Risering of Steel Castings in Vacuum Molding Process (진공흡입주형 주조법에서 주강의 압탕 방안 설계)

  • General criteria for the risering design of steel castings and commercial codes for the flow and solidification analysis were used to design the optimized risering in V-process. Three type of specimens were chosen including thin plates and a thick disc. Sided riser installed in the front of a plate casting was effective to prevent the shrinkage defects and to increase the casting yield ratio. Exothennic sleeve and chill were also effective. It was possible to apply the general criteria for the risering design of steel castings to V-process. Temperature of a mold surface was expected to rise over $1,000^{\circ}C$ in the temperature calculation considering radiation effect of molten metal in the mold. Since weakening temperature of the vinyl used in V-process is about $70^{\circ}C$, it should be emphasized that a proper coating of the vinyl film is necessary to prevent the possibility of burning out of the vinyl by the molten metal.

CaO Manufacture for $CO_2$ Adsorption at a High Temperature (고온에서의 이산화탄소 흡착을 위한 흡착제 CaO 제조)

  • It is desired that carbon dioxide causing a greenhouse effect be removed at a high temperature and high pressure in a steam reforming reaction. In this research, a pellet form of adsorbent CaO is employed to capture $CO_2$. The adsorbent was manufactured using a high pressure molding on powdered $CaCO_3$ followed by calcination. Then its properties were analyzed and the adsorption experiments were carried out in a batch adsorption chamber. The pore area was found to be dependent on a molding pressure and the pore distribution showed two peaks. It is examined that $CO_2$ binds to CaO by means of chemisorption and its maximum conversion is nearly $80\%$ at $700^{\circ}C$.

A Study on the Room Temperature Properties of Domestic Molding Sand depending on the Variations of Sand Grain Distribution and Grain Shape. (국산주물사(國産鑄物砂)의 입도분포(粒度分布)와 입형(粒形)에 따른 상온성질(常溫性質)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Green compressive strength, permeability, deformation, flowability, compactability and green hardness values at room temperature are dependable on the grain distribution and grain shape. The results obtained under constant moisture (4% for sand) and bentonite (8% for sand) were as follows; 1. With decreasing grain size, surface area of sand grain was increased. 2. With decreasing grain size, coefficient of angularity was increased. 3. As surface area increased from $8926.43cm^2$ to $21211.16cm^2$ , green compressive strength was increased from $210.93\;g/cm^2$ to $449.98\;g/cm^2$, hardness was increased from 76.7 to 82.3, but permeability was decreased from $411.7\;{\frac{\;cc\;{\cdot}\;cm\;}{atm\;{\cdot}\;cm^2\;{\cdot}\;min.}}$ to $113.7\;{\frac{\;cc\;{\cdot}\;mm\;}{atm\;{\cdot}\;cm^2\;{\cdot}\;min.}}$ 4. As surface area increased from $8926.43\;cm^2$ to $21211.16\;cm^2$, flowability was decreased from 82.3% to 80.8%, deformation was decreased from $67.1\;cm\;{\times}\;10^{-3}$ to $54.6\;cm\;{\times}\;10^{-3}$, but compactability was increased from 44.8% to 54.3%. 5. Room temperature properties of molding sand were affected by variation of surface area.

  • The environmental pollution which is global warming and abnormal climate is caused by increasing population and activated economics. To reduce environmental pollution, we have being efforts into reducing $CO_2$ emission and use of energy, resources. Especially, for the sake of light weight and fuel efficiency of automotive industry, many countries have defined the restrict environmental regulation which stipulate high magnitude of reducing $CO_2$ emission. In this study, we have predicted the problem of Mu-cell injection molding through the finite element analysis as a function of temperature controlled by Joule heating or in terms of mold temperature. From the result of finite element analysis, we have determined the optimized process and made the injection mold included electric current heating system with Mu-cell manufacturing. Lastly, we analyzed the surface characteristics of the injection products with mold temperature.

Characteristics of Complex Foaming Composites' Normal Pressure Foaming of Using Rubber and Bio-Degradable Materials

  • There are many types of foam molding methods. The most commonly used methods are the pressure foaming method, in which foam resin is mixed with a foaming agent at high temperature and high pressure, and the normal pressure foaming method, which foams at high temperature without pressure. The polymer resins used for foaming have different viscosities. For foaming under normal pressure, they need to be designed and analyzed for optimal foaming conditions, to obtain resins with low melt-viscosity or a narrow optimal viscosity range. This study investigated how changes in viscosity, molding temperature, and cross-link foaming conditions affected the characteristics of the molded foam, prepared by blending rubber polymer with biodegradable resin. The morphologies of cross sections and the cell structures of the normal pressure foam were investigated by SEM analysis. Properties were also studied according to cross-link/foaming conditions and torque. Also, the correlation between foaming characteristics was studied by analyzing tensile strength and elongation, which are mechanical properties of foaming composites.

The Conversion of Ginsenosides by Extrusion Molding (압출성형에 의한 ginsenoside의 변환)

  • Ginseng treated with several treatment conditions of various acids to search hydrolysates on the basis of increased biological activity and modified structure. In the result of acid treatment, the conversion rate of ginsenoside Rg3, Rk1 and Rg5 was highest when ginseng treated with citric acid. After added citric acid to ginseng extract, boiled at l00$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour and add enzyme, which is examined change by time. It compared with group which did not treated acid. Two groups became difference according to enzyme but the generation rate of ginsenoside Rg3, Rk1 and Rg5 did not show difference greatly. Also, the generation rate of ginsenoside Rg3, Rk1 and Rg5 by time passes did not show difference. The generation rate of ginsenoside Rg3, Rk1 and Rg5 increased when increased acid concentration, temperature and time. We did exclusion molding to shorten treatment time. In the result of ginseng treated with citric acid of various concentrations at various temperatures as time passes by extrusion molding, the generation rate of ginsenoside Rg3, Rk1 and Rg5 was highest when ginseng treated with 3% citric acid at l60$^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes. In addition, total saponin amount of ginseng treated with 3% citric acid at 160$^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes was about 11% higher than ginseng heated at 120$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. These results indicated that our exclusion molding process more effective, compared to traditional red ginseng manufacturing process.

Characteristics of Surface Hardening of Dies Steel for Plastic Molding using Continuous Wave Md:YAG Laser (연속파형 Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용한 플라스틱성형용 금형강의 표면경화 특성)

  • Die steel for plastic molding were used as mold material of automobile parts and electronic component industry. The material of this paper has superior to mechanical properties, such as repair weldability, corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, required mold parts for semitransparent. Laser-induced surface hardening technology is widely adopted to improver fatigue life and wear resistance via localized hardening at the surface of mold parts. The objective of this research work is to investigate on the characteristics of surface hardening of the laser process parameters, such as beam travel speed, laser power and defocsued spot position, for the case of die steel for plastic molding. Lens for surface hardening of large area is plano-convex type with elliptical profile to maintain uniform laser irradiation. According to the experimental results, large size of hardened layer at the surface of die steel for plastic molding was achieved, and microstructure of this layer was lath martensite. Optimal surface status and mechanical property of hardened layer could be obtained at 1095Watt, $0.25{\sim}0.3m/min$, 0mm (focal length: 232mm) for laser power, beam travel speed, and focal position. Where, heat input was $0.793{\times}10^{3}J/cm^2$, and width of hardened layer was 27.58mm.

Effects of the mold surface heating methods for the DVD stamper with nano pattern on the transcription of the injection molded parts using COC and PMMA plastics (나노패턴을 갖는 DVD용 스템퍼의 표면가열방식이 COC, PMMA 수지를 이용한 사출성형품의 전사성에 미치는 영향)

  • We developed the stamper structured mold with moving core type with nano pattern. Among the factors affecting the quality of injection molding plastic parts, We studied the effects of moving core surface heating method on the transcription of injection molding plastic parts with nano structures. Moving core surface heating has been tested by three different methods. The first was conventional injection molding process without heating moving core surface, the second was halogen lamp radiation heating process and the last was MmSH process using gas flame. As a result of making injection molded parts by using thermoplastic amorphous resins such as COC, PMMA, MmSH method which is the most high temperature of moving core surface showed the best nano pattern transcription of the three methods, but the outcome of conventional injection molding process was not better than others.

  • Recently, in the field of railway vehicles, interest in the use of composite materials for weight reduction and transportation efficiency is increasing. Accordingly, research and commercialization development to apply composite materials to various vehicle parts are being actively conducted, and evaluation is conducted centering on post-measurement such as mechanical performance evaluation of finished products to verify quality when composite materials are applied. However, the analysis of heat and stress generated during the molding process of composite materials, which are factors that greatly affect manufacturing quality, is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, in order to verify the molding quality of composite parts for railway vehicles, the molding quality analysis was conducted for the two types of composite interior panels (laminate panel and sandwich panel) that are most actively used. To this end, temperature and strain changes were monitored during the molding process by using an FBG fiber optic sensor, which is easy to apply to the inside of the composite, and the residual strain value generated after molding was completed was measured. As a result, it was confirmed that overheating and excessive residual stress did not occur, thereby verifying the excellent molding quality of the composite interior panel for railway vehicles.

  • Owing to the global energy crisis, studies have strongly focused on realizing energy savings through vehicle weight reduction using light metal alloys or polymer composites. Polymer composites afford many advantages including enabling the fabrication of complex shapes by injection molding, and glass and carbon fibers offer improved mechanical properties. However, the high temperature in an engine room and the high humidity during the rainy season can degrade the mechanical properties of the polymer. In this study, the mechanical properties of injection-molded glass-fiber-reinforced polymer were assessed at a temperature of $85^{\circ}C$ and the maximum moisture absorption conditions. The result showed a 23% reduction in the maximum tensile strength under high temperature, 30% reduction under maximum moisture absorption, and 70% reduction under both heat and moisture conditions. For material selection during the design process, the effects of high temperature and high humidity should be considered.
