  • In recent years, the Iraqi market witnessed a large opening that resulted from the entry of many different products with an absence of government regulations. As a result, marketing deception practices have emerged as a new phenomenon. This study examines the effect of deceptive brand image on consumer purchase intention, with consumer attitude as a mediator. A quantitative method was applied in the form of a questionnaire distributed to shoppers at Carrefour Supermarket in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. A random sampling technique was conducted. Subsequently, 200 questionnaires were distributed, and 175 valid questionnaires were analyzed, indicating an 87% response rate. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) has been utilized to test the hypothesis. The result showed that brand image deception has a negative impact on consumer purchasing intention. Also, attitude mediates the relationship between deceptive brand image and consumer purchase intention. The empirical finding confirms that deceptive marketing practices such as brand deception can change the attitude of consumers negatively toward brands and, therefore, affect the consumer purchase intentions. The findings suggest that honest brand marketing is beneficial in increasing the attitude toward the brand. This strategy will increase consumer purchase intentions.

  • Soft clay is widely spread in nature and encountered in geotechnical engineering applications. The creep property of soft clay greatly affects the long-term performance of its upper structures. Therefore, it is vital to establish a reasonable and practical creep constitutive model. In the study, two updated hyperbolic equations based on the volumetric creep and deviatoric creep are respectively proposed. Subsequently, three creep constitutive models based on different creep behavior, i.e., V-model (use volumetric creep equation), D-model (use deviatoric creep equation) and VD-model (use both volumetric and deviatoric creep equations) are developed and compared. From the aspect of prediction accuracy, both V-model and D-model show good agreements with experimental results, while the predictions of the VD-model are smaller than the experimental results. In terms of the parametric sensitivity, D-model and VD-model are lower sensitive to parameter M (the slope of the critical state line) than V-model. Therefore, the D-model which is developed by incorporating the updated deviatoric creep equation is suggested in engineering applications.

  • RC structure is the composite material system combined concrete and steel showing different plastic behavior. Especially, concrete shows very complex plastic behavior. Therefore, for plastic analysis of RC structures, we have to model carefully each plastic behavior of concrete and steel member. But, because of divergency as well as difficulties and dimensions of modelling, it takes a lot of time and labor or sometimes it is impossible to perform plastic analysis of RC structures. In this study, for simplified plastic analysis of RC structures, we propose material transformation method by homogeneous and isotropic material which have the same plastic property as RC. We generate homogeneous and isotropic material showing the same moment-curvature curves (bi-linear stress-strain relation) as RC members, using bi-linear moment-curvature relation by yielding moment, yielding curvature and ultimate moment, ultimate curvature of RC member. Finally, we prove compatibility in the study by comparing plastic analysis results for various analysis models using transformed material models and RC model.

  • This study is an numerical study of predicting the behavior of anchor embedded in weathered rocks, subjected to uplift loads, about ultimate pullout capacity and the failure mechanism. Factors influencing the behavior of anchors were investigated by reviewing the data about in-situ anchor tests performing numerical modelling with changing the bondage length of anchor, diameter of anchor body and diameter of tendon, and by correlations between those factors were evaluated to apply them to predict the behavior of anchors. As results of numerical analysis, a linear relationship between bondage length, diameter of anchor body and diameter of tendon with ultimate pullout capacity was obtained on the one hand, from the result of numerical analysis changing the Young's modulus of weathered rock, this parameter was found to influence to load-displacement and ultimate pullout capacity within the range of 10%, which was not so significant to affect.

  • In order to accelerate the rate of consolidation settlement and to gain a required shear strength for a given soft clay deposit, the preloadina technique combined with a vertical drainage system has been widely applied. Even if a sophisticated numerical analysis technique is applied to solve the consolidation behavior of drainage-installed soft deposits, the actual field behavior is often different from the behavior predicted in the design state due to several uncertainties involved in soil properties, numerical modelling, and measuring system. In this paper, two back-analysis schemes such hs simplex and BFGS methods have been implemented in an a Bisymmetric consolidation program, AXICON which considers the variation of compressibility and permeability during the consolidation process. Utilizing the program, one might be able to appropriately predict the subsequent consolidation behavior from the measured data in an early stage of consolidation of drainage-installed soft deposits.

  • Design and construction of tunnels require understanding the influence of groundwater. Particularly, it is essential to know how the drainage conditions at the tunnel boundary affect flow behavior of ground adjacent to the tunnels. In this study flow behavior of a leaking tunnel was investigated using physical model tests for tunnel depths and various hydraulic boundary conditions. Particular concerns were given to flow lines toward tunnels. Test results showed that the boundary conditions hardly influence on flow patterns and time required to reach steady state conditions. It is revealed that with an increase in water depth, flow lines concentrated to the drain holes. The physical tests were numerically simulated. Numerical results showed that the flow behavior was represented appropriately by considering filter-drain hole drainage rather than boundary drainage all over the lining.

  • This study provides the electrical model of combustible catalytic gas sensor. Physical characteristics such as thermal behavior, resistance change were included in this model. The finite element method analysis for sensor device structure showed that the thermal behavior of sensor is expressed in a simple electrical equivalent circuit that consists of a resistor, a capacitor and a current source. This thermal equivalent circuit interfaces with real electrical circuit using two parts. One is 'power to heat' converter. The other is temperature dependent variable resistor. These parts realized with the analog behavior devices of the SPICE library. The gas response tendency was represented from the mass transferring limitation theory and the combustion theory. In this model, Gas concentration that is expressed in voltage at the model, is converted to heat and is flowed to the thermal equivalent circuit. This model is tested in several circuit simulations. The resistance change of device, the delay time due to thermal capacity, the gas responses output voltage that are calculated from SPICE simulations correspond well to real results from measuring in electrical circuits. Also good simulation result can be produced in the more complicated circuit that includes amplifier, bios circiut, buffer part.

  • The brittle materials like rocks show complicated strain-softening behavior after the peak which is hard to model using the classical constitutive models based on the relation between strain and stress tensors. A kinematically constrained three-dimensional microplane constitutive model is developed for granite. The model is verified by fitting the experimented data of Westerly granite and Bonnet granite. The triaxial behavior of granite is well reproduced by the model as well as the uniaxial behavior. We studied the development of the fracture zone in granite during blasting impact using the model with the standard finite element method. All the results obtained from the microplane model developed are compared to those from the linear elasticity model which is commonly used in many researches and practices. It is found that the nonlinearity of rocks sigificantly affects the results of analysis.

  • In order to analyze the influence of particle shape on evolution of particle crushing and characteristic of shear behavior of granular soil, direct shear test was simulated by using DEM (Discrete Element Method). Six particle shapes were generated by clump and cluster model built in PFC (Particle Flow Code). The results of direct shear test for six particle shapes were compared and analyzed with those for circular particle shape. The results of numerical tests showed a good agreement with those of experimental tests, thus the appropriateness of numerical modelling set in this study was proved. As for particle shape, more angular and rougher particle induced larger internal friction angle and more particle crushing than relatively round and smooth particle. When particles were crushed, crushing was concentrated on the shear band adjacent to the shear plane. Finally, it can be concluded that the numerical models suggested in this study can be used extensively for other studies concerning the shear behavior of granular soil including soil crushing.

  • Recently, service failure from dysfunctional customer behavior has been observed in various service industries. Customers so-called 'Jaycustomer' can make bad influence to other customer's service experience which can be the obstacle of ideal service delivery. Therefore, approaching dysfunctional customer in service design perspective have became necessary, and modelling such customers through persona could be useful. For this purpose, we suggested the concept 'Evil Persona', and to find statements of personality trait which can make designers predict dysfunctional customer behavior, literature review and Q method analysis were performed. In result, dysfunctional customer behaviors were differed from service characteristics and were able to predict by combinations of statements. Based on this, more detailed customer information could be offered by presenting differentiated dysfunctional behavior information according to service characteristics. Since service design expanded its area, 'Evil Persona' can be valuable as criteria of verifying and compensating idea's vulnerability and limitation.
