  • Post-structuralism in Fashion tendency since the late 20th century has been developing in complicated and diverse modes. Post-structuralism has revealed the inconsistency of Western philosophy contering on rationalism, and has formed an important thought system of modern time through open thinking and various ways of expression. Among them, decentering which is formed from the concern for outlying 'others' while denying self-centered 'man himself, has supplied a new cognizance paradigm in the expression and interpretation of fashion formation. This paper has analyzed the expression-form of fashion in three ways: de-construction, discontinuance, and esthetic appreciation of the others. Finarly this study has supplyed, though decentering thinking, a new esthetic cognizance principle for fashion which is expressed in free and multiple meaning and form.

  • Fashion Illustration has become a key method in expressing Fashion, and is being applied in various fields of the modern world, where changes are so rapid that prescribing trends are meaningless. Fashion Illustration was stimulated through progress of wood block printing and development of printing techniques, and grew with fashion magazines. Fashion Illustration advanced along with the appearance of newspapers and magazines that were emerged due to historical demands such as development of printing techniques, spacial spread of human life, obliteration of traditional societies, diffusion of education systems, progress in postal systems, and appearance of commercial broadcast. Fashion Illustration showed growth and decline along with the influence of mass media such as magazines and photography, and the general publics demand. In this study, the author reviews Le Nouvau Mercure Galant, the magazine that first dealt with Fashion Illustrations. The author analyses the magazine in six stages of formation, growth, revolution, golden-age, decline, and reconstruction, to develope a theoretical analysis of Fashion Illustration and to give direction of use of Fashion Illustration in the future.

  • Guide modes in a graded index multinmode optical fiber are turned into clad modes when the optical fiber was bended into a perpendicular direction to its optical axes by microbending forces, which causes the loss of the guiding optical power. The theories reported on this microbending power loss can be applied to calculation of the transmission power loss only when the beding period equals to the mode coupling length. In this paper, we obtained the general expression of the optical power transmission loss in a graded index multimode fiber bended periodically. This can be applied to the calculation of the power loss of the periodically microbended fiber with an arbitrary bending shape and period. Also, by using the beam theory in mechanics, we could derive the expression of the displacement of the optical fiber caused by the external force which bends the fiber into a periodic trapezoidal shape. Experiments were carried out to determine the dependence of the power loss on the period of the microbending forces. Experimnetal results were in good agreement (in the same order of the magnitude) with theoritical values derived in our work within the bending period region of 2mm-10mm.

  • Skin Architecture', which has been an important topic of architectural discourse in the recent past, is playing an even greater role in the design expression of architectural materials nowadays. The purpose of this study is to define the epidermal conception about material matter and to discover the various modes of visual effect in the use of architectural materials.Epidermal thought is expressed in different forms, ranging from a simple covering made up of materials of all kinds , removable or technological wrappings. Analyzing the recent experiments from the works of Bernard chumi, Herzog & de Meuron, Peter Zumthor, Gigon & Guyer , it can be argued that the skin is a good emotional approach in the design expression of architectural material matter as epidermal concept since the 1980's.

  • The uterus undergoes dynamic changes during the cycle and displays many features typical of developmental process. In order to be prepared for implantation, endometrium undergoes predictable, sequential phases of proliferation and secretory changes. The uterus during estrus cycle synthesize a complex of signaling molecules with specific spatial and temporal modes of expression and which are critical for cell proliferation and differentiation. The purpose of this investigation was to use cDNA microarrays to evaluate the expression of genes of rat uterus in estrus cycle. Animals were sacrificed on proestrus, estrus, metestrus, diestrus. Differential gene expression profiles were revealed(growth-related c-myc reponsive protein RCL, heat shock 47-kDa protein (HSP47), cytochrome c oxidase polypeptide Vlc2 (COX6C2), calreticulin (CALR)). Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to validate the relative expression pattern. Using this approach, we found several genes whose expression in rat uterus was altered with estrus cycle. Our long-term goal is to determine the role of these differentially expressed genes during estrus cycle. This study was supported by through the Biohealth Products Research Center(BPRC), Inje University.

  • Both erythropoietin (EPO) and the short-form thrombopoietin (TPO) were expressed at low levels whereas the long-form TPO was expressed at high levels in transgenic animals. To elucidate the role of carboxy-terminal half of the long-form TPO which is absent in the short-form, we generated recombinant TPO or EPO expression vectors which contain or lack the carboxy-terminal half of TPO and examined their expression in the HC11 and 293 cells. The long-form TPO was expressed higher than the short-form regardless of the cell types, transfection modes, and promoters. When 3'-half of the long-form TPO cDNA was placed downstream of the EPO cDNA to act as a 3'-untranslated region, expression of EPO was moderately increased at the RNA level, however, no remarkable increase was observed at the protein level. These results suggest that the low expression of EPO, as like as the short-form TPO, is due to absence of the 3'-half in the full-length TPO that confers stability both at the RNA and protein levels.

  • Sectional added masses of an elastic beam vibrating vertically on the free surface in higher harmonic modes are evaluated. Hydrodynamic interactions between neighboring sections, which strip theory ignores, are considered for modal wave lengths of the order of magnitude of cross-sectional dimensions of the body. An approximate solution of modified Helmholtz equation which becomes a singular perturbation problem at small wave lengths is secured to get an analytic expression for added masses attending higher harmonic modes. As a bound of the present theory, the modified Helmholtz equation is solved for the long flat plate vibrating at high frequency on the water surface without any limitations on modal frequency. Finally, extensive series of numerical calculations are carried out for ship-like forms. It is found that when modal wave length is comparable to or shorter than a typical cross-sectional dimension of a body, sectional interaction effects are large which result in considerable reductions in added masses. For a fuller section, the ratio of added mass reduction is greater. In the limit of vanishing sectional area, the added masses approach to that of flat plate of equal beam. It is shown that the added mass distribution for a Legendre modal from can be determined form the present theory and that the results agree with the extensive three-dimensional determination of Vorus and Hilarides.

  • Although action modes of equol and genistein have been extensively studied, their precise roles in tumor cells remain elusive. To address possible effects of these compounds on protein expression in mammary tumor cells, proteins modulated in MCF-7 mammary tumor cells when incubated in absence and presence of 10 uM equol or genistein were identified through 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis, MALDI-TOF MS/MS, and NCBInr database search using Mascot software. Most proteins differentially expressed in MCF-7 cells after treatment with 10 uM genistein or equol were identified as being the same. Exposure to both compounds caused decreased cellular expression of RNA-binding protein regulatory subunit and oncogene DJ1 tubulin beta-1 chain, and increased expression of heterogeneous ribonucleoproteins F and L, KH-type splicing regulatory protein, and translation elongation factor EF-Tu precursor. Genistein and equol at dose used in this study showed common action mechanism.

  • As the technical medium evolves, the method of accepting information is changing. The technical medium also appears in various ways through the combination with art. This study aims to conduct research on how hypermedia, appearing from this, will reveal itself in the urban public design in terms of its expression mode. First, this study looks at the characteristics for expression representation of hypermedia art through theoretical considerations on the hypermedia. Second, this study identifies how hypermedia art is introduced in the urban public design through art cases. Third, this study reveals the characteristics depending on the expression mode of hypermedia art shown in the urban public design based on the analyzed cases. As a result, first, hypermedia appeared in various image lighting expression modes that use 'light' in the urban public design and interacted with the public. Second, hypermedia reacted to 'motion' and was the expression mode of using bodies in the urban public design and using peripheral devices and external environment and characterized by having complex patterns of multi-layered structure through multi-media. It also applied sight, hearing, and touch partially or integratedly to attract synesthesia from the public and checked mutual interaction rapidly in an improvised way. Third, such a complex digital technology was the network expression mode beyond space and time by medium of urban public design and characterized by the new experience of virtual space expansion through the world wide network and the communication mode of participation. With such a role change of media and combination with art, hypermedia has been achieving varied extended representations. It is considered to change our monotonous urban environment, restore our relationship with the public, and open a new field of communication. Accordingly, the significance of this study can be identified through how it aimed to display the expression method of hypermedia which caused its extension in the field of urban public design as well as through the derivation of relevant characteristics.

  • To handle the development of antifungal drug resistance, the development of new structural modules and new modes of action for antifungals have been highlighted recently. Here, the antifungal activity of quinonemethidal triterpenoids such as celastrol, dihydrocelastrol, iguestein, pristimerin, and tingenone isolated from Tripterygium regelii were identified (MIC $0.269-19.0{\mu}M$). C. glabrata was the most susceptible to quinonemethide among the tested fungi. Furthermore, quinonemethide suppressed cyctochrome c peroxidase expression dramatically, decreasing fungal viability caused by the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide. Thus, cyctochrome c peroxidase downregulation of quinonemethide may be a key mode of action for antifungals.
