Effects of opening distance on liquid-gas spray of pintle injector under atmospheric condition (핀틀 인젝터의 개도가 액체-기체 상압 분무에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of opening distance on liquid-gas spray of pintle injector were experimentally investigated under atmospheric condition by using water and air as simulants of propellants. Discharge coefficients($C_d$) and mass flow rates were calculated with various injection conditions; 0.1 bar - 1.0 bar for water pressures and 0.2 mm - 1.0 mm for the pintle opening distances. Spray angles were measured from the spray images that were obtained by a shadowgraphy method. When opening distance is 0.2 mm, liquid sheet is not formed properly and it show non-uniform spray. than it can result in combustion instability. it has a weak correlation between the momentum flux ratio and the spray angle, while it has a strong correlation between the momentum ratio and spray angle. Finally the spray angles reduced exponentially when the momentum ratio increased and the spray angles converged to about 40 degrees.

  • The effects of injection conditions on the droplet sizes resulting from the disintegration of a liquid jet by a fast annular gas stream have been investigated using PDPA. The gas/liquid momentum ratio M = $\rho$$_{g}$ $U_{g}$$^2$/$\rho$$_1$ $U_1$$^2$ and Weber number We = $\rho$$_{g}$ $g^2$ $D_1$/$\sigma$ are selected as key parameters in atomization of shear coaxial spray from the fluid mechanics standpoint. It is revealed that SMD( $D_{32}$) varies inversely with gas/liquid momentum ratio(M), whereas Weber number(We) has little effect on the droplet sizes as gas velocities increase. It is found that gas/liquid momentum ratio is more dominant factor controlling the breakup and atomization process of shear coaxial spray. Finally, an empirical correlation between SMD and injection conditions(i.e. gas/liquid momentum ratio M and Weber number We) is proposed based on the experimental results.

  • Breakup and spray formation of pressure-swirl liquid jets injected into a low-speed convective-flow are experimentally investigated. Effects of the cross-flows on the macroscopic and microscopic spray parameters are optically measured in terms of jet Weber number and liquid-to-gas momentum ratio. The liquid stream undergoes Rayleigh jet breakup at lower jet Weber numbers and a liquid sheet isn't formed because of the weak radial velocity in the swirl jet. At higher jet Weber numbers, the macroscopic spray parameter is a very weak function of the momentum ratio but the effect of the convection on the microscopic spray parameter is significant through the secondary breakup with increasing in the liquid-to-gas momentum ratio. The convective-flow promotes bag/plume breakup and the spray formation, and its effect is more distinct at higher momentum ratio.

  • Effects of injector position and momentum flux ratio on a vertical jet in a cross flow field were studied qualitatively and shown by using air and water. The experiment was carried out by fixing the momentum flux ratio and varying the position of the injector hole. Conversely, the injector hole position was fixed and the momentum flux ratio was varied. Image visualization was performed by a Shadowgraph technique using a high speed camera. The visualized images were compared for finding differences in spraying through Density Gradient Magnitude Image. It is observed that as the x/d of the apparatus increased the jet break up height decreases and the spray angle also decreases. When x/d is 0, the spray reaches the floor and ceiling at any momentum flux ratio.

  • The mixing of propellant and its mass distribution of unlike-doublet impinging injector, which is known to affect the combustion efficiency significantly, have been studied using PLIF(Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence). The results show that fuel jet penetrates considerably into the oxidizer jet at impinging point as variation of momentum ratio. and then stream flows inclined because of variation of momentum ratio. Consequently, the mixing efficiency shows that maximum efficiency is at MR=3. after MR=3, mining efficiency decreases slightly.

  • The flow of combustor in scramjet engine is supersonic speed. So residence time and mixing ratio are very important factors for efficient combustion. This study used open cavity on fuel/air mixing model and laser schlieren was carried out to investigate flow characteristics around a jet orifice and a cavity. A source of illumination has 10 ns endurance time so it can observe unsteady flow characteristics efficiently. Pressure was measured by varying momentum flux ratio. And the change of critical ignition point was observed to change of momentum flux ratio.

  • Mixing efficiency of the unlike Impinging split triplet injector(FOOF type) were measured to investigate the effect of the momentum ratio variation. $H_2$O/kerosene were used as a propellant simulant. The maximum mixing efficiency occured at the momentum ratio 1.5 (total mixture ratio 1.89). Calculated mixing efficiency of real propellant LOX/Kerosene showed similar trend but maximum efficiency of characteristic velocity occurs at the momentum ratio 2.0(total mixture ratio 2.17). Although there exist a little discrepancy between calculated mixing efficiency based on simulant cold test and hot fire test results, this calculated mixing efficiency can be used to predict hot fire mixing efficiency.

This study used open cavity(L/D=4.8) as a fuel/air mixing model. Laser schlieren visualization and pressure measurement were carried out to observe the flow characteristics around a jet orifice and a cavity at the time of fuel injection. As a result of 10ns laser schlieren, unsteady flow which was around the cavity could be observed effectively. Pressure was measured that momentum flux ratio(J) was changed. And the change of critical ignition point could be observed by the momentum flux ratio changed.

An Analysis of the Momentum Effect by Students' Cognitive Characteristics (학습자의 인지 특성에 따른 학습 지속 효과의 분석)

  • This study tried to find the effect to cognitive structure upon the momentum effect. The previous studies showed that the momentum effect is influenced by students' cognitive levels and the abstractness of test items. The cognitive structure is examined by cognitive level and cognitive style. Cognitive levels and cognitive styles are determined by GALT and GEFT respectively. The research method used in this study is time series design. The period is 50 days. The period is divided into "pre-test", "intervention-test", "post-test". Pre-test period is 5 days and in this period class instruction does not exist Intervention-test period is 30 days and in this period class instruction exist Post-test period is 15 days and in this period class instruction does not exist. Field independent students showed longer momentum effect than field dependent students. Formal level students showed less ratio of decrease on post-test than nonformal level students. Momentum effects is not artifact but the essential characteristics of science study.

  • To achieve efficient supersonic combustion within a manageable length, a successful fuel injection scheme must provide rapid mixing between fuel and airstream. In former days, various injection concepts have been investigated. Cavity flow is the open type, that is, length-to-depth ratio L/D=4.8, aft ramp angle is $22.5^{\circ}$. An experimental study on a transverse cross jet injection into a Mach 1.92 supersonic main stream which flows over a cavity was carried out to investigate the effect of the momentum flux ratio(J), the jet interaction characteristics, and the pressure distribution in the combustor and using the primary diagnostics : schlieren visualization and wall static pressure measurements. Fuel penetration height and jet interaction characteristics depend strongly on the momentum flux ratio.
