Microstructural Properties of the Insoluble Residue in a Simulated Spent Fuel

  • Chemical composition of the insoluble residue in a simulated spent PWR fuel(SIMRJEL) were studied. SIMFUELS were prepared by adding calculated amount of FP(fission product) elements with a burnup of 3.6% FIMA(fission per initial metal atom) to uranium in nitrate solution, evaporating the mixed solution to dryness, calcining at 90$0^{\circ}C$ in a stream of 4% H$_2$ + 96% He, and heating the pellet at 140$0^{\circ}C$ under high and low oxygen potentials. Insoluble residue was obtained from the dissolution of the SIMFUEL with HNO$_3$(1 : 1). The chemical composition of the SIMFUELs and the insoluble residues was determined by EPMA(electron probe microanalysis), XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and by XRD (X-ray diffraction) measurements. All of the insoluble residues suspended and precipitated were composed mainly of Mo, Ru with a small amount of Zr, Rh, Pd and Cd. The amount of insoluble residue(<1 wt.%) and a Mo/Ru ratio decreased with increasing oxygen potential. Formation of the zirconium molybdate precipitate, ZrMo$_2$O$_{7}$(OH)$_2$($H_2O$)$_2$, was observed in the residues. The possible role of Mo on the phase formation was discussed in regard to oxygen potential.l.

마이크로파 공정으로 제조된 PbMoO4 산화물에서 Rhodamine B의 광촉매 분해 반응 (Photocatalytic Decomposition of Rhodamine B over PbMoO4 Oxides Prepared Using Microwave-assisited Process)

  • PbMoO4 산화물을 수열합성법과 마이크로파 공정으로 합성하여 XRD, DRS, BET, Raman, SEM 및 PL 등에 의해 특성분석을 하였고, 자외선 조사 하에서 Rhodamine B의 광분해 반응에서의 활성을 조사하였다. XRD 및 Raman의 분석 결과로부터 대부분의 촉매들은 제조방법과 무관하게 잘 결정화된 PbMoO4 구조를 가지고 있었으며 42에서 59 nm의 크기를 나타내었다. 마이크로파 공정으로 제조된 PbMoO4 촉매는 통상적인 수열합성법으로 제조된 촉매에 비해 균일한 입자를 가지고 있으며, 높은 광분해 활성을 나타내었다. 마이크로파 주사 시간을 75분으로 제조한 PbMoO4 촉매가 가장 높은 광분해 활성을 나타내었다. 모든 촉매들은 530 nm 부근에서 강하고 넓은 PL 흡수밴드가 나타났으며, 이 피크의 세기가 커질수록 광분해 활성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

Microwave Sol-Gel Preparation of NaLa(MoO4)2:Eu3+/Yb3+ Particles and Their Upconversion Photoluminescence Properties

  • $NaLa_{1-x}(MoO_4)_2:Eu^{3+}/Yb^3$ phosphors with doping concentrations of $Eu^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ ($x= Eu^{3+}+Yb^{3+}$, $Eu^{3+}=0.05$, 0.1, 0.2 and $Yb^{3+}= 0.2$, 0.45) were successfully synthesized by the microwave-modified sol-gel method, and the upconversion and spectroscopic properties were investigated. Well-crystallized particles showed a fine and homogeneous morphology with particle sizes of $2-5{\mu}m$. Under excitation at 980 nm, $NaLa_{0.5}(MoO_4)_2:Eu_{0.05}Yb_{0.45}$ particles exhibited a strong 525-nm emission band and a weak 550-nm emission band in the green region, and a very weak 665-nm emission band in the red region. The strong 525-nm emission in the green region corresponds to the $^7F_1{\rightarrow}^5D_1$ transition and the weak 550-nm emission in the green region corresponds to the $^7F_0{\rightarrow}^5D_2$ transition, while the very weak emission 665-nm band in the red region corresponds to the $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_3$ transition. The Raman spectra of the doped particles indicated the domination of strong peaks at higher frequencies of 762, 890, 1358 and $1430cm^{-1}$ and weak peaks at lower frequencies of 323, 388 and $450cm^{-1}$ induced by the disorder of the $[MoO4]^{2-}$ groups with the incorporation of the $Eu^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ elements into the crystal lattice or by a new phase formation.

  • 몰리브덴산암모늄염과 인산의 반응으로 P/Mo=0.6의 비율을 가진 몰리브덴인산화물을 제조하고 이를 촉매로 사용하여 메틸피라진의 가암모니아 산화반응에 대한 메틸피라진, 산소, 암모니아의 각각의 분압과 반응온도 등의 반응변수의 영향을 살펴보았다. 표준실험조건하의 반응에서 300시간까지의 촉매활성은 안전상태를 유지하였다. 안정화 상태에서의 메틸피라진의 가암모니아 산화반응 속도식은 $-r=kP_{MP}P_{NH3}{^0}P_{O2}{^{\gamma}}({\gamma}=2.2;1.3{\leq}P_{O2}(kPa){\leq}4)$으로 메틸피라진에 대해서는 1차, 암모니아에 대해서는 0차, 산소에 대해서는 분압 4kPa이하에서 2.2차로 나타났다. 623K이하의 반응온도 하에서의 겉보기 활성화에너지는 29.6kcal/mol이었다. 메탈피리진의 주생성물은 시아노피라진으로서 선택도는 전환율에 관계없이 항상 90%이상을 유지하였다.

Synthesis of scheelite-type nanocolloidal particles by pulsed laser ablation in liquid and their size distribution analysis

  • A novel pulsed laser ablation process in liquid was investigated to prepare scheelite-type ceramic [calcium tungstate ($CaWO_4$) and calcium molybdate ($CaMoO_4$)] nanocolloidal particles. The crystalline phase, particle morphology, particle size distribution, absorbance and optical band-gap were investigated. Stable colloidal suspensions consisting of well-dispersed $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ nanoparticles with narrow size distribution could be obtained without any surfactant. Particle tracking analysis using optical microscope combined with image analysis was applied for a fast determination of particle size distribution in the prepared nanocolloidal suspensions. The mean nanoparticle size of $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ colloidal nanoparticles were 16 nm and 30 nm, with the standard deviations of 2.1 and 5.2 nm, respectively. The optical absorption edges showed blue-shifted values about 60~70 nm than those of reported in bulk crystals. And also, the estimated optical energy band-gaps of $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ colloidal particles were 5.2 and 4.7 eV. The observed band-gap widening and blue-shift of the optical absorbance could be ascribed to the quantum confinement effect due to the very small size of the $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ nanocolloidal particles prepared by pulsed laser ablation in liquid.

A Rat Liver Lysosomal Membrane Flavin-Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphohydrolase

  • An enzyme that hydrolyzes flavin-adenine dinucleotide (FAD) was found to be present in rat liver lysosomal membrane prepared from Triton WR-1339 filled lysosomes (tritosomes) purified by flotation on sucrose. This FAD phosphohydrolase (FADase) exhibited optimal activity at pH 8.5 and had an apparent Km of approximately 3.3 mM. The activity was decreased 50~70% by dialysis against EDTA and this was restored by $Zn^{2+}$, $Mg^{+2}$, $Hg^{+2}$, and $Ca^{+2}$ ions inhibited the enzyme, but $F^-$ and molybdate had no effect. The enzyme was also inhibited by p-chloromercuribenzoate (pCMB), reduced glutathione and other thiols, cyanide, and ascorbate. The presence of ATP, ADP, AMP. ${\alpha}-{\beta}-methylene$ ATP, AMP-p-nitrophenyl phosphate (PNP), GMP, and coenzyme A (CoA) decreased the activity on FAD, but pyrimidine nucleotides, adenosine, adenine, or $NAD^+$ were without effect. Phosphate stimulated the activity slightly. FAD phosphohydrolase activity was separated from ATPase and inorganic pyrophosphatase activities by solubilization with detergents and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and by linear sucrose density gradient centrifugation suggesting that the enzyme is different from ATPase, inorganic pyrophosphatase, and soluble lysosomal FAD pyrophosphatase. Paper chromatography showed that FAD was hydrolyzed to flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and AMP which were further hydrolyzed to riboflavin and AMP by phosphatases known to be present in lysosomal membranes. Incubation of the intact Iysosomes with pronase showed that the active site of FAD phosphohydrolase must be oriented to the cytosol. The FAD hydrolyzing activity was detected in Golgi, microsome, and plasma membrane, but not in mitochondria or soluble lysosomal preparations.

  • The material deterioration of service-exposed boiler tube steels in fossil power plant was evaluated by using the electrochemical technique namely, modified electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation(EPR). It was focused that the passivation of Mo$_{6}$C carbide which governs the mechanical properties of Mo alloyed steels did not occur even in the passivity region of steel in sodium molybdate solution and the reactivation peak current (Ip) observed as the result of non-passivation indicating the precipitation of Mo$_{6}$C carbides. To obtain the optimal test conditions for the field test by using the specially designed electrochemical cell, the effects of scan rate, the surface roughness and the pH of electrolyte on Ip value were also investigated. Furthermore, the change of mechanical properties occurred during the long time exposure at high temperature was evlauated quantitatively by small punch(SP) tests and micro hardness test taking account of the metallurgical changes. It is known that reactivation peak current (Ip) has a good relationship with Larson-Miller Parameter(LMP) which represents the information about material deterioration occurred at high temperature environment. In addition it was possible to estimate the ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) by means of the SP test. The Sp test could be, therefore, suggested as a reliable test method for evaluating the material degradation of boiler tube steels. From the good correaltion between the SP DBTT and Ip values shown in this study, it was knows that the change of mechanical properties could be evaluated non-destructively by measurring only Ip values.ues.

계면활성제를 이용한 수열합성법에 의한 PbMoO4의 합성 및 그들의 광촉매 활성 (Synthesis of PbMoO4 Using a Facile Surfactant-assisted Hydrothermal Method and Their Photocatalytic Activity)

  • $PbMoO_4$를 계면활성제를 이용하여 수열합성법으로 합성하였고, XRD, Raman, TEM, PL, BET 및 DRS 등에 의해 특성 분석을 하였다. 이들을 사용하여 자외선 조사 하에서 Rhodamine B의 광분해 반응에서의 활성을 조사하였다. XRD 및 Raman의 분석 결과로부터 계면활성제를 이용한 손쉬운 수열합성에 의해 잘 결정화된 $PbMoO_4$ 구조를 가진 촉매들이 합성되었으며 52에서 69 nm의 크기를 나타내었다. cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)를 계면활성제로 사용하여 합성된 $PbMoO_4$는 P-25와 순수한 $PbMoO_4$ 보다 높은 광촉매 활성을 나타내었다. pH 9에서 합성된 $PbMoO_4$ 촉매가 가장 높은 활성을 나타내었다. 모든 촉매들은 540 nm 부근에서 강하고 넓은 PL 흡수밴드가 나타났으며, 이 피크의 세기가 커질수록 Rhodamine B의 광분해 활성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

A Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Inhibitor, Pervanadate, Inhibits Angiotensin II-Induced β-Arrestin Cleavage

  • ${\beta}$-Arrestins turn off G protein-mediated signals and initiate distinct G protein-independent signaling pathways. We previously demonstrated that angiotensin $AT_1$ receptorbound ${\beta}$-arrestin 1 is cleaved after $Phe^{388}$ upon angiotensin II stimulation. The mechanism and signaling pathway of angiotensin II-induced ${\beta}$-arrestin cleavage remain largely unknown. Here, we show that protein Tyr phosphatase activity is involved in the regulation of ${\beta}$-arrestin 1 cleavage. Tagging of green fluorescent protein (GFP) either to the N-terminus or C-terminus of ${\beta}$-arrestin 1 induced conformational changes and the cleavage of ${\beta}$-arrestin 1 without angiotensin $AT_1$ receptor activation. Orthovanadate and molybdate, inhibitors of protein Tyr phosphatase, attenuated the cleavage of C-terminal GFP-tagged ${\beta}$-arrestin 1 in vitro. The inhibitory effects of okadaic acid and pyrophosphate, which are inhibitors of protein Ser/Thr phosphatase, were less than those of protein Tyr phosphatase inhibitors. Cell-permeable pervanadate inhibited angiotensin II-induced cleavage of ${\beta}$-arrestin 1 in COS-1 cells. Our findings suggest that Tyr phosphorylation signaling is involved in the regulation of angiotensin II-induced ${\beta}$-arrestin cleavage.

Relationships between Methane Production and Sulfate Reduction in Reclaimed Rice Field Soils

  • The change in relationships between methane production and sulfate reduction was investigated in reclaimed rice field soils at different time points after reclamation of tidal flat in Korea. Sulfate concentrations of soils in the ca. 60-year-old and 26-year-old reclaimed rice fields were much lower than that in a natural tidal flat. During 60 d of anaerobic incubation, total methane production and sulfate consumption of the soil slurries were 7.0 ${\mu}$mol $CH_4$/g and 8.2 ${\mu}$mol $SO_4^{2-}$/g in the 60-year-old rice field, 5.6 ${\mu}$mol $CH_4$/g and 12.7 mmol $SO_4^{2-}$/g in the 26-year-old rice field, and ca. 0 mmol $CH_4$/g and 22.4 ${\mu}$mol $SO_4^{2-}$/g in a natural tidal flat. Relative percent electron flow through sulfate reduction in the 60-year-old rice field was much lower (50.8%) compared with the 26-year-old rice field (69.3%) and the tidal flat (99.9%). The addition of an inhibitor of methanogenesis (2-bromoethanesulfonate) had no effect on sulfate reduction in the soil slurries of the reclaimed rice fields. However, instant stimulation of methane production was achieved with addition of an inhibitor of sulfate reduction (molybdate) in the soil slurries from the 26-year-old reclaimed rice field. The specific inhibitor experiments suggest that the relationship of methanogenesis and sulfate reduction might become mutually exclusive or syntrophic depending on sulfate content in the soil after reclamation. Sulfate, thus sulfate reduction activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria, would be an important environmental factor that inhibits methane production and determines the major pathway of electron and carbon flow in anaerobic carbon mineralization of reclaimed rice field soils.
