  • This paper shows the possibility of the application of the orientation density function of fibers to the mechanics of fibrous assembly. As an example, the orientation density function of a single yarn was theoretically derived in consideration of the idealized helical yarn. And the theoretical derivation of the tensile modulus of the fibrous assembly was performed in view of the fiber orientation. Application of this orientation density function to the obtained tensile modulus and to the contraction factor of the yarn was also performed so that the theoretical equations of the tensile modulus and the contraction factor of the yarn were obtained. Close agreement was shown between the theoretical and the existing equations. Consequently it was confirmed that the application of the orientation density function to the mechanics of the fibrous assembly is sufficiently possible.

  • Electrorheological(ER) fluid's storage shear modulus(G') and loss factor(${\eta}$) have been directly measured using small amplitude forced oscillating rheometer as a function of oscillating frequency, strain amplitude and applied electric field. Two types of experiment were performed , (a) frequency sweep and (b) amplitude sweep. Two kinds of sample were employed for this experiment ; cornstarch particles in corn oil and zeolite particles in silicone oil. The storage shear modulus was a strong function of driving frequency. Generally, the modulus increased with driving frequency. On the other hand, the loss factor was not well behaved as storage modulus, but as the driving frequency increases the loss factor slightly decreases was the trend of the material's characteristics. Also the modulus was a strong function of strain amplitude. Generally, modulus decreased with increasing strain, but loss factor increases slightly with increasing strain amplitude. For G', cornstarch in corn oil ER fluid has higher values than zeolite based fluid as we increased applied electric field. On the other hand, zeolite based fluid has higher values for ${\eta}$. There is a reasonable agreement between theoretical calculation and experiment.

  • In this paper, we investigate the extent of the set on which the modulus of a meromorphic function is lower bounded by a term related to some Nevanlinna Theory functionals. A. I. Shcherba estimate the size of the set on which the modulus of an entire function is lower bounded by 1. Our theorem in this paper shows that the same result holds in the case that the lower bound is replaced by$lT(r,f)$, $0{\leq}l$ < 1, which improves Shcherba's result. We also give a similar estimation for meromorphic functions.

  • Two improvements are discussed in measurement of the complex Young's modulus of the acoustic materials by using the transfer function method. It is found that the accelerometer misalignment might result in the severe measurement error, particularly in high frequency range. The supporting structure is modified to attach the upper and lower accelerometers along the vertical axis. Secondly, the method fur solving the equation associated with wave model is described. The solution of the lumped mass-spring model is chosen as the starting value for low frequency range, while in the mid and high frequency, the solution to the previous frequency step is used as the initial values. Measurements are done for hard and soft rubber specimens. It is shown that the erroneous peaks in the transfer function, due to the measurement error, cause highly incorrect Young's modulus and loss factors.

  • In this paper, we plan to introduce the class of the analytic functions called 𝒫 (b) and to investigate the various properties of the functions belonging this class. The modulus of the second coefficient c2 in the expansion of f(z) = z+c2z2+… belonging to the given class will be estimated from above. Also, we estimate a modulus of the second angular derivative of f(z) function at the boundary point 𝛼 with f'(𝛼) = 1 - b, b ∈ ℂ, by taking into account their first nonzero two Maclaurin coefficients.

  • Fatigue life prediction of matrix dominated composite laminates, which have a nonlinear stress/strain response, was studied analytically and experimentally. A stress function describing the relation of initial fatigue modulus and elastic modulus was used in order to consider the material nonlinearty. New modified fatigue life prediction equation was suggested based on the fatigue modulus and reference modulus concept as a function of applied stress. The prediction was verified by torsional fatigue test using crossply carbon/epoxy laminate tubes. It was shown that the proposed equation has wide applicability and good agreement with experimental data.

  • In 2006, Zhang and Wang proposed a data hiding scheme based on Exploiting Modification Direction (EMD) to increase data hiding capacity. The major benefit of EMD is providing embedding capacity greater than 1 bit per pixel. Since then, many EMD-type data hiding schemes have been proposed. However, a serious disadvantage common to these approaches is that the embedded data is compromised when the embedding function is disclosed. Our proposed secure data hiding scheme remedies this disclosure shortcoming by employing an additional modulus function. The provided security analysis of our scheme demonstrates that attackers cannot get the secret information from the stegoimage even if the embedding function is made public. Furthermore, our proposed scheme also gives a simple solution to the overflow/underflow problem and maintains high embedding capacity and good stegoimage quality.

  • This paper compare the adaptive equalization performance according to the values of adaptive step variation speed for adapting in VS-CCA (Variable Stepsize-Compact Constellation Algorithm) based on nonlinear function function of error signal. The VS-CCA algorithm compacts the 16-QAM nonconstant modulus signal into the 4 groups of 4-QAM constant modulus signal constellation in quadature plane, then the error signal is generated using the constant modulus of transmitted signal statistics. The adaptive equalizer coefficient were updated in order to achieve the minimum cost function by varying step based on the nonlinear function of error signal. In this time, the instantaneous adaptive step is determined according to the value of step variation speed of nonlinear function and the different equalization performance were obtained according to the step variation speed value. The equalizer internal index and external index which represents the robustness of external noise were used for the performance comparison index. As a result of computer simulation, it was confirmed that the value of variation speed less than 1.0 give more superior in every performance index compared to the greater than 1.0 in steady state.

  • We investigate the approximation order to a function in $L_p$[-1, 1] for $0{\leq}p<{\infty}$ by generalized translation networks. In most papers related to neural network approximation, sigmoidal functions are adapted as an activation function. In our research, we choose an infinitely many times continuously differentiable function as an activation function. Using the integral modulus of continuity and the divided difference formula, we get the approximation order to a function in $L_p$[-1, 1].

  • The complex Young's modulus of a viscoelastic material can be obtained as a function of frequency from the measurements of relative motion between the two ends of a bar-type specimen. Non-resonance method is usually used to obtain the complex Young's modulus over wide range of frequency including resonance points, while in resonance method information at resonance frequencies only is used. However, the complex Young's modulus obtained by the non-resonance method is often unreliable in the anti-resonance frequency regions because of the measurement noise problems. In this study, the effects of the random measurement errors on estimating the complex Young's modulus are studied in the aspect of sensitivity, and how to obtain the reliable frequency region for a given measurement error level is shown. The usable frequency regions in determining the complex Young's modulus are represented by a non-dimensional parameter formed with the wave length and specimen length.
