  • It is difficult to adapt modern control theory to power conversion system for the price of real time control H/W and the difficulty of S/W implementation. But recent development of large integrated circuit make it possible that One-Chip microprocessor processes high speed arithmatic calculation used in control theory. Specially this chip is called Digital Signal Processing chip. So, this research developes high performance, high reliable digital control system using TMS320C30 of Texas Instrument for real time control in power conversion system.

Fusion Phenomena Expressed in Fashion

  • ' Fusion fashion ' or ' hybrid fashion ' refers to methods of mixing two or more fashion elements. This method is not new as it has been used or expressed in art, and design for many decades. The study explores 1) the origins of fusion in art and dress, 2) different formations of fusions in different cultures and time periods and 3) how postmodernism is related to and influenced fusion fashion. The paper concludes that fusion historically expressed is related to fusion in postmodern fashion, and gave rise to different trends and expressions of modern times.

  • Power system fault transient signals are highly distorted due to the presence of high frequency components in the voltage and current signals and an exponentially decaying dc-offset component in the current signals. Modern protective relays have to make reliable fast decisions about the nature of a fault in the presence of such transients. To use a dc-offset removing filter makes relay algorithms much fast and reliable for detecting a fault. In this paper, several dc-offset removing filters are described, and characteristics of them are compared.

Restoration of 18 Years Rainfall Measured by Chugugi in Gongju, Korea during the 19th Century (19세기 공주감영 측우기 강우량 18년 복원)

  • The rainfall amount measured by Chugugi at Gongju was found in "Gaksadeungnok". Gaksadeungnok is ancient documents from governmental offices in Joseon dynasty. Rainfall data at Gongju are restored for 18 years of 19th century. In 1871, total rainfall amount is 1,338 mm. It is different by about 11% in the amount compared with Seoul Chugugi rainfall in 1871 and Daejeon modern raingauge measurement result during the 30 years (1971-2000). Annual march of monthly rainfall data at Gongju is similar with that of Seoul. Based on the results, restored rainfall at Gongju is consistent with Seoul Chugugi rainfall data. The rainfall amount restored in this study is measured by Chugugi which was installed at Gongju, in Chung-Cheong province. Furthermore, Gaksadeungnok includes rainfall amount reports by agricultural tool measurement in addition to Chugugi measurement. These facts prove a network of rain gauge in Joseon dynasty.

  • The recent computational revolution of Bayesian statistics has expanded use of the Bayesian statistics significantly; however, Bayesian statistics face a new set of challenges in the era of information technology. We survey the history of Bayesian statistics briefly and its expansion in the modern times. We then take a prospective future view of statistics and list challenges that the statistics community faces.

  • The use of modern pollen spectra for comparative interpretation of fossil pollen sequence requires the ability to distinguish different vegetation types by their pollen spectra, which may show similarities to fossil assemblages. Tertiary marine and non-marine sediments, the Yeonil Group, of the Yeonil area, Korea, was found thirty-two palynomorphic genera. One of the characteristic features of Yeonil geo-flora is predominance of coniferous trees over shrubs, herbs, and ferns. Miocene deposits of Yeonl area, Korea, ae differentiated with five zones. According to the pollen diagram it can be inferred the climate of the Tertiary Miocene of the Yeonil area, Korea.

  • 디스크는 내부의 정보를 최대한 숨기고 추상화하여 운영체제에 읽기와 쓰기같은 최소한의 인터페이스만을 제공한다. 결과적으로 상위 레이어의 소프트웨어는 디바이스에 대해 최소한의 가정만을 가지고 결정에 임할 수밖에 없으며 이는 여러가지 최적화에 걸림돌이 될 수 밖에 없다. 본 논문에서는 디스크가 제공하는 최소한의 인터페이스만을 가지고 내부 구조를 정확히 추측해 내는 기법을 소개한다. 기존에 SCSI 디스크에 대해 매핑 정보를 추출해내는 연구[1,2] 이미 존재했으나, 널리 사용되고 있는 ATA 디스크의 경우 이를 밝혀낸 논문은 알려진 바 없다. 이 논문에서는 ATA 뿐만 아니라 SCSI 디스크에서도 적용할 수 있는 더 빠르고 정확한 알고리즘을 제안하고, 실제 실험 결과를 제시하였다. 이러한 결과는 차후에 입출력 시스템을 최적화하는데 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이라 여겨진다.

A Study on the Idea of Forest Park in Kyongsungbu Namsan Park Design Proposal in 1917 (1917년 경성부 남산공원설계안의 삼림공원 개념에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze features and meanings on Kyonsungbu Namsan Park Design Proposal established in 1917, and to discuss the significance of the idea of Forest Park on Namsan Park. This Namsan Park Design Proposal has been the first attempt to apply modern park concept to broaden Namsan area by a professional park planner. The professional park planner to conduct Namsan Park Design Proposal is Dr. Seiroku Honda who is a pioneer of modern Japanese park planning. He clarified the concept of Namsan Park into Forest Park. With his idea we can imagine the position of Namsan at that time as a meaningful green space in Kyonsung city. In the proposal, the planning boundary of Namsan Park was considered widely as Namsan area into one big park, including the north with existing Wesungdae Park, Hanyang Park, Noinjeong and Jangchungdan, and the south with connecting park to Yongsan area beyond the walls of Hangyang castle. In a wide range of park space of the plan, parkways and park facilities were introduced. How to manage new parkways and facilities were also considered together. The significance of this plan is that it is the first trial of modern park planning with Namsan. In addition to the analysis of Kyonsungbu Namsan Park Design Proposal, the modern meaning and implications were also discussed.

Site and Erection of the Government Complex Seoul in Capital Seoul (수도 서울에서 정부종합청사의 입지와 건립)

  • This study examines the site and erection of the Government Complex Seoul which was a project attempted to assemble dispersed government buildings in a certain place. The study focuses on the fact that the project is situated between the 1960s' making of capital Seoul and Seoul urban planning, and the way how the project achieved symbolism in capital Seoul. The project, one of the 1960s' Major Government Buildings, led both plan of capital Seoul and transforming city Seoul. The 1960s' Major Government Building Plan had identical drive with the 1950's Major Government Building Plan, however the 1960s' had additional layer: Seoul urban planning. After restoration of the Capital building, Sejongro the capital street was planned to the site arranging government offices. The Government Complex Seoul was set to be a modern building on a site with historical context according to the plan. Because of the site, the Government Complex Seoul was constructed in aware of other buildings that represented a competitive high-rise atmosphere in the late 1960s, including the Capital building nearby. PAE International's plan was completed through a series of design modification, and it boasted a vertical aspect, unlike the horizontal-looking plan that was already won after the design competition. The Government Complex Seoul tried to acquire the symbolism in the central space of the capital Seoul and high-rised city Seoul. "The new construction method" was a requirement to achieve the height.
