This study is on the performance analysis of modified asphalts which were prepared by mixing the asphalt with polymer modifiers of varying compositions which were synthesized by the emulsion polymerization method. Thermal properties of mired asphalt were investigated by DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), and dispersion of modifiers in asphalt was investigated by the fluorescence microscope. Dynamic stability and permanent deformation velocities of mixed asphalt were investigated by wheel tracking measurements. Modifier 6 showed the best results in both penetration test and wheel tracking measurement among investigated modifiers, which supports MMA(methyl methacrylate) moiety in modifiers plays better contribution for the enhancement of asphalt performance than styrene moiety does.

An investigation was conducted to determine whether the rumen modifiers lasalocid and avoparcin, when included in molasses/urea based supplements, enhanced liveweight performance, in early weaned calves. As part of the study the broad-spectrum parasiticle Avermectin B1 was given to the calves to assess any undesirable side effects on animals of less than four months of age. There were no significant (p>0.05) liveweight responses to supplementation when the rumen modifiers lasalocid and avoparcin were included in supplement rations. Lasalocid reduced supplement intake, however, it had no adverse effect on liveweight gain. Avoparcin substantially improved growth when cottonseed meal was included in the ration. Weaners treated with Avermectin B1 tended to show a greater liveweight gain than untreated weaners during the experiment (p<0.10) and no adverse side effects were noted.

Nanoporous silica aerogels with various surface modifiers were prepared by ambient drying process. Tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) were used a raw material. Ambient drying process for various surface modifier was studied in the point of view of a crack-free monolith and thin films and low cost. Various kinds of surface modifiers like as hexamethyldisilazane (HMDSZ), trimethlychlorosilane (TMCS), methlytriethoxylsilane (MTES), and methlytrimethoxysilane (MTMS) were studied in order to enhance hydrophobicity for the silica aerogel. Surface modified aerogels were evaluated by FT-IR, TG, BET, SEM and wetting angle measurement. Homogeneous and crack-free aerogels were obtained by modifying the HMDSZ and the TMCS. However silica xerogel was obtained when modified with MTMS, MTES.

Recently a number of social surveys on community response to environmental noises have been conducted. Since standardized noise annoyance scales were needed to compare the results from various areas. ICBEN(International Commission on Biological of Noise) Team 6 planned a international joint study and constructed comparable standardized noise annoyance scales using the same method. In Korea the survey was conducted in four areas such as Seoul, Taejon, Taegu and Kwangju. About 100 subjects participated in each area approximately. The 21 adverbs were first in the carly survey, and five verbal annoyance modifiers were finally constructed as follows; 1(Jeonhyo), 2(Jokm), 3(Bikyojerk)m, 4(Ajoo), 5(Umcheongnage)

Biological response modifiers (BRMs) can alter interactions between the immune system and cancer cells to boost, direct, or restore the body's ability to fight disease. Mice with ethylnitrosourea- (ENU) induced leukemia were here used to monitor the therapeutic efficacy of lipopolysaccaride (LPS), Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) and sheep erythrocytes (SRBC). Flow cytometry based CD34+ positivity analysis, clonogenicity, proliferation and ultrastructure studies using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of stem cells in ENU induced animals with and without BRMs treatment were performed. BRMs improved the stem-stromal relationship structurally and functionally and might have potential for use as an adjunct in human stem cell therapy.

This paper proposes a Korean-Japanese Machine Translation System that processes unregistered words, modifiers and compound sentences. In mophological analysis, the unregistered words are processed by using unregistered word processing algorithm. The modifiers are processed by consulting noun-attributes and grammar rules. The compound sentence processing algorithm recognizes whether the sentence that includes commas is compound sentence or not. This system performs on IBM-PC/AT DOS using Prolog-1.

Post-translational modifiers can alter the function of proteins in many different ways. The conjugation of ubiquitin (Ub) and ubiqutin-like modifiers (Ubls) to proteins has been shown to be especially crucial in regulating a variety of cellular processes including the cell cycle, growth control, quality control, localization and many more. It is a highly dynamic process and involves a number of enzymes called E1, E2 and E3. Ub and Ubls are removed from the target proteins by deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) or Ubl-specific proteases (ULPs), thereby deconjugation can act as an additional level of control over the ubiquitin-conjugation system. In addition, DUBs and ULPs are responsible for activating Ub and Ubls from their inactive corresponding precursor forms. Here we review recent progress in molecular details of these deconjugating enzymes of Ubls.

This paper provides an analysis of the linear constituent order of the NP in three different types of languages based on 33 languages: the NP with the prenominal modifiers, the NP with the postnominal modifiers, and the NP with both prenominal and postnominal modifiers (the mixed NP). Languages have NPs that feature different linear order, of the NP constituents. We attribute such different linear constituent orders within the NP to the linguistic distance and the limits imposed by the constituency and adjacency. We use the various kinds of alignment constraints which properly reflect the linguistic distance between the noun and each constituent. Language universals on word order provide us some general orders of various NP constituents. If we adopt the linguistic distance, the limits imposed by the constituency and the adjacency, and the alignment constraints, we can explain the complicated differences of NP constituent orders of languages of the world.
