  • Promoter prediction is a very important problem and is closely related to the main problems of bioinformatics such as the construction of gene regulatory networks and gene function annotation. In this context, we developed an integrated promoter prediction program using hybrid methods, PromoterWizard, which can be employed to detect the core promoter region and the transcription start site (TSS) in vertebrate genomic DNA sequences, an issue of obvious importance for genome annotation efforts. PromoterWizard consists of three main modules and two auxiliary modules. The three main modules include CDRM (Composite Dependency Reflecting Model) module, SVM (Support Vector Machine) module, and ICM (Interpolated Context Model) module. The two auxiliary modules are CpG Island Detector and GCPlot that may contribute to improving the predictive accuracy of the three main modules and facilitating human curator to decide on the final annotation.

  • The amplitude error of phase modulator used in closed-loop fiber optic gyroscope has occurred by the temperature dependency of the electro-optic coefficient, and also can be due to the square-wave dither signal which is generally applied for eliminating the deadzone. This error can cause bias drift and scale factor error. This paper analyzes the temperature dependency of the modulation amplitude and the relationship with the scale factor of the gyroscope, and deals with an amplitude control method. The error calculation logic considering the dither signal is implemented on the signal processing module. The result of experiments from a prototype gyroscope shows the effect of the modulation amplitude control and a considerable improvement on performances.

Representative ultrasonic module applied in existing was Polaroid company's 6500 series and Devantech company's SRF04/SRF08 series. This ultrasonic sensors are corrupted by systematic errors due mainly to the dependency of sound speed upon surrounding conditions and random errors of uncertain origin. Therefore Ultrasonic distance detecting means of error compensation method and high definition, narrow beam angle, board area distance detecting means to apply to ultrasonic mobile robot control urgently need. In this paper use internal type temperature compensation method to improve problem of ultrasonic distance measurement method instead of that volume that have shortcoming of used correct temperature compensation methods applied big addition device. • Usually, the AC loss from the superconducting element of an SFCL due to the load current is very small because it is composed of the combination of bifilar windings with very small reactance. Although the AC loss is small enough, we should be albe to predict for the design and control of the cryogenic system. In fact, an SFCL for the transmission voltage class may not generate ignorable AC loss because of the inevitable space between the HTS wires for the high voltage insulation and cryogenic efficiency. To measure the AC loss dependency on the space between the 2G HTS wires with the width of 4.4 mm, we prepared an experimental setup which could adjust the distance between the wires. We used two 500-mm length HTS wires in parallel and applied the current in the opposite direction for each wire to simulate a part of a current limiting module for a high voltage SFCL. We also put two couples of voltage taps at the ends of each wire and a cancel coil in the voltage measurement circuit to compensate the reactive component from the voltage taps. In this condition, we varied the distance between the wires to investigate the change of the transport current loss. A similar experimental study with HTS wire with the width of 12 mm is now in progress.

  • This paper describes a preliminary work on prosody modeling aspect of a text-to-speech system for Thai. Specifically, the model is designed to predict symbolic markers from text (i.e., prosodic phrase boundaries, accent, and intonation boundaries), and then using these markers to generate pitch, intensity, and durational patterns for the synthesis module of the system. In this paper, a novel method for annotating the prosodic structure of Thai sentences based on dependency representation of syntax is presented. The goal of the annotation process is to predict from text the rhythm of the input sentence when spoken according to its intended meaning. The encoding of the prosodic structure is established by minimizing speech disrhythmy while maintaining the congruency with syntax. That is, each word in the sentence is assigned a prosodic feature called strength dynamic which is based on the dependency representation of syntax. The strength dynamics assigned are then used to obtain rhythmic groupings in terms of a phonological unit called foot. Finally, the foot structure is used to predict the durational pattern of the input sentence. The aforementioned process has been tested on a set of ambiguous sentences, which represents various structural ambiguities involving five types of compounds in Thai.

  • In this article we present a rapid development of a Korean to English translation system, by the help of general English generator, PENMAN. PENMAN is an English sentence generation system, of which input language is a language specially devised for sentence generation, named Sentence Planning Language(SPL). The language SPL has various features that are necessary for generating sentences, covering both syntactic and semantic features. In this development we integrated a Korean language parser based on dependency grammar and the English sentence generator PENMAN, bridging two systems through a converting module, which converts dependency structures produced by Korean parser into SPL for PENMAN.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest improvement of web environment to supplement dependency of silver generation as we have aged super aged society ahead. In order to improve web environment for silver generation which has more various obstacles than common people, I examined methods to increase accessibility and usability through expansion of web interface by reinforcing contents structure and function. As a result, the try to increase web usability of web sites related to silver generation was positive, but interface designs are not unified which requires users to learn new skills, and developer produce designs that are not standardized. Therefore, I suggest web environment improvement methods to guide silver generation to be adapted to information society by suggesting solutions such as support for module of operation system and establishment of standardized design.

  • NDIR $CO_2$ gas sensor was built with ASIC implemented thermopile sensor which included temperature sensor and unique elliptical waveguide structures in this paper. The temperature dependency of dual infrared sensor module ($CO_2$ and reference IR sensors) has been characterized and its output voltage characteristics according to the temperature and gas concentration were proposed for the first time. NDIR $CO_2$ gas and reference IR sensors showed linear output voltages according to the variation of ambient temperatures from 243 K to 333 K and their slopes were 14.2 mV/K and 8.8 mV/K, respectively. The output voltages of temperature sensor also presented a linear dependency according to the ambient temperature and could be described with V(T)=-3.191+0.0148T(V). The output voltage ratio between $CO_2$ and reference IR sensors revealed irrelevant to the changes of ambient temperatures and gave a constant value around 1.6255 with standard deviation 0.008 at 0 ppm. The output voltage of $CO_2$ gas sensor at zero ppm $CO_2$ gas consisted of two components; one is caused by the HPB (half pass-band) of IR filter and the other is attributed to the part of $CO_2$ absorption wavelength. The characteristics of output voltages of $CO_2$ gas sensor could be accurately modeled with three parameters which are dependent upon the ambient temperatures and represented small average error less than 1.5% with 5% standard deviation.

  • This paper introduce a Koran-Japanese machine translation system which is a module in the spoken language interpreting system It is implemented based on the TDMT(Transfre Driven Machine Translation). We define a new unit of translation so called TOKEN. The TOKEN-based translation method resolves nonstructural feature in Korean sentences and increases the quaity of translating results. In our system, we get rid of useless effort for traditional parsing by performing semi-parsing. The semi-parser makes the dependency tree which has minimum information needed generating module. We constructed the generation dictionaries by using the corpus obtained from ETRI spoken language database. Our system was tested with 600 utterances which is collected from travel planning domain The success-ratio of our system is 87% on restricted testing environment and 71% on unrestricted testing environment.

  • Cohesion refers to the degree of the relatedness of the members in a class and it is widely accepted that the higher the cohesion of a module is, the easier the module to understand and maintain. Recently, several cohesion measures have been proposed to measure the cohesiveness of classes in an object-oriented program. In this paper, we propose an approach to improving the existing cohesion measures by considering the impact of write dependencies between class members. We have developed a cohesion measurement tool for supporting our approach and describe a case study performed with a C++ class library.
