-DDE monomer were confirmed by FT-IR spectra. It is found that the major conduction carriers of thin films are ions, and the hopping length of ions is almost same with monomer length at the temperature over 120.deg. C through the analysis of electrical conduction mechanism. Also, The activation energy is about 0.69 eV at the temperature of >$30^{\circ}C$ - >$150^{\circ}C$ and it is shown that the resistivity at which thin films can be used as an insulating film between layers of semiconductor device, is 3.2*10$^{15}$ .ohm.cm.

  • The use of renewable feedstock is an important issue to reduce the fossil fuel consumption. In this contribution, we report the cationic ring-opening polymerization of a 2-oxazoline monomer with soybean fatty acid side chains (SoyOx) under microwave irradiation. Kinetic experiments were performed to investigate the livingness of the polymerization in both acetonitrile and in the absence of solvent. In addition, both block and statistical copolymers were prepared using the SoyOx monomer. The synthesized (co)polymers were crosslinked under UV-irradiation resulting in insoluble polymeric materials and core-crosslinked micelles.

  • The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA) and acrylamide (AAm) onto oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fiber were successfully carried out in aqueous solution using $H_{2}O_{2}/Fe^{2+}$ as initiator. For all monomers the percentage of grafting increases with the amount of monomer and can be controlled by setting the appropriate reaction conditions. The optimum reaction period were found to be 120 minutes for all monomers whereas the optimum temperature and the amount of initiator needed for grafting depend on the type of the monomer used. The mechanisms of grafting vinyl monomer onto OPEFB were proposed. The grafted products were characterized by gravimetric analysis, FTIR and SEM.

  • Radiation grafting of acrylic acid onto nylon fabric has been studied by "simultaneous irradiation" method to render its surface more hydrophilic. Nylon fabric immersed in monomer solution was irradiated in air or under vacuum with gamma-rays from Co-60. Most parts of polyacrylic acid formed on the surface of the fabric were extracted off from the fabric with 0.1% solution of sodium hydroxide at 10$0^{\circ}C$. The chemical components of the grafted product have been determined. By comparing graft polymer with ungrafted polyamide, the rate of water absorption and antistatic behavior are improved. improved.

  • We have studied the optically compensated splay (OCS) mode using reactive mesogen monomer to reduce critical voltage, setting voltage and phase transition time from initial bend to splay state. The high pretilt angle from vertical alignment was formed through the polymerization of UV curable RM monomer at the surfaces. In this way, orientation of the LC with OCS can be achieved without setting voltage.
