The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has emerged as a key component in HVDC systems due to its ability to efficiently transmit large amounts of power over long distances. In such systems, accurate estimation of the MMC capacitor voltage is of utmost importance for ensuring optimal system performance, stability, and reliability. Traditional methods for voltage estimation may face limitations in accuracy and robustness, prompting the need for innovative approaches. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed neural network observer specifically designed for MMC capacitor voltage estimation. Our observer harnesses the power of a multi-layer neural network architecture, which enables the observer to learn and adapt to the complex dynamics of the MMC system. By utilizing a distributed approach, we deploy multiple observers, each with its own set of neural network layers, to collectively estimate the capacitor voltage. This distributed configuration enhances the accuracy and robustness of the voltage estimation process. A crucial aspect of our observer's performance lies in the meticulous initialization of random weights within the neural network. This initialization process ensures that the observer starts with a solid foundation for efficient learning and accurate voltage estimation. The observer iteratively updates its weights based on the observed voltage and current values, continuously improving its estimation accuracy over time. The validity of proposed algorithm is verified by the result of estimated voltage at each observer in capacitor of MMC.

In this paper, we propose the new algorithm which can design on the optimal structure of modular system. This system is composed to the wavelet neural network in order to simplify the structure of modular system and use the time-frequency analysis. We will determine the number of module and node of each sub-system using the proposed algorithm. This algorithm provides the methodology, which we will design optimal structure of modular wavelet neural network through analyzing the character of system. We apply the proposed new structure and algorithm to approximation problem and evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed system and algorithm.
In this article we present modular neural control for a leg-wheel hybrid robot consisting of three legs with omnidirectional wheels. This neural control has four main modules having their functional origin in biological neural systems. A minimal recurrent control (MRC) module is for sensory signal processing and state memorization. Its outputs drive two front wheels while the rear wheel is controlled through a velocity regulating network (VRN) module. In parallel, a neural oscillator network module serves as a central pattern generator (CPG) controls leg movements for sidestepping. Stepping directions are achieved by a phase switching network (PSN) module. The combination of these modules generates various locomotion patterns and a reactive obstacle avoidance behavior. The behavior is driven by sensor inputs, to which additional neural preprocessing networks are applied. The complete neural circuitry is developed and tested using a physics simulation environment. This study verifies that the neural modules can serve a general purpose regardless of the robot's specific embodiment. We also believe that our neural modules can be important components for locomotion generation in other complex robotic systems or they can serve as useful modules for other module-based neural control applications.
This paper presents a modular structure design of analog Hopfield neural network. Each multiplier consists of four MOS transistors which are connected to an op-amp at the front end of a neuron. A pair of MOS transistor is used in order to maintain linear operation of the synapse and can produce positive or negative synaptic weight. This architecture can be expandable to any size neural network by forming tree structure. By altering the connections, other nework paradigms can also be implemented using this basic modules. The stength of this approach is the expandability and the general applicability. The layout design of a four-neuron fully connected feedback neural network is presented and is simulated using SPICE. The network shows correct retrival of distorted patterns.

Nonlinear Function Approximation of Moduled Neural Network Using Genetic Algorithm Neural Network consists of neuron and synapse. Synapse memorize last pattern and study new pattern. When Neural Network learn new pattern, it tend to forget previously learned pattern. This phenomenon is called to catastrophic inference or catastrophic forgetting. To overcome this phenomenon, Neural Network must be modularized. In this paper, we propose Moduled Neural Network. Modular Neural Network consists of two Neural Network. Each Network individually study different pattern and their outputs is finally summed by net function. Sometimes Neural Network don't find global minimum, but find local minimum. To find global minimum we use Genetic Algorithm.

In this paper, we propose an growing and pruning algorithm to design the adaptive structure of modular wavelet neural network(MWNN) with F-projection and geometric growing criterion. Geometric growing criterion consists of estimated error criterion considering local error and angel criterion which attempts to assign wavelet function that is nearly orthogonal to all other existing wavelet functions. There criteria provide a methodology that a network designer can constructs wavelet neural network according to one s intention. The proposed growing algorithm grows the module and the size of modules. Also, the pruning algorithm eliminates unnecessary node of module or module from constructed MWNN to overcome the problem due to localized characteristics of wavelet neural network which is used to modules of MWNN. We apply the proposed constructing algorithm of the adaptive structure of MWNN to approximation problems of 1-D function and 2-D function, and evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

There are two important things for the general purpose neural network processor. The first is a capability to build various structures of neural network, and the second is to be able to support suitable learning method for that neural network. Some way to process various learning algorithms is required for on-chip learning, because the more neural network types are to be handled, the more learning methods need to be built into. In this paper, an improved hardware structure is proposed to compute various kinds of learning algorithms flexibly. The hardware structure is based on the existing modular neural network structure. It doesn't need to add a new circuit or a new program for the learning process. It is shown that rearrangements of the existing processing elements can produce several neural network learning modules. The performance and utilization of this module are analyzed by comparing with other neural network chips.
In this paper, we analyzed and compared the performances of modular FFMLP(feedforward multilayer perceptron) and SVUT(Support Vector Machine) for the large-set classification problems. Overall, SVM dominated modular FFMLP in the correct recognition rate and other aspects Additionally, the recognition rate of SVM degraded more slowly than neural network as the number of classes increases. The trend of the recognition rates depending on the rejection rate has been analyzed. The parameter set of SVM(kernel functions and related variables) has been identified for the large-set classification problems.
The prediction of protein function basically make use of a protein-protein interaction map based on the concept of guilt-by-association. The method however cannot determine the functions of proteins in case that the target protein does not interact with proteins with known functions directly. This paper studies protein function prediction considering the given problem as a K-class classification problem and proposes a predictive approach utilizing a modular neural network. The proposed method uses interaction data and protein related attributes as well. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can predict the functional roles of Yeast proteins whose interaction knowledge is not known and shows better performance than the graph-based models that use protein interaction data.
