Modernization in Korea has been constituted from a completely different context In comparison with the first world countries because of a sudden industrialization and external changing process of product was done under the structural influence of western modernization.. Therefore, by examing the relationship between the socio-cultural meanings of industrialization and the consuming style of the modern society, we can know about the formation of the ‘modern’ toward product and lifestyle. And in processing of mix with modern and tradition, we can understand that Korean characteristics and tradition becomes objectified, estranged and distorted to form the Korean style in Korea. A culture is changing in developing due to external influence ceaselessly, so it is significant that we will make ours in processing to our own receptive capacity.

But they are indispensable for an understanding of history, tradition culture of Korea, and form the basis for development and advancement of future culture at the same time. Therefore, this study is aimed to review the protection of cultural heritage in Japan, establishing the protection policies in Korea. In Japan, The Advisory Committee for the Preservation and Utilization of Modern Cultural heritage was organized by The Agency for Cultural Affairs. And this classified modern cultural heritage into four fields, as like; (1)monuments, (2)buildings, (3)fine arts and historical heritage, and (4)life, culture, and technology to pursue concrete research and study. The next step is tarrying out investigations to identify these cultural heritages, which were once the backbone of Japanese modernization and are now in the process of being lost, in an effort to preserve them as cultural heritage of the Japanese modernization period. The investigation will have conducted on an about eight year scheme starting with 1996. And it's will ask all local boards of education(of the prefectures, cities, towns, and villages throughout the country) to supply all related records or documents available and to cooperate in field studies. So now, many cultural heritages for the modern ages in Japan have been designated as Important Cultural Properties, Registered Tangible Cultural Properties, Monuments, etc. And they have been prepared various tax policy(ex, reduction of the real estate tax). Also, that's examples are not only one by one but magnified with protection of large-scale construction associated with region. In addition, magnified with region's activities. In conclusion, in the process, protection has been extended to a broader variety of cultural properties and much consideration has been given to the methods of protection in Japan.

  • This study examined food sharing characteristics revealed in the modern Korean society by both interpreting phenomena and analyzing literature. Diet was said to be the least influenced by western modernization in Korea. Concerning this matter, one of the important explanations to be considered would be a strong influence of 'the first settlement effect' in culture, as reviewed elsewhere. Sharing food means not only sharing food itself but also sharing communal solidarity. The latter was strongly emphasized in Korean food culture due to his own historical grounding. Some examples revealed in current Korea included sometimes too much generous treat when eating out, even saliva allowed food sharing, too much food provision, and too many restaurants. 'Dutch treat' observed in many occasions of food sharing in Korea was also viewed as a product of historical experience, which was related to the degree of traits of feudalism in modern societies as feudalism was based on a sort of a give and take contract. The association of the degree of traits of feudalism and communal solidarity was explored by comparing so called different meal treat manners between Koreans and Japanese, that is, more generous attitude among the former. The concept of communal solidarity was also examined with respect to Koreans' side dish sharing behaviors which sometimes accompanied seemingly insanitary saliva sharing. In addition, provision of too much food was analyzed by relating this manner to a traditional 'hand over dining table' custom. Traditionally, food on a dining table was not supposed to be only for those sitting on the table. Even though the 'hand over dining table' was no longer well preserved at present time, its cultural traits appeared to be well prevailed in the modern Korean society. Finally, an increase of restaurants as well as an increase of eating out occasions were postulated with respect to the notion that restaurants were the places for ascertaining communal solidarity while sharing foods. The above analyses suggest the importance of the influence of sharing originated from his/her own historical grounding for better understanding of modern Korean food culture.

  • Since modern mathematics textbooks were introduced in the late 19th century Korea, arithmetic experts started to teach modern mathematics using Arabic numerals at village schools and churches. After the Gabo Education Reform of 1894, western mathematics education was included in public education and the mathematics textbooks began to be officially published. We explored most of Korean mathematics textbooks from 1895 to 2016 including the changes of mathematics curriculum through 1885-1905, 1905-1910, 1911-1945, 1945-1948, 1948-1953, 1954-1999, and 2000-2016. This study presents the characters of modern mathematics textbooks of Korea since 1885.

  • The development of the economy and network environment has a great impact on physical stores, and physical bookstores are gradually upgrading and transforming with the pace of the times. This study takes the modern bookstore under the concept of the third space as the research object. The purpose of it is to understand the needs of consumers for the space of the modern bookstores, explore the characteristics and development direction of them, which provides theoretical guidance for the follow-up development of the modern bookstore. Based on the concept of the third space and the theory of lifestyle shops and reorganizing theoretical investigation and prior research, the researcher extracts the characteristic elements of modern bookstores in line with the concept of the third space. Moreover, the research analyzes five bookstores opened in large-scale commercial facilities after 2010 as research cases. Through the analysis of the results, it shows that the modern bookstore is a multi-functional and compounded space which is gradually transformed from a single bookseller to a seller of selling lifestyle proposal. And through the analysis of big data to predict the changes in market consumption, we can find out the different needs of consumers, so as to carry out the targeted design of bookstore space and then improve the value of it. In the context of the co-development of economy and culture, the transformation of modern bookstores actually conforms to the change of consumer demand and realizes a virtuous circle.

  • Project to deal with cultural archetype as a material for creation to develop modern one has continued. But it would be meaningless if cultural archetype is simply reproduced into modern one with modern medium so that such contents cannot see through desire that the general public, that is, contemporary recipients want. This is because desire of people who lived in the past is not completely same as one of modern people. This study began to make convergence from Bulgasalee(不可殺伊) as a Korean cultural archetype to cultural contents fit to modern times. To develop creative character based on ground for existing Bulgasalee(不可殺伊), these were investigated - method and meaning of modern transformation for classics, economic value of the character, and examples to understand direction of future development. Bulgasalee(不可殺伊) as a Korean cultural archetype is Korean style monster where wish of contemporary people was reflected so that it has character of anti-war and hero. To eat iron and be related to fire is a unique character that only Bulgasalee(不可殺伊) has. Bulgasalee(不可殺伊) re-born in modern sense based on such characters is equipped with tool to treat iron as arms and to it, image of fireman is reflected. It is thought that this study not only suggested character for successful modern transformation of cultural archetype but also newly developed value that the character has.
