The main purpose of this paper is to introduce 'Inframince' in modern and contemporary architecture. The Inframince(English: infra-thin) is a concept coined by Marcel Duchamp. The conceptual definition of the term "Inframince" by Marcel Duchamp replied that the notion is impossible to define, "one can only give examples of it:". It describes fine indirect perceptions of physical phenomena. Inframince is conductor of two dimensions into three, the essential dynamic in the practice of making space. Inframince is the interval between an inhabitant and their environment that both connects and separates. This study deals with the difficult situation how Contemporary Architecture represents itself over the 20th century modernity and asks the question how it presents its ornamentality. In order to analyse contradictory situation between self-referentiality and ornamentality in Modern/Contemporary Architecture we need to survey the historical process of changing position of ornaments and its meaning in time. The article also analyze the selected works of contemporary architects like Herzog & de Meuron, Jean Nouvel, to show that the trend reversal continues now more than ever. The Architectural surface must be a different kind of media that can communicate in different way with compared to conventional ornament. If we understand Duchmp's Inframince to be the provocation of the unuseful things, and if we interpret Contemporary fact that all specific Architectural Surfaces have been dissolved in timelines, it shows us post-trend of the Surfaces via conspicuous consumption or desire.

This study aims to examine the expressive characteristics and meanings of modern in contemporary fashion, especially focusing on Vogue and The New York Times. First, modern signified originality born out of borderless fusion and compromise. It was also expressed to signify diversity and tolerance not bounded by conventions, TPO, areas, ethnic groups, seasons, or gender. Second, modern meant functionality encompassing the comfort of body and mind. It was used to refer to convenient mobility and activity fit for the lifestyle of busy modern people. Third, lightness and naturalness were used as new meanings of beauty in modern fashion. In the fashion of the twenty-first century, the principal meaning of modern was lightness, which was sought after in everything including materials, modes of wearing, and ways of thinking. Finally, modern fashion was expressed as a democratic tool for social reform and used in the meaning of enlightenment to benefit society as well as oneself. The results of this study indicate that constant changes in trends, lifestyles, and psychology of contemporary society have the potential to give new meaning to the concept and the use of the term modern.

국제적으로 근현대 유산의 조경적 가치에도 주목하고 이를 전승하기 위한 노력이 전개되고 있지만, 아직 우리나라는 근현대 조경유산의 등록문화재 등록이 미미한 실정이며 이와 관련한 제도개선 방안에 대해서도 논의된 바가 거의 없다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 근현대 조경유산도 법제도권 내에서 보호받고 그 가치가 조명될 수 있도록 등록문화재 제도의 등록기준과 분류체계 개선 방안을 모색하였다. 현재 등록문화재의 등록기준은 유산의 유형별로 규정되어 있지 않고 포괄적인 단일 기준으로 규정되어 있다. 유산의 조경적 가치가 검토될 수 있도록 등록기준이 별도로 마련되어야 한다. 영국과 일본의 유사 제도를 참조하여 등록기준은 첫째, 조경문화의 발전을 이해하는데 중요한 가치를 지니고 있는 것, 둘째 시대를 반영하거나 특징짓는 조경이 잘 남아있는 것, 마지막으로 주요 작가의 작품, 중요한 인물 또는 역사적 사건과 관련된 것으로 규정되어야 한다. 분류체계는 기연구된 대분류-중분류-소분류의 건조물 문화재 분류체계와 정합성을 이루면서 근현대 조경유산의 세부 유형이 구체적으로 명시되어야 한다. 대분류는 건조물 분류체계를 따르되 중분류에 단일 조경유산이라고 할 수 있는 공원 및 녹지, 광장, 정원이 추가되어야 한다. 건조물 유산과 결합된 정원 등의 조경유산은 건조물의 중분류를 토대로하여 소분류에 세부 유형이 명시되어야 한다. 이러한 분류체계는 향후 전수 조사되어야 할 등록 가능성이 있는 근현대조경유산의 분류 근거로도 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

The point of this study consists in analysing influences of the postmodern design in the contemporary architecture. Since the modern architecture, new concept of architectural design has been materialized in the Late-Modern and the High-tech style but the revolutionary changes has been tempted by the postmodern architects who introduced the Rhetorical language in the contemporary architecture. In concrete terms postmodern architecture divided architectural elements from existing function (according to U. Eco, it is the primary function of architecture) and gave another function which is the secondary function or the symbolic function or architecture. And the methods of deviation from the conventional code is exactly the rhetorical expression technique which governed the history of art in Europe (but these technique is more intensively applied in the postmodern architecture) So this study is purposed to analyse the different rhetorical "figyres" regarding the syntax and semantic of the architectural langyage, and particularly to approach to the basic mechanism of the New Design Concept in the Contemporary Archiecture.chiecture.

최만린 작가의 <이브 58-1>은 석고 입상으로 광복 이후 추상미술 조각 조형이념이 반영된 '이브' 시리즈의 초기 작업 시기에 제작되었다. 근·현대 조각품은 다양한 재료로 제작되기 때문에 재료의 선택과 표현기법이 작가의 의도와 시대성을 반영한다. 따라서 초기작품인 <이브 58-1>에 사용된 재료와 제작기법은 작가의 작품활동 연대기에 중요한 기초자료이다. 본 연구에서는 과학적 분석을 통해 제작기법을 확인하고 여러 의사결정권자의 협의를 통해 보존처리 범위를 설정하고자 하였다. 먼저, X-CT 내부구조 확인 후 재질분석을 실시하여 작품의 형상학적 특징과 재료 및 제작기법을 확인하였다. 분석결과 상대적으로 안정한 상태로 판단되어 소장 기관, 작가 조수, 작가 생전 인터뷰 등의 의견을 종합하여 최소한의 보존처리를 실시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to dlassify into types of traditionality reflected in modern Korean houses in 1990's designed by architec Modern houses were divided into five types through qualitative analysis. Analysis is categorized into three parts, space-pl structural elements ornamental elements. Characteristics of each type were defined as 'Indicative expression of the traditionalit', 'Decorative expression of the traditionality', 'Eclectic expression of the traditionality', 'Contemporary expression of the traditionalit', 'Abstract expression of the traditionality'. The results showed that 'Contemporary or Abstract expression of traditionality(type IV and V) were major types of modern Korean houses expressed traditionality. This reveals that in order to apply traditionality to the modern houses, simplifed and sbstracted for were preferred comparing with the direct imitation of traditional forms.

This thesis aims to suggest the notion of the sublime as one of the common elements of contemporary plastic arts, as a new key for the reading of our visual environment. The concept of sublimity has been one of important categories in traditional aesthetics since the eighteenth century; beyond the domain of this tradition, however, it is rigorously investigated in sociology, literary criticism, visual art theory and post-structuralist philosophy, especially the investigation of post-modern conditions by Jean-Fran cois Lyotard. Jean-Fran cois Lyotard defines sublimity as the elemental feature of the late twentieth century visual arts based on post-structuralism and suggests the feeling of the sublime as dominant sensibility in post-modern society. According to Lyotard, the sublime is a contradictory feeling of pleasure mixed with suffering as in the theory of experimental avant-gardes; the post-modern sublimity is the feeling of suffering or agony when we feel in confronting the new and the unknown. The investigation of the sublime based on Lyotard's perspectives, therefore, is meaningful in decoding contemporary visual arts. This investigation, therefore, mainly deals with the post-modern concept of the sublime and contemporary visual arts viewed in the sublime.

As the world becomes more globalized thanks to the fast development of the Internet, a national identity becomes more important than ever before. Based on this, the study searches for the identity of modern American architecture through exploring the influence of modem American fine arts on the contemporary architecture. It was found that the concepts and the attributes of modern American fine arts obviously transferred into the contemporary architecture. The main concept was elimination of any kind of illusion for maximization of reality, and it was rooted Into American culture, the way of life and thinking. With the concept, the attributes were divided into two extreme poles: materiality and morphology: the former was evolved from Abstract Expressionism and Post-Minimalism and transferred into Los Angeles Avant-Garde architecture; the latter was from Pop Art and transferred into Postmodern architecture and Pop Architecture.

This study explored the literature review for intending to make contemporary furniture expressed as postmodern aesthetics accessible to the broadest possible public, particularly through an examination and realization of art and everyday life, using qualitative analysis about the related literature as the principal methodology. The postmodern furniture aesthetics of communication expressed through double-coding, which was seen by Charles Jencks as the defining element of Post-Modernism, is characterized by the use of ideas from the traditions of craft. Hence, I dealt with pre-Modern furniture and Modern-furniture aesthetics as the background of postmodern furniture called New design furniture. As a result, contemporary furniture called New design furniture represented the use of ornament, craftsmanship, or beauty from the traditions of craft, which was a main source for communication value in postmodern furniture aesthetics.

This paper attempts to illuminate the significance of the myth or mythical method used in The Waste Land, which Eliot adapted from Jessie L. Weston's From Rituals to Romance and Sir James Frazer's Golden Bough. While he was composing a modern epic, James Joyce's Ulysses and Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps made him sure that the mythical method would be the best way to make the non-relational and chaotic modern world into a work of art. Although he accepted F. H. Bradley's epistemology that one's actual experience is non-relational, he strongly put an emphasis on 'the unified sensibility' in John Donne's poetry with which a poet changes all the dissociated material into art. He also found another effective method to give the chaotic experiences an order, and to make them modern art: the mythical method in his contemporary anthropology. With the mythical method he incorporated the various barren, horrible and ugly aspects of modern world into a new unity in The Waste Land. In addition, he embraced his contemporary anthropological theory that a primitive life described in myths is a culture just different from modern culture, and heartily employed some aspects of primitive culture to make modern poetry as well as modern culture rich and exuberant.
