The purpose of this study is to identify characteristic of Swedish craft and modern design in especially furniture and interior design through the philosophy and humanitarian functionalism of Svenskt Tenn. The study completed through researching what the design paradigm of architecture and furniture design in those days was, and theoretically analyzing how this unique brand became a leading modern Swedish style in the European stream of functionalism design. Working upon this research, the study concludes the concept of the humanitarian functionalism design what Firma Svenskt Tenn wanted to realize through analyzing the aspects of form and material of Josef Frank' works who mainly contributed to form the Svenskt Tenn's unique design identity and comparing them to the other design examples of those days. The result are as follows: 1) Organic composition of space and elements, styles and functions, 2) Unique space composition of amalgamation, 3) Open space with abstract patterns, 4) Furniture shapes of displaying space environment, 5) Overcoming the limits of pragmatic functionalism based on rationalism.

The recently published papers and essays regarding 'tectonic' bring us to rumination of its importance on comprehending modern architectural process. Many architectural theorists may seem to seek the substance of architecture through the discussion of 'tectonic' for the purpose of overcoming the dilemma of representation which can be easily found in modern architectural forms. Their emphasizing on its double-faced aspect as the manner of representation, that is semantic and aesthetic, may imply the significance of philosophical approach especially to the recent architectural phenomena. From this point, it ought to be meaningful to manifest etymological connection between the terms with semantic analysis and interpret the substance and ontological meaning of 'tectonic' referring Martin Heidegger's existential philosophy. Besides the works of Carlo Scarpa, that are known as the art of making, are exampled to prove the way how the ontological meaning of practical act is exposed on an artwork. The idea of 'tectonic' connotes not only technological aspect as construction of form and space, but also ontological aspect as joint or detail, that is the result of logos. The 'tectonic' means etymologically 'joint' having double-meaning structure, technology and aesthetics. It means 'detail' as minimum units of architectural form and as sites where making relationship or connection takes place in the way of ontological apprehension. The 'detail' as the place of innovation and invention implies the culture of an area, and expresses craftsmanship, which modem architecture buries in oblivion. This study aims to deviate from the aesthetical commercialization in which the modern architecture tends to fall, and further, propose the possible way to succeed traditional locality in an epistemological point of view.

Noting that there is an increasing trend of the so-called 'neo-single life style' among women these days, this research aims to make a product development for these neo-single women in this era of families of a single member by analyzing their concepts and characteristics. We payed a particular attention to the data from such sources as newspapers, magazines or the articles in the Internet. The essence of our research lies in the analysis of target market, in the suggestions in the brand planning and product development and in the designs of fashion and interior products for them. The result of this research is as follows. First, it turns out that these neo-single women enjoy a kind of multi-mixing code lifestyle rather than showing a preference for a particular brand. For this reason, we have decided to pursue a multi-concept brand fonn as a right direction for brand planning for them. Second, as for a philosophy behind the brands, we suggest a concept of 'small utopia' for neo-single women and express such as new aristocracy, happiness and pleasure. Third, we adopt 'YOU' as the name of the brand as it reflects their various life styles and characteristics. Fourth, as for the product development of F/W in 2007, we have decided on 'Minimal Natural' as it mixes up the concepts of the controlled beauty of sophistication and multi-functional elements and 'Modern Primitive' as it expresses the ethnic elements on modern images having craft factors and modern images. We have performed concrete tasks in creating images, coloring, making fabrics for each theme. Fifth, we have chosen and suggested other products that are suitable for these neo-single women who seek for multi-functional but simple kinds after surveying a wide range of products in magazines or in the Internet.

The modern trend in costumes, influenced by postmodernism, is to use of various patterns and images borrowed from diverse cultures of many ethnic groups. The Yi tribe studied in this paper is miner ethnic group in China, whose traditional costume is very splendid and modern. In addition, its embroidery or $appliqu{\acute{e}}$ pattern have a high artistic value in that its shapes are diverse, splendid and each one has its own peculiar elegance. As for the research method, I examined the Yi tribe's history, culture, traditional costumes and patterns through related books, research papers and inter web sites. As for the result, the Yi tribe's costumes consisted of a jacket, trousers or a skirt, an apron and a belt. Although the favorite color of the costume is black color, there are splendid embroidery or $appliqu{\acute{e}}$ decorations with the colors of red, yellow, green and purple on the chest or shoulder part of a jacket, the adjusting lines, cuffs or a part of a trousers and aprons. Patterns in their traditional clothing also show details that depict traditional cultural ideas that have long been formed in various fields, such as aesthetics, religion, philosophy, and customs. Moreover, most patterns displayed in their traditional clothing contain nature motifs and represent unique and beautiful designs; some patterns are even reminiscent of abstract paintings by modern artists. In conclusion, the traditional patterns of Chinese ethnic minorities reflect the values and notions of these races as well as decorative magnificence and a unique spiritual image. In other words, traditional patterns indicate the spiritual depth or symbolic stories beyond mere formative beauty.

Man has an unconscious desire to free oneself from everyday selves and a strong intellectual desire to see and analyze things in a different perspective. This provided a momentum for architectural design that has long been confined to its limits of modernism of being rational and objective. The ever-changing society that we live in filled with various attempts and pluralistic characteristics shows a complex set of attributes that can hardly be defined by a single term. As society moves towards an uncertain and volatile state, the boundary between literature, philosophy and art has dimmed out and converged. Such tendencies have been observable in recent establishments in architecture in the form of introducing external elements and create an alien and farfetched architectural space. Using the 'depaysement' defamiliarization method expressing irrationality and randomness, it is applied in various aspects, sharing the counter-rational structure and features of such architectural space. Hence, it is the purpose of this study to delve into the unique characteristics of depaysement through Magritte's work which reflects the unique pictorial world built under the influence of surrealism, and discover the $D\acute{e}paysement$ tendencies in modern architectural space. It is apparent in Modern architecture that, owing to the development in digital technology, it is showing process changes in design and an interfacial $D\acute{e}paysement$ effect in cyberspace, an interlace of reality and the virtual world. In this study, the focus of analysis was architectural properties such as the program, figure/spatial, material and the objective side, but due to mutual text properties, it is bound to be an overlapping analysis.

Interactive space became one of the modern contemporary society design paradigms. For elevating the interactive effect, we need Interactive design development which uses the influential factors on the interactivity. Digital technology is resulted in a change to a society as well as to the life of human and its way of communication. This study is inquiry into the relations and the common characteristics between ecological architecture space and eco-centric environmental philosophy by making a comparative research. This aims to examine type of spatial contexts for performed through literature research for theory by interactive space and case studies for ecological construction elements to design. And the range of case study is limited to interaction space in addition of interactive elements and user interface. And analysis conclusion is show the many type. Five principles that draw at ecological design conceptualization process, whole unity, variety of organic at ecological design conceptualization process, circularity, homeostasis, allness, biological evolution, diversity have involved with concept that presents in ecological esthetics and organic property of ecology-system.

Louis I. Kahn is cleary one of 20th century great architects. The character of his philosophy of architecture can be condensed as simple words; Architectural Essence, because the very nature of his work based on historicity is so fundamental. Some contemporary architects and architectural critics regard it as a symbol of Post-Modern Architecture era expressing relative multiplicity or an expression of Heideggerian existentialism, but others do as the attribute of fundamentalist like absolute Plato's Idea. Comparing the former, studies of the latter theme have been executed superficially and somewhat biasedly for last decades. In the context, this paper attempt to reanalyze Kahn's idea of 'Architectural Essence' with the deep view of Platonist focused on the concept of binary opposition and causality.

Grid serves as an auxiliary instrument that explains design logically and objectively when you designing an interior. But grid is unacceptable to the space which is produced by designer who wants to express a design subjectively. Because grid makes usual and standardized space without flexibility. Changing and developing a fundamental unit with modern touch is going to be a way compensate for the weakpoint Also versatile grid unit can support the designer's subjective intention. This study focuses on the limits of Wright's house which show interior space aestheically through grid planing. In this paper Wright's uniqe interior space pattern will be examined through the selection of some of his works specifically the Prairies and Usonians whose transforming is noticable as Wright house and analysis about formation process of grid planning characteristics and spaces is continued. With all this analysis I'm, going to look over Wright's philosophy and pattern that is usually intended by his grid planning.

The purpose of this study is to find out the symbolic meaning of interior color a the chosun dynasty's upper class houses, and to review it from a point of view of the Western coloring harmony theory. from this study, the Oriental philosophy, the ideas of Confucianism, and the ethnic traits influenced the interior color of the Chosun Dynasty's upper class houses like an-bang or sarang-bang. The results indicated that main color, auxiliary color, accent color were harmonized with similar harmony by hue and with contrast harmony by value and chroma. Therefore, interior color image of Korean traditional houses should be applied to the various design field as well as modern interior desigv.

The 21 century has entered a stage of innovation with current globalization. The technical development of science has changed more rapidly than any other era and through this change, design will control the world. For this reason, I consider that researching Philippe Starck's - one of most active designers in the world- philosophies and traits of his work can be the key to understanding 21st century's design characters and main trends. Furthermore this research will also help to predict future design. Philippe Starck has diverse traits but this study would like to focus on his trait of Surrealism. First I have arranged all his design backgrounds including periodic circumstance which influenced his works. Secondly I researched and analyzed how his design philosophy has expressed his works. Phillppe Starck defines Surrealism as an expression of a dream and unconsciousness showing an indoor view and he expresses his characteristic wit and humor by presenting completely different and exceptional space from what people have usually seen.
