Segmental Retaining Wall(SRW) has been variously applying in Civil and Architecture construction. Recently, the application of environmental element in all type's structures came to essential requirement, and the construction cases of retaining wall using reinforced soil and block are more increased than the past. But, this trend more widely was spread environmental element as landscape work for the backside of reinforced retaining wall as well as block itself. New environmental block, Greenstone Block, developed to apply of this tendency. The retaining wall system using Greenstone can be environmental constructing at both block itself and backside of retaining wall. The material tests, the axial compressive strength test of block and bending test of fiber-pipe, exercised to design and construction of vertical SRW, which were satisfied NCMA standard. Through this procedure, Rewall (ver 1.0) was developed, which can be automation design of SRW including internal stability, external stability and local stability. And these can be considered setback of retaining wall, as well the examples of vertical retaining wall using block presented to satisfying the follows; strength of reinforced geotextile, height of retaining wall, surcharge, types of backfill and groundwater level etc. Many problems investigated on after or before of construction were due to local failure, insufficiency of bearing capacity and groundwater level. Especially, the local failure was many occurred to during compaction or after construction, and the cases of SRW construction is similar to the results of model test on vertical SRW.
In this paper, a numerical study using finite element method with considering soil-structure interaction was conducted to investigate the stress and deformation behavior of a sheet pile wall structure. In numerical model, one of the nonlinear elastic material constitutive models, Duncan-Chang E-v model, is used for describing soil behavior. The hard contact constitutive model is used for simulating the behavior of interface between the sheet pile wall and soil. The construction process of excavation and backfill is simulated by the way of step loading. We also compare the present numerical method with the in-situ test results for verifying the numerical methods. The numerical analysis showed that the soil excavation in the lock chamber has a huge effect on the wall deflection and stress, pile deflection, and anchor force. With the increase of distance between anchored bars, the maximum wall deflection and anchor force increase, while the maximum wall stress decreases. At a low elevation of anchored bar, the maximum wall bending moment decreases, but the maximum wall deflection, pile deflection, and anchor force both increase. The construction procedure with first excavation and then backfill is quite favorable for decreasing pile deflection, wall deflection and stress, and anchor forces.

In this study, a total of 12 types of sequential model tests were conducted at the laboratory for small scale anchored walls. The sequential behavior for flexible wall embedded in sand was investigated by varying degrees of relative density of Joomoonjin sand and flexibility number of model wall. The model tests were carried out in a 1000mm width, 1500mm length, and 1000mm high steel box. Load cells, pressure cells, displacement transducer and dial gauges were used to measure the anchor forces, lateral wall deflections, lateral earth pressures and vertical displacements of ground surface, respectively. Limited model tests were performed to examine the parameters for soil-wall interaction model and the formulation of analytical method was revised in order to predict the behavior of anchored wall in sand. Based on the model tests and proposed analytical method, model simulations were performed and the predictions by the present approach were compared with measurements by the model tests and predictions by other commercial programs. It is shown that the prediction by the present approach simulates qualitatively well the general trend observed for model test.

Fuel tank sloshing noise of vehicle is caused by flow impact on the tank wall during sudden braking, and the sloshing vibration of tank wall is a coupled phenomenon of the fuel inside tank and tank wall structure. Therefore, Fluid-Structure Interface(FSI) analysis technology should be adopted to predict accurately the sloshing vibration. In this study, FSI approach was employed to analyze sloshing phenomenon for a simple tank model with velocity change of the actual vehicle test. First, the simulated results for rigid tank model were compared with those for deformable tank model. Next, influence of baffle location and shape of baffle holes on the acceleration magnitude and the maximum stress of tank wall was investigated. In addition, sloshing analysis for tank with another baffle type was carried out.

In this study, experiments were carried out after fabricating and installing a physical model considering the size of the prototype. In the model test, the number of struts placed on the wall and the applied acceleration were selected as test variables. Two different types of waves, long-period and short-period, were applied with magnitudes of 0.05g, 0.1g, 0.2g, and 0.3g. Measured are displacements at specified points. As a result of the analysis, displacement exceeding the allowable displacement of the wall occurred at an acceleration greater than 0.05g to 0.1g depending on the seismic waves applied. Therefore guidelines have to be established through further studies for aseismic design of earth retaining walls.
This thesis is to investigate the sliding behavior of cantilever retaining wall by using the commercially available program of FLAC to simulate its behavior numerically. Cantilever retaining walls with flat base, sloped base and base with shear key, uniform surcharges being applied on the surface of backfill, were investigated to figure out appropriate location of shear key beneath the base of wall and, thus, its applicability to field condition was assessed by comparing the analyzed results to each other. On the other hand, previously performed centrifuge model test results (Eum, 1996) were analyzed numerically with FLAC to compare test results with respect to characteristics of load-settlement of surcharges and load-lateral movement of wall. Based on the failure mechanism observed during centrifuge tests, limit equilibrium method of finding the ultimate load inducing the sliding failure of wall was used to compare with values of the ultimate load obtained from conventional method of limit equilibrium method. Therefore, appropriate location of shear key was determined to mobilize the maximum resistance against sliding failure of wall.
This paper is the result of the experimental and numerical research on the distribution of vertical earth pressure due to surcharge loads acting on cantilever retaining wall close to a rigid slope with a stiff angle. Centrifuge model experiments were performed with changing the roughness of adjacent slope to the wall, distance between the wall and the slope and gravitational levels. Vertical earth pressures were measured by earth cells embedded in the backfill of the wall. Test results of vertical earth pressures due to surcharge loads were compared with theoretical estimations by using two different methods of limit equilibrium and the numerical analysis. For limit equilibrium methods, the modified silo and the wedge theories, proposed by Chung(1993, 1997), were used to analyze test results. Based on those modified theories, the particular solution with the boundary condition of surcharge loads on the surface of backfill was obtained to find the vertical stress distributions acting on the backfill. FLAC with the hyperbolic constitutive model was also used for the numerical estimation. As a result of comparison of test results with theoretical and numerical estimations, distribution of vertical earth pressures obtained from centrifuge model tests is generally in good agreement with numerical estmated values by using FLAC whereas the wedge theory shows values close to test results in case the distance between the wall and the slope is narrow.

The dynamic characterization of a three-story auxiliary building in a nuclear power plant (NPP) constructed with a monolithic reinforced concrete shear wall is investigated in this study. The shear wall is subjected to a joint-research, round-robin analysis organized by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, South Korea, to predict seismic responses of that auxiliary building in NPP through a shake table test. Five different intensity measures of the base excitation are applied to the shaking table test to get the acceleration responses from the different building locations for one horizontal direction (front-back). Simultaneously to understand the global damage scenario of the structure, a frequency search test is conducted after each excitation. The primary motivation of this study is to develop a nonlinear numerical model considering the multi-layered shell element and compare it with the test result to validate through the modal parameter identification and floor responses. In addition, the acceleration amplification factor is evaluated to judge the dynamic behavior of the shear wall with the existing standard, thus providing theoretical support for engineering practice.
This thesis is an experimental and numerical research on bearing capacity acting retaining walls close to rigid slopes with stiff angles. Experiments were performed with changing the roughness of adjacent slope to the wall, its inclination, distance between wall and slope. Vertical stress and applied surcharge loads were measured by miniature earth cells and a load cel respectively. Stress distribution Vertical Settlement of surcharge load of rigid model footing were measured by LVDTs. Bearing capacities of surcharge loads were compared with theoretical estimations by using several different methods of limit equilibrium and numerical analysis. For limit equilibrium methods, the modified silo and the wedge theories, proposed by Chung sung gyo and Chung in gyo (1994) were used to analyze test results Based on those modified theories, the particular solution with the boundary condition of surcharge loads on the surface of backfill was obtained to find the stress distributions acting in the backfill and to compare with test results. From results of surcharge test with model wall being very close to the slope, analyzed results by the modified silo theory and to be in the better agreements than other methods.
For study on the unsteady wall interference effect, flows around a forced oscillating airfoil in closed test-section wind tunnels have been numerically investigated by solving compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical scheme is based on a node-based finite-volume method with the Roe's flux-difference splitting and an implicit time-integration method coupled with dual time-step sub-iteration. The Spalart-Allmaras one-equation model is employed for the turbulence effect. The computed results of the oscillating airfoil having a thin wake showed that the lift curve slope is increased and the magnitude of hysteresis loop is reduced by the interference effects. Since the vortex around the airfoil is generated and convected downstream faster than the free-air condition, the phase of lift, drag and pitching moment coefficients was shifted. The pressure on the test section wall shows harmonic terms having the oscillating frequency contained in the wail effect.
