Purpose: A thin-layer drying equation was developed to analyze the drying processes of soybeans (white and black beans) and investigate drying conditions by verifying the suitability of existing grain drying equations. Methods: The drying rates of domestic soybeans were measured in a drying experiment using air at a constant temperature and humidity. The drying rate of soybeans was measured at two temperatures, 50 and $60^{\circ}C$, and three relative humidities, 30, 40 and 50%. Experimental constants were determined for the selected thin layer drying models (Lewis, Page, Thompson, and moisture diffusion models), which are widely used for predicting the moisture contents of grains, and the suitability of these models was compared. The suitability of each of the four drying equations was verified using their predicted values for white beans as well as the determination coefficient ($R^2$) and the root mean square error (RMSE) of the experiment results. Results: It was found that the Thompson model was the most suitable for white beans with a $R^2$ of 0.97 or greater and RMSE of 0.0508 or less. The Thompson model was also found to be the most suitable for black beans, with a $R^2$ of 0.97 or greater and an RMSE of 0.0308 or less. Conclusions: The Thompson model was the most appropriate prediction drying model for white and black beans. Empirical constants for the Thompson model were developed in accordance with the conditions of drying temperature and relative humidity.

Contents of moisture, sugar and saponin, and color intensity of red ginseng tea (RGT) prepared at various drying conditions were investigated for quality evaluation. 1. The sorption isotherm of RGT showed step-wise isotherm. 2. The moisture content of RGT dried at $80,\;90\;and\;105^{\circ}C$ reached at nearly constant values below 1.5% after 3 hours. 3. The HPLC patterns of sugar and saponin at various drying temperatures were quality same but different in quantity. 4. The color intensity of RGT was changed little below $80^{\circ}C$, but significantly above $90^{\circ}C$. 5. A significant relationship was found between decrease of sugar content and increase of color intensity above $80^{\circ}C$.

In this study, baked rice donuts with added psyllium seed husk were manufactured and their quality and retrogradation characteristics were investigated. Control (Con) was made only with wheat flour; Psyllium seed husk in the amount of 8, 12, 16 and 20 grams was added to make rice donuts (P8, P12, P16 and P20). Higher amounts of psyllium seed husk reduced the moisture loss and baking loss, and increased the moisture content and water holding capacity of the donuts. The specific volume of Con was the highest of all the groups. As the amount of psyllium seed husk increased, the lightness and yellowness of the crumb decreased, and the redness of the crumb increased. Hardness also increased as the amount of psyllium seed husk increased. The hardness of P16 was the most similar to that of Con. The scanning electron microscopy images also identified that the structure of the donuts got denser as the amount of psyllium seed husk increased. Rate constant (k) of the rice donuts with psyllium seed husk were lower than that of Con. In conclusion, it is considered that P16 is the sample that is the most similar to Con in terms of texture, but the retrogradation was more retarded in P16 than Con.
This study was performed to examine the drying characteristics of apples at various drying conditions. Air velocity has no effect on the drying rate except the constant rate period. In this experiment the diffusion coefficients of moisture in the apple tissue were in the range of $1.1470-2.2148{\times}10cm^2/sec$. As a result of balance of heat and mass transfer during the falling rate period. an empirical equation based on Fick's law was obtained as follows; $log{\Delta}t\;=\;log\;t_o\;-\;D{\frac{{\pi}^2{\theta}}{4d.}}$ This equation can be used to calculate the temperature of apples during the falling rate period, provided the diffusion coefficients of apple are known. The experimental values of the internal moisture distribution during apple dehydration were nearly in accord with the theoretical values.

The effect of high temperature-moisture on corrosion and mechanical properties for Sn-0.7Cu, Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu (SAC305) solders on flexible substrate was studied using Highly Accelerated Temperature/Humidity Stress Test (HAST) followed by three-point bending test. Both Sn-0.7Cu and SAC305 solders produced the internal $SnO_2$ oxides. Corrosion occurred between the solder and water film near flexible circuit board/copper component. For the SAC305 solder with Ag content, furthermore, octahedral corrosion products were formed near Ag3Sn. For the SAC305 and Sn-0.7Cu solders, the amount of internal oxide increased with the HAST time and the amount of internal oxides was mostly constant regardless of Ag content. The size of the internal oxide was larger for the Sn-0.7Cu solder. Despite of different size of the internal oxide, the fracture time during three-point bending test was not significantly changed. It was because the bending crack was always initiated from the three-point corner of the chip. However, the crack propagation depended on the oxides between the flexible circuit board and the Cu chip. The fracture time of the three-point bending test was dependent more on the crack initiation than on the crack propagation.
This study was performed to investigate the change in the chemical components of red pepper powder using different packaging materials and various storage conditions. Red pepper powders with 11 and 15% initial moisture content were packed with five different materials and stored at different temperatures (0, 20, and 30 C) for a one year period. Over the storage period, each combination was periodically sampled, and examined for composition changes. The five packaging materials were: linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE), nylon/LLDPE(Ny/LLDPE), saran coated ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer/linear low density polyethylene(B650), nylon/Tie/nylon/ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer/nylon/Tie/LLDPE(RDX-2787) and oriented polypropylene/alumimum/LLDPE(OPP/Al/LLDPE), and the three storage conditions were (28.3${\pm}$1.0)$^{\circ}C$ with (15.5${\pm}$2.8)% relative humidity, (18.6${\pm}$0.5)$^{\circ}C$ with (46.6${\pm}$4.9)% RH, and (0${\pm}$2)$^{\circ}C$ with (80${\pm}$10)% RH, respectively. The moisture contents of all samples changed according to the relative storage humidity, except those of the samples packed with OPP/Al/LLDPE, which remained constant throughout the storage period. The capsaicinoids content of the red pepper powder did not change significantly for 6 months, but gradually decreased after that until about 85% of the original amount remained at the final stage of storage. The ASTA color values of all samples decreased gradually throughout the storage period. The higher the storage temperature, the more severe the deterioration. The color deterioration seemed greatly related to the existence of oxygen, as the deterioration was especially severe in the samples packed with LLDPE and B650, where the oxygen transmission rate were highest among the five packaging materials.

Automation of greenhouses has proved to be extremely helpful in maximizing crop yields and minimizing labor costs. The optimum conditions for cultivating plants are regularly maintained by the use of programmed sensors and actuators with constant monitoring of the system. In this paper, we have designed a prototype of a smart greenhouse using Arduino microcontroller, simple yet improved in feedbacks and algorithms. Only three important microclimatic parameters namely moisture level, temperature and light are taken into consideration for the design of the system. Signals acquired from the sensors are first isolated and filtered to reduce noise before it is processed by Arduino. With the help of LabVIEW program, Time domain analysis and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the acquired signals are done to analyze the waveform. Especially, for smoothing the outlying data digitally, Moving average algorithm is designed. With the implement of this algorithm, variations in the sensed data which could occur from rapidly changing environment or imprecise sensors, could be largely smoothed and stable output could be created. Also, actuators are controlled with constant feedbacks to ensure desired conditions are always met. Lastly, data is constantly acquired by the use of Data Acquisition Hardware and can be viewed through PC or Smart devices for monitoring purposes.

An enthalpy exchanger in which heat and moisture transfer occur between the indoor and outdoor air operates at various outdoor conditions. In this study, the effect of the outdoor-air temperature and humidity on the performance of an enthalpy exchanger was experimentally investigated. An apparatus was specially-made to accurately measure the incoming and outgoing dry- and wet-bulb air temperatures as well as the flow rates. Tests were conducted in constant-temperature and constant-humidity chambers at different outdoor temperatures and humidities. It is shown that the effectiveness of latent-heat exchange increases as the relative humidity increases; further, this effect exhibited minimal dependence on the absolute humidity. However, the effectiveness of sensible-heat exchange is independent of both temperature and humidity
The oxygen permeability and it's proofness of te various commercial polymer films have been investigated at the constant pressure and temperature. Oxygen proofness, the reciprocals of the oxygen permeability for the various samples, were determined by means of a coulometric oxygen permeability tester. The testing of sample films was performed at constant temperature $(23{\pm}1^{\circ}C)$ under 1 atm. for 24 hours. The order of the relative proofness observed are as follows; oriented Nylon (O. Nylon)> oriented Polyester (O. PET)>nonoriented Nylon (N. For the use of wrapping materials, one film with the polar property in the main chain of the polymer molecule and the others with nonpolar property in it are laminated for the protection from oxygen and moisture.

Nowadays water shortage is becoming one of the biggest problems in the Korea. Many different methods are developed for conservation of water. Soil water management has become the most indispensable factor for augmenting the crop productivity especially on soybean (Glycine max L.) because of their high susceptibility to both water stress and water logging at various growth stages. The farmers have been using irrigation techniques through manual control which farmers irrigate lands at regular intervals. Automatic irrigation systems are convenient, especially for those who need to travel. If automatic irrigation systems are installed and programmed properly, they can even save you money and help in water conservation. Automatic irrigation systems can be programmed to provide automatic irrigation to the plants which helps in saving money and water and to discharge more precise amounts of water in a targeted area, which promotes water conservation. The objective of this study was to determine the possible effect of automatic irrigation systems based on soil moisture on soybean growth. This experiment was conducted on an upland field with sandy loam soils in Department of Southern Area Crop, NICS, RDA. The study had three different irrigation methods; sprinkle irrigation (SI), surface drip irrigation (SDI) and fountain irrigation (FI). SI was installed at spacing of $7{\times}7m$ and $1.8m^3/hr$ as square for per irrigation plot, a lateral pipe of SDI was laid down to 1.2 m row spacing with $2.3L\;h^{-1}$ discharge rate, the distance between laterals was 20 cm spacing between drippers and FI was laid down in 3m interval as square for per irrigation plot. Soybean (Daewon) cultivar was sown in the June $20^{th}$, 2016, planted in 2 rows of apart in 1.2 m wide rows and distance between hills was 20 cm. All agronomic practices were done as the recommended cultivation. This automatic irrigation system had valves to turn irrigation on/off easily by automated controller, solenoids and moisture sensor which were set the reference level as available soil moisture levels of 30% at 10cm depth. The efficiency of applied irrigation was obtained by dividing the total water stored in the effective root zone to the applied irrigation water. Results showed that seasonal applied irrigation water amounts were $60.4ton\;10a^{-1}$ (SI), $47.3ton\;10a^{-1}$ (SDI) and $92.6 ton\;10a^{-1}$ (FI), respectively. The most significant advantage of SDI system was that water was supplied near the root zone of plants drip by drip. This system saved a large quantity of water by 27.5% and 95.6% compared to SI, FI system. The average soybean yield was significantly affected by different irrigation methods. The soybean yield by different irrigation methods were $309.7kg\;10a^{-1}$ from SDI $282.2kg\;10a^{-1}$ from SI, $289.4kg\;10a^{-1}$ from FI, and $206.3kg\;10a^{-1}$ from control, respectively. SDI resulted in increase of soybean yield by 50.1%, 7.0% 9.8% compared to non-irrigation (control), FI and SI, respectively. Therefore, the automatic irrigation system supplied water only when the soil moisture in the soil went below the reference. Due to the direct transfer of water to the roots water conservation took place and also helped to maintain the moisture to soil ratio at the root zone constant. Thus the system is efficient and compatible to changing environment. The automatic irrigation system provides with several benefits and can operate with less manpower. In conclusion, improving automatic irrigation system can contribute greatly to reducing production costs of crops and making the industry more competitive and sustainable.
