  • In this paper, Modified GPS Kalman filter algorithms which allow user to estimate its position when the number of visible GPS satellites becomes less than four are presented. They are derived using the previous estimation of altitude and clock bias. Thus, it is possible to estimate 3-dimensional user position even when only two GPS satellites are visible. The algorithms are ideally suited to car navigation in urban areas where lack of GPS visibility is the major problem because of the frequent blockage of the GPS signals by tall buildings and other structures. Simulation results in this paper show that modified GPS Kalman filter provide better performances than a general GPS Kalman filter or any other instantaneous GPS solution algorithm, especially in the case which the number of visible GPS satellites becomes less than four.

  • Using the constructive algorithm proposed by Brayton and Tong, we analyze the stability of a modified coupled-form digital filter with quantization and overflow nonlinearities, and find the regions in the parameter plane where the filter is globally asymptotically stable. In these regions, the absence of zero-input limit cycles is ensured. This constructive algorithm gives less conservative stability results than the application of Jury-Lee stability criterion does.

  • The modified Wiener filtering method is proposed for effective noise suppression in edge region of images corrupted by additive white gaussian noise. Although the pixels classified as a edge region in the conventional Wiener filter have lots of noise components, the conventional Wiener filter cannot remove noise effectively due to the preserving of edges. To reduce noise well in edge region, we modify filter coefficients of the conventional Wiener filter. The modified filter coefficients increase in noise suppression effect in edge region, while they preserve edges for strong edge region. From simulation (256${\times}$256 size, 256 graylevel images) filtered images by the proposed method show much improved subjective image quality with higher peak signal-to-noise ratio compared to those by the conventional Wiener filtering.

  • During the transmission process of processing of image, various noises are added causing an error to the image. In order to restore these images, methods such as alpha trimmed average filter, standard median filter and switching median filter were proposed but such previous methods has insufficient noise suppression characteristics. Therefore in this paper, in order to remove the impulse noise added to the image, an adaptive median filter algorithm modified to expand the mask according to the noise density of mask pixels was proposed.

  • A method for estimating the instantaneous phasor of a fault current signal is proposed for high-speed distance protection that is immune to a DC-offset. The method uses a modified notch filter in order to eliminate the power frequency component from the fault current signal. Since the output of the modified notch filter is the delayed DC-offset, delay compensation results in the same waveform as the original DC-offset. Subtracting the obtained DC-offset from the fault current signal yields a sinusoidal waveform, which becomes the real part of the instantaneous phasor. The imaginary part of the instantaneous phasor is based on the first difference of the fault current signal. Since a DC-offset also appears in the first difference, the DC-offset is removed trom the first difference using the results of the delay compensation. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated for a-phase to ground faults on a 345kV 100km overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program was utilized to generate fault current signals for different fault locations and fault inception angles. The performance evaluation showed that the proposed method can estimate the instantaneous phasor of a fault current signal with high speed and high accuracy.

  • We propose a modified stochastic gradient-based (MSGB) filter showing that the filter is the solution to an optimization problem. This paper analyzes the properties of the MSGB filter that corresponds to the nonlinear adaptive filter with additional update terms, parameterized by the variable scaling factor. The variably parameterized MSGB filter plays a role iii connecting the fixed parameterized MSGB filter and the null parameterized MSGB filter through variably scaling parameter. The stability regions and misadjustments are shown. A system identification is utilized to perform the computer simulation and demonstrate the improved performance feature of the MSGB filter.

  • Filtering has been used to improve the image quality not only in MRI but in most image processing fields. In this paper, modified Fermi-Direc filter was transformed in various shapes, and then the optimum shape was designed. In addition, Newly made filter was applied in real clinic, which showed the obvious improvement in image quality. In conclusion, filtered image was superior to original image in contrast and sharpness. Then, this was proved by the histogram of R, G, B channel used for the quantitative analysis.

  • In constructing a slurry trench cutoff wall, a thin but relatively impermeable layer called filter cake can be formed on the excavation surface. The filter cake significantly influences the result of slug test analysis in the cutoff wall. This study is to examine the effect of filter cake on evaluating in situ hydraulic conductivity of the vertical cutoff wall along with slug test analyses. The numerical program Slug_3D was modified to take filter cake into account in the slug test simulation. With consideration of filter cake, the type curve method and the modified line-fitting method were used to reanalyze the case study taken from a landfill site. The previous results achieved by Choi and Daniel (2006b) without consideration of filter cake have been compared with the results in this study. The considerable difference between the two results shows the necessity of considering the filter cake in practice.

  • The image data compression, recognition, restoration, etc. are parts of the digital image processing technology. In the process by various devices, noises would be made. Because the noise could damage the image, we use the image filter to preserve the original image from the noise. The image filter used in digital image process basically has a two-dimensional structure. There an two methods of creating the filter - One is reiterating one dimension and the other is using an indivisible two-dimension image filter. The image filter is being widely used along with one-dimension filter according to each noise, and various median filters are being used to remove the impulse noise. In this paper, I suggested a powerful modified median filter, and compared with conventional filters for objective verification.

  • We have fabricated a modified hairpin-type YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) 2-pole microstrip bandpass filter with the center frequency of 5.8 GHz. We designed a hairpin-type filter with interdigital-coupled inner poles to improve the filter performance. Compared to a typical hairpin-type filter of the same size, the center frequency, the bandwidth and the insertion loss appeared smaller by 14.5% ,29.6%, and 0.55 dB, respectively. The dimensions of the filter were 13.7mm ${\times}$3.3 mm. YBCO films deposited on r-cut sapphire buffered with a CeO$_2$thin layer were used fur making the filter.
