To assess the station-keeping performance of floating structures in the Arctic region, the ice load should be considered along with other environmental loads induced by waves, wind, and currents. However, present methods for performance evaluation in the time domain are not effective in terms of time and cost. An ice load generation module is proposed based on the experimental data measured at the KRISO ice model basin. The developed module was applied to a time domain simulation. Using the results of a captive model test conducted in multiple directions, the statistical characteristics of ice loads were analyzed and processed so that an ice load corresponding to an arbitrary angle of the structure could be generated. The developed module is connected to commercial dynamic analysis software (OrcaFlex) as an external force input. Station-keeping simulation in the time domain was conducted for the same floating structure used in the model test. The mooring system was modeled and included to reflect the designed operation scenario. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed ice generation module and its application to station-keeping performance evaluation. Considering the generated ice load, the designed structure can maintain a heading angle relative to ice up to 4°. Station-keeping performance is enhanced as the heading angle conforms to the drift direction. It is expected that the developed module will be used as a platform to verify station-keeping algorithms for Arctic floating structures with a dynamic positioning system.

In the KIOST MOERI model ice basin, a lot of experiments to find the material properties of model ice and model ship tests are being performed. And therefore many data information was produced, yet it was saved as excel data format. In order to manage and use the data more effectively and systematically, a proper database management is required. To make realistic engineering DBMS(database management system), understanding of test process, the usage of data, design of data schema and computer language and system management are required. In this paper, basic design process and usage of DBMS based on network and multiple user concept is introduced.

This study describes the model tests in ice according to the frictional coefficient of an ice-breaking ship and the change in ice resistance by the analysis method for each component of ice resistances. The target vessel is a 90K DWT ice-breaking tanker capable of operating in ARC7 ice conditions in the Arctic Ocean, and twin POD propellers are fitted. The hull was specially painted with four different frictional coefficients on the same ship model. The total ice resistance can be separated by ice breaking, ice buoyancy, ice clearing resistances through the tests in level ice, pre-sawn ice and creep test in pre-sawn ice under sea ice thickness of 1.2 m and 1.7 m. Ice resistance was analyzed by correcting the thickness and bending strength of model ice by the ITTC correction method. As the frictional coefficient between the hull and ice increases, ice buoyancy and clearing resistances increase significantly. When the surface of the hull is rough, it is considered that the broken ice pieces do not slip easily to the side, resulting in an increase in ice buoyancy resistance. Also, the frictional coefficient was found to have a great influence on the ice clearing resistance as the ice thickness became thicker.

The resistance performance of an icebreaking cargo vessel according to the variation of waterline angles is investigated numerically and experimentally. A recently developed Finite Element (FE) model is used in our analysis. A resistance test with synthetic ice is performed in the towing tank at Pusan National University (PNU) to compare and validate the computed results. We demonstrate good agreement between the experimental and numerical results. Shipice interaction loads are numerically calculated based on the Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) method in the commercial FE package LS-DYNA. Test results from model testing with synthetic ice at the PNU towing tank are used to compare and validate the numerical simulations. For each waterline angle, numerical and experimental comparisons were made for three concentrations (90%, 80%, and 60%) of pack ice. Ice was modeled as a rigid body, but the ice density was the same as that used in the experiments. A comparative study according to the variation of stem angles is expected to be conducted in the near future.
The concerned object of the construction industry is environment. It is one of the main purposes of today's construction that human can live reasonably in nature. This study is about the fish-road connecting hydraulic structure in the river with nature. Chapter 2, starting with the general investigation about fish-road and helps comprehension for relatively general fish-road such as necessity, establishment purpose, history, study example, relating domestic law, design condition, consideration and form of fish-road. Chapter 3, containing the present condition of fish-road facilities in Gangwon-Do and thoughts of the problems and general countermeasures of existing fish-road. Chapter 4, Having Examined compatibility by amount of flowing water through hydraulic model test in the Ice harbor I-type model. chapter 5, Analyzation and arrangement to efficient establishment plan of fish-road and the result of the hydraulic model experiment to be beaconed a little in forward fish-road study. In the hydraulic model test result, when we suppose establishment of 1~3 in slope of 1/20, could know that applicable drought flow of the river is $0.06{\sim}3.0m^3/sec$ in case of Ice harbor I-type which transforming Ice harbor that was invented as studying project of the Ministry of Environment.
The impacts of dynamic and thermodynamic schemes used in the Community Ice CodE (CICE), the Los Alamos sea ice model, on sea ice concentration, extent and thickness over the Arctic and Antarctic regions are evaluated. Using the six dynamic and thermodynamic schemes such as sea ice strength scheme, conductivity scheme, albedo type, advection scheme, shortwave radiation method, and sea ice thickness distribution approximation, the sensitivity experiments are conducted. It is compared with a control experiment, which is based on the fixed atmospheric and oceanic forcing. For sea ice concentration and extent, it is found that there are remarkable differences between each sensitivity experiment and the control run over the Arctic and Antarctic especially in summer. In contrast, there are little seasonal variations between the experiments for sea ice thickness. In summer, the change of the albedo type has the biggest influence on the Arctic sea ice concentration, and the Antarctic sea ice concentration has a greater sensitivity to not only the albedo type but also advection scheme. The Arctic sea ice thickness is significantly affected by the albedo type and shortwave radiation method, while the Antarctic sea ice thickness is more sensitive to sea ice strength scheme and advection scheme.

When Arctic offshore development in the 1970's first led to the consideration of ice capable tankers, there was a high level of uncertainty over design requirements for both safety and ship performance. Also here was a lack of reliable methods to evaluate design proposals. Since that time, improved understanding of the ice environment has raised the confidence of design specifications. Parallel developments have resulted in a suite of engineering tools for ship performance evaluation at the design stage Recent development of offshore and near shore oil and gas reserves in several countries together with economic studies of increased transportation through the Russian Arctic has newly introduced the interest in ice capable tanker design. in response, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) applied its experience in tanker design and construction to the design of a specialized tanker with ice capability. SHI produced two prototype hull designs for further study. The performance of both hulls and of the propellers was evaluated at the Institute for Marine Dynamics (IMD) in St. John's, Newfoundland This paper discusses the development of the design, describes the model experiments to determine performance and variations, and presents the results.

The speed performances of ice sea trial on the Arctic(2010 & 2011) area were shown different results depend on the ice floe size. Penetration phenomena of level ice was not happened on medium ice floe and tore up by the impact force because the mass of medium ice floe is similar to the mass of Araon which is Korean ice breaking research vessel and did not shut up by the ice ridge or iceberg. The sea trial on the Amundsen sea was performed at the big floe which is classified by WMO(World Meteorological Organization). Three measurements of ice properties and five results of speed trial were obtained with different ice thicknesses and engine powers. To evaluate speed of level ice trial and model test results at the same ice thickness and engine power, the correction method of HSVA(Hamburg Ship Model Basin) was used. The thickness, snow effect, flexural strength and friction coefficient were corrected to compare the speed of sea trial. The analyzed speed at 1.03m thickness of big floe was 5.85 knots at 10MW power and it's 6.10 knots at 1.0m ice thickness and the same power. It's bigger than the results of level ice because big floe was also slightly tore up by the impact force of vessel based on the observation of recorded video.

The ships transiting the Northern Sea Route (NSR) have been gradually increased so that the number of ship-ice collision accidents would be increased. The collision between ship and ice floe can lead to serious damage of hulls and decline of ship's maneuverability. In this study, collision tests that a model ship is forced to collide with disk-shaped synthetic ice floes are conducted in a towing tank. The synthetic ice floes made of polypropylene which has similar density with real ice are used. The ice load is measured by a load cell installed on the carriage rod. The ice floe's motion is measured by a motion sensor installed on the synthetic ice floe. The influences of contact conditions such as hull form and ship speed on the ship-ice collision response are investigated and discussed by measured peak force and ice floe's motion.

Ice resistance estimation equations based on model tests and full-scale sea trial data from many previous research articles are studied. Measured ice resistance data and its empirical/semi-empirical estimation equations are summarized in common format and are compared with each other, considering three ship categories, i.e, icebreakers, tug/supply vessels, ice-strengthened cargo vessels. The most suitable estimation methods or prediction equations are recommended based on this ice resistance data analysis.
