  • The pressure of the mold flux acting on the meniscus shell was investigated through the coupling analysis of heat transfer in the mold and fluid flow in the flux caused by the mold oscillation. Finite element method was employed to solve the conservation equation associated with appropriate boundary conditions. As reported by previous workers, the axial pressure is positive on the negative strip time and negative on the positive strip time. A maximum pressure is predicted toward the top of the meniscus shell which has the thin shell arid a maximum value is in proportion to the relative mold oscillation velocity. The relative mold oscillation velocity was changed by the effect of meniscus level fluctuation. Therefore the pressure of the mold flux acting on the meniscus shell was different each cycle of the mold oscillation due to the irregularity of relative mold oscillation velocity.

  • In order to prevent shell sticking by providing sufficient lubrication between the strand and the mold, the mold oscillation has been used. Now it is well known that the shape of the oscillation curve has a decisive effect on the surface quality of the cast product. Besides, oscillation parameters such as stroke and frequency are also very important. In order to guarantee that parameters which have been found to be optimal for a certain grade of steel do not change with time, periodical checks of the physical condition of the whole equipment are necessary. The portable mold oscillation analyzer with integrated computer, developed by POSCO, records the movement of the mold in every spatial direction. The system uses the gap sensors to measure the mold movement (displacement ) in the two horizontal directions according to the mold narrow and broad faces and the vertical strokes in the four corners of mold. The gap sensor is a non-contacting minute displacement measuring device using the principle of high frequency eddy current loss. The mold oscillation diagnosis system integrates the gap sensors, their converters and the industrial portable computer with plug-in data acquisition boards. The all programs, such as the fast Fourier transformation module (amplitude and phase spectrums) and harmonic analysis module, was coded by LabVIEW$^{TM}$ software as the graphical language. In an own 'expert module' which is included in the diagnosis program, one can obtain much information about the mold oscillation equipment.

  • In the continuous casting process, molten metal contacts the mold wall and the molten metal surface is subject to the mold oscillation. The mold oscillation results in the oscillation marks on the surface of solidified steel, which has undesirable effects on the quality of slabs. In order to reduce the oscillation marks by achieving soft contact of molten metal with the mold surface, alternating magnetic field is applied to the surface of molten metal. However, if the magnetic field strength becomes too strong, the melt flow induced by the magnetic field. causes the instability of the molten metal surface, which has also the bad influence on the slab quality. Therefore, it is very important to choose the optimal position of the inductor coil and the optimal level of electric power to minimize the surface defects. In the present work, as a first step toward the optimization problem of the process, numerical studies are performed to investigate the effects of coil position and the electric power level on the meniscus shape and the flow field. As numerical tools, the boundary integral equation method(BIEM) is used for the magnetic field analysis and the finite difference method (FDM) with orthogonal grid generation is used for the flow analysis.

  • In this study, design technology of a non-mechanical flow meter using fluidic oscillation generated during the fluid flow in the chamber was investigated. To with respect to design a splitter, which is the most important factor in fluid oscillation, a transient flow simulation analysis was performed for three types of shapes and changes in inlet flow velocity. The oscillation characteristics with respect to the time in each case were compared, and it was confirmed that the SM03 model was the best among the presented models. In addition, the FFT analysis of the fluid oscillation results for the SM03 model was used to obtain a linear correlation between the flow velocity change and the maximum frequency, and a frequency of 20.957 (Hz/m/s) per unit flow velocity was obtained. Finally, injection molding simulation and molding experiment of the chamber with the designed splitter were performed.

  • High speed casting technology is an attractive method to increase the productivity of continuous casting. However, high speed casting causes flow instability of molten steel in a mold. In this study, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) has been performed to identify the characteristics of mold flow for various shapes of submerged entry nozzles. The LES code has been newly developed to efficiently compute the two-phase flow by using the Fractional Step Method (FSM) combined with the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method. The Immersed Boundary Method was used to implement the shape of the submerged entry nozzle. Three cases of discharge angle of the submerged entry nozzle were computed and compared. The current results shed light on improving shape design of a submerged entry nozzle.

  • Improvement in the control strategy for continuous casting is a crucial requirement to enhance the slab's quality and to increase productivity. The mold oscillator adopts the dual cylinders due to its heavy weight, so the synchronized motion of two cylinders is an important aspect when precise control is needed. The conventional method uses the master-slave control applied to the valve input reference, but the synchronization performance should still be improved. This paper proposes a novel synchronization algorithm for dual cylinders used in a mold oscillator. The master-slave concept is applied to the target reference position, that is, the slave target reference position is controlled to match the slave cylinder's position with the master cylinder's position. In the simulation based on a Simulink model, the proposed algorithm shows a better synchronization performance in aspect of the mean of the absolute error and the peak synchronization error.

  • Permanent-Form is one of system forms for reducing human labor, work costs, oscillation, noise, construction wastes and so on. Permanent-Form is made from precast method in facilities. and carried in construction site to assemble with no demolding. The biggest expense to produce Permanent-Form is about manufacturing mold. To satisfy various size of building member, the same number of manufacturing mold is needed. In this paper, studied about manufacturing mold module for acquiring economic merit and construction member safety. Permanent-Form is member stress and structural analyzed if temporary equipment were used. The result of this study is below. (1) Column sizes of Permanent-Form are 47 kinds of prototype that based on Modular coordination's basic module. 4 pieces or 6 pieces are composed basically. (2) For beam size modular coordination, standard height and width of beam are 150mm and 100mm. It brings 24 kinds of prototype. 4 pieces or 5 pieces are composed basically. (3) Structural analysis value of modular member is like this Column member shows 9.4 to 85kgf/$cm^{2}$ stress distribution and beam member shows 6.3 to 95kgf/$cm^{2}$ stress distribution. • Measurements of ultrasonic signals caused by partial discharges were perlonnrl by using an ultrasonic measurement technique to diagnose the electrical treeing deterioration in an epoxy mold-type power transformer. We also examined the characteristics of tree growth, partial discharge magnitude and ultrasonic pulse number with the increase of the deterioration time. From these results, it was found that the shape of the tree was a branch-type, and the rates of the tree growth were examined when ac voltages of 16[kV] and 20[kV] were applied Ultrasonic pulse number and discharge magnitude were rapidly increased as the length of the tree grows after the middle stage of the deterioration time, and it appeared that ultrasonic pulse number was proportional to discharge magnitude. Attenuation, time-delaying and directivity characteristics of ultrasonic signals propagated into epoxy resin by using ultrasonic oscillation and receiving systems are also re[prted as a basic data of ultrasonic mesasurements in mold-type power transformer.former.
