Steady flows of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in the stenotic tubes with various stenotic shapes are numerically simulated. Validity of the modified power-law model as a constitutive equation for the purely viscous non-Newtonian fluid is discussed and the results of the power-law model are compared with those of the Carreau model, the Powell-Eyring model and experimental data for blood. Flow characteristics and reattachment lengths for non-Newtonian fluids in the stenotic tubes are presented extensively. Also, the analysis is extended to predict the influences of diameter ratio, stenosis spacing, number of stenosis and Reynolds number on the flow characteristics in the multiple stenotic tubes.
This article describes the numerical investigation of turbulent blood flow in the stenosed artery bifurcation under periodic acceleration of the human body. Numerical analyses for turbulent blood flow were performed with different magnitude of periodic accelerations using a modified turbulence model which was considering drag reduction of non-Newtonian fluid. The blood was considered to be a non-Newtonian fluid which was based on the power-law viscosity. In order to validate the modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ model, numerical simulations were compared with the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and the Malin's low Reynolds number turbulence model for power-law fluid. As results, the modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ model represents intermediate characteristics between laminar and standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model, and the modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ model showed good agreements with Malin's verified power law model. Moreover, the computing time and computer resource of the modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ model were reduced about one third than low Reynolds number model including Malin's model.
Branch flows for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids are simulated by the finite volume method. The modified power-law model is employed as a constitutive equation of the non-Newtonian fluids. Numerical analyses are focused on understanding of flow patterns for different values of branch angles, diameter ratios and Reynolds numbers. The numerical results are compared with the existing experimental data. The calculated velocity profiles and pressure variations are in good agreement with available experimental results.

A velocity controller using a modified model reference adaptive controller (M-MRAC) and a projection operator for a fish sorting belt conveyor system with uncertainty parameters, input saturation and bounded disturbances is proposed in this paper. To improve the tracking performance and robustness of the proposed controller in the presence of bounded disturbances, the followings are done. Firstly, the reference model for the conventional model reference adaptive controller (CMRAC) is replaced by a modified reference model for a M-MRAC to reduce unexpected high frequency oscillation in control input signal when the adaptation rate is increased. Secondly, estimated parameters in an adaptive law are varied smoothly under bounded external disturbances and a projection operator is utilized in an adaptive law for the proposed M-MRAC controller to be robust. Thirdly, an auxiliary error vector is introduced for compensating the error dynamics of the system when the saturation input occurs. Finally, the experimental results are shown to verify the better effectiveness and performance of the proposed controller under the bounded disturbance and saturated input than that of a CMRAC.
Concrete behaves as ductile material at high temperature. The existing stress-strain relationship is not valid at high temperature condition. Thus, stress-strain curve of concrete at high temperature is re-established by modifying Saenz's suggestion in this study. A constitutive model of concrete subjected to elevated temperature is also suggested. The model consists of three components; free thermal stain, mechanical strain and thermal creep strain. As the temperature increase, the thermal creep becomes more critical to the failure of concrete. The thermal creep strain of concrete is derived from the modified power-law relation for the steady state creep. The proposed equation for thermal creep employs a Dorn's temperature compensated time theorem

This article introduces a novel analytical model for examining the impact of porosity on shear correction factors (SCFs) in functionally graded porous beams (FGPB). The study employs uneven and logarithmic-uneven modified porosity-dependent power-law functions, which are distributed throughout the thickness of the FGP beams. Additionally, a modified exponential-power law function is used to estimate the effective mechanical properties of functionally graded porous beams. The correction factor plays a crucial role in this analysis as it appears as a coefficient in the expression for the transverse shear stress resultant. It compensatesfor the assumption that the shear strain is uniform across the depth of the cross-section. By applying the energy equivalence principle, a general expression for static SCFs in FGPBs is derived. The resulting expression aligns with the findings obtained from Reissner's analysis, particularly when transitioning from the two-dimensional case (plate) to the one-dimensional case (beam). The article presents a convenient algebraic form of the solution and provides new case studies to demonstrate the practicality of the proposed formulation. Numerical results are also presented to illustrate the influence of porosity distribution on SCFs for different types of FGPBs. Furthermore, the article validates the numerical consistency of the mechanical property changesin FG beams without porosity and the SCF by comparing them with available results.
In the current research paper, a quasi-3D beam theory is developed for free vibration analysis of functionally graded microbeams. The volume fractions of metal and ceramic are assumed to be distributed through a beam thickness by three functions, power function, symmetric power function and sigmoid law distribution. The modified coupled stress theory is used to incorporate size dependency of micobeam. The equation of motion is derived by using Hamilton's principle, however, Navier type solution method is used to obtain frequencies. Numerical results show the effects of the function distribution, power index and material scale parameter on fundamental frequencies of microbeams. This model provides designers with guidance to select the proper distributions and functions.
This paper presents a free vibration analysis of size-dependent functionally graded (FG) nanobeams with all surface effects considerations on the basis of modified couple stress theory. The material properties of FG nanobeam are assumed to vary according to power law distribution. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the modeled nanobeam and its equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle. An analytical method is used to discretize the model and the equation of motion. The model is validated by comparing the benchmark results with the obtained results. Results show that the vibration behavior of a nanobeam is significantly influenced by surface density, surface tension and surface elasticity. Also, it is shown that by increasing the beam size, influence of surface effect reduces to zero, and the natural frequency tends to its classical value.

The article brings the study of nonlocal, surface and the couple stress together to apparent the frequency retaliation of FG nanobeams (Functionally graded). For the examination of frequency retaliation, the article considers the accurate spot of neutral axis. This article aims to enhance the coherence of proposed model to accurately encapsulate the significant effects of the nonlocal stress field, size effects together with material length scale parameters. These considered parameters are assimilated through what are referred to as modified couple stress as well as nonlocal elasticity theories, which encompasses the stiffness-hardening and softening influence on the nanobeams frequency characteristics. Power-law distribution is followed by the functional gradation of the material across the beam width in the considered structure of the article. Following the well-known Hamilton's principle, fundamental basic equations alongside their correlated boundary conditions are solved analytically. Validation of the study is also done with published result. Distinct parameters (such as surface energy, slenderness ratio, as nonlocal material length scale and power-law exponent) influence is depicted graphically following the boundary conditions on non-dimensional FG nanobeams frequency.
In this article, static deflection and buckling of functionally graded (FG) nanoscale beams made of porous material are carried out based on the nonlocal Timoshenko beam model which captures the small scale influences. The exact position of neutral axis is fixed, to eliminate the stretching and bending coupling due to the unsymmetrical material change along the FG nanobeams thickness. The material properties of FG beam are graded through the thickness on the basis of the power-law form, which is modified to approximate the material properties with two models of porosity phases. By employing Hamilton's principle, the nonlocal governing equations of FG nanobeams are obtained and solved analytically for simply-supported boundary conditions via the Navier-type procedure. Numerical results for deflection and buckling of FG nanoscale beams are presented and validated with those existing in the literature. The influences of small scale parameter, power law index, porosity distribution and slenderness ratio on the static and stability responses of the FG nanobeams are all explored.
