  • This research conducted to investigate the variation of the moisture content, crack ratio, and hardness of the whole and cracked brown rice after conditioning at the initial moisture content of 13, 14, and 15% with time lapse. The conditioning was conducted by increasing the moisture content of the sample to 0.4 and 0.8%. For basic information and conditioning characteristics for the development of a conditioning machine for the brown rice, predicted models of above three properties were developed using a nonlinear regression analysis of SAS with Gauss-Newton, Gradient, and DUD methods. Results of this research could be summarized as follows. 1. No moisture variation occurred after 0.5 hour conditioning. 2. The increasement of the crack ratio was 7.6 and 17.5% with the sample increased the moisture content of 0.4 and 0.8%, respectively, after 8 hours conditioning. 3. The hardness of the conditioned whole grain of the brown rice decreased 0.82 and 1,000kg$\_$f/ with the sample increased moisture content 0.4 and 0.8%, respectively, after 8 hours conditioning with respect to the non-conditioned sample. 4. The hardness of the conditioned cracked grain of the brown rice decreased 0.54 and 0.81kg$\_$f/ with the sample increased moisture content 0.4 and 0.8%, respectively, after 8 hours conditioning with respect to the non-conditioned sample. The hardness of the broken grain was about 0.81∼1.88kg$\_$f/ lower than whole grain. 5. The moisture content variation, increasing rate of the crack ratio, and hardness of the cracked and whole grain was predicted as a negative exponential function. 6. Each predicted model with the nonlinear regression analysis, which was very accurate and had a very small amount of sum of square of error between experimental value and predicted value, which could be used for predicting the physical variation after conditioning.

  • This study performed experimental research to visualize the moisture content absorbed in R-22, refrigerant of refrigerator. Sulfuric acids were mixed with bromothylmol blue solution to make indicating solutions, and humidity papers were prepared by impregnation of the indicating solutions into solid supporters. Prior to the impregnation, small amount of lithium chloride was added into indicating solution. Moisture measuring cell was composed to test sensitivity of the humidity papers. Color changing characteristics of the humidity papers were also examined at various moisture contents in R-22. Color of the humidity paper varied linearly with the moisture content in R-22 in the range from 150 ppm to 300 ppm. The humidity papers showed complete color change to yellow at the moisture content of 300 ppm within 8 hours.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the moisture content and pellet mill type on the physical and chemical characteristics of Italian ryegrass (IRG) pellet. Moisture content of raw material significantly (p<0.05) affected IRG pellet formation. Moisture content at 25% was the best condition for IRG pellet formation in terms of shape, power load and temperature changes. The hardness of pellet was decreased when moisture content was increase. However, the hardness of pellet was not affected by pellet mill type. Moisture content at 30% dramatically (p<0.05) decreased the durability compared to moisture content at 25%. Dry matter content of IRG pellet was increased (p<0.05) after pelleting. Total count of microorganism was decreased in pellet due to pressure heat and moisture losses during the pelleting process. These results indicated that the proper moisture content of Italian ryegrass pelleting would be at 25%. In addition, Roll & flat die type would be more suitable than Ring die and Die & flat die type in IRG pelleting. Pelleting works would be beneficial for improving forage quality and long storage.

  • This study was carried out to develop a miller to produce white embryo rice with functional nutrients by improving the conventional vertical miller. The effects of rice moisture content and the shaft revolution speed of the miller on germ(embryo) adherence rate, whiteness, broken rice rate, and cracked rice rate were investigated. Also, the effect of the mesh size of emery stones on the germ adherence rate was investigated. The vertical prototype miller was improved with the increasement of about 42% in producing white embryo rice at proper conditions(shaft revolution speed of 900 rpm, emery stones of mesh #50, processing capacity of 2.3t/h, zero outlet resistance, rice moisture content of 16.2%). The results were as follows: 1. The germ adherence rate of white rice was significantly influenced by the moisture content of brown rice. The germ adherence rate of white rice decreased rapidly with the increase of the moisture content of brown rice. When brown rice with moisture content of 13.2%, 14.5%, 15.2%, 15.4% was milled by the prototype with emery stones of mesh #35 and shaft speed of 900(1,100) rpm, rpm adherence rate of milled rice was 76.2%(70%), 69.2%(66%), 45.9(38%), 13.0(9%), respectively. 2. The whiteness of white rice milled by the prototype with emery stones of mesh #35 and shaft speed of 1,100(900)rpm increased from 27(23) to about 40, respectively, as the moisture content of brown rice increased from 13.2% to 17.2%. 3. The rate of broken rice of white rice milled at 900rpm decreased by 0.6∼1.0% compared with that at 1,100rpm when the moisture content of brown rice was less than 15.2%. 4. The germ adherence rate was increased by 10.3% and 11.0%, respectively when brown rice with moisture content of 16.2% and 15.5% was milled by the prototype miller with shaft speed of 900rpm and emery stones of mesh #50 instead of mesh #35. 5. Considering the germ adherence rate, broken rice rate, and whiteness of milled rice, the proper milling conditions of the prototype miller for producing embryo rice were the moisture content of about 15%, the processing capacity of 2.3t/h and minimum outlet resistance of 0Nㆍm with shaft speed of 900rpm and emery stones of mesh #50.

  • In this study, the moisture content of the face skin was changed according to the number of skin applications for female college students under 25 years of age. Moisture contents were measured using a skin moisture meter (skin oil and moisture meter, PRC, China). Skin used 500ml of Innisfree's blueberry rebalancing skin as a clinical trial material. Both the forehead, eyes, cheeks, and chin had a higher moisture content after one layer of application than before and after one layer of application, and after ten layers of application, it can be seen that the moisture content is higher. As a result, when applying basic products after washing your face, the first step is to increase the number of skins, and then apply basic products such as lotion and moisturizing cream to increase the moisture content.

  • This study compared and analyzed the thermal characteristics based on the ratio of moisture content of infected and non-infected Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus by heat of combustion experiment. The experiment results are as follows. The analysisresult of the ratio of water content shows that 19.92% on average for infected Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus and 26.27% for non-infected which decreases water content as the size of conduction, convection, and radiant heat increases in case of fire. As the vaporization of the moisture content accelerates, the average moisture content is reached, and the result is contrary to the thermal characteristics of the wood that the moisture content is not ignited by a heat source when the moisture content is under 15%. The combustion heat analysis result showed that infected and non-infected Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus had no significant difference in combustion heat at about 3%. However, it shows that combustion heat is higher than other species. In conclusion, decreasing in moisture content based on the increasing conduction, convection, and radiant heat is one of the direct causes of ignition, and the lower the moisture content, the faster the fire spreads.
