Signal Generation Due to Alpha Particle in Hydrogenated Amorphous Silicon Radiation Detectors

  • The hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si : H) holds good promise for radiation detection from its inherent merits over crystalline counterpart. For the application to alpha spectroscopy, the induced charge collection in a-Si : H pin detector diodes ons simulated based on a relevant non-uniform charge generation model. The simulation was peformed for the initial energy and the range of incident alpha particles, detector thickness and the operational parameters such as the applied reverse bias voltage and shaping time. From the simulation, the total charge collection was strongly affected by hole collection as expected. To get a reasonable signal generation, therefore, the hole collection should be seriously considered for detector operational parameters such as shaping time and reverse voltage etc. For the spectroscopy of alpha particle from common alpha sources, the amorphous silicon should have about 70${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness.

A Study on the Regenerative Chatter Simulation in Turning Operation (선반가공시 발생하는 채터 현상의 시뮬레이션에 관한 연구)

  • In metal cutting, chatter is an unstable cutting phenomenon which is due to the interaction of the dynamics of the chip removal process and the structural dynamics of machine tool. When chatter occurs, it reduces tool life and results in poor surface roughness and low productivity of the machining process. In this study, the experiments have been conducted to investigate phenomenon of the chatter in CNC lathe without cutting fluid. In the experiments, two accelerometers were attached at the tail stock and tool holder and the signals were caught. In order to observe the effect of chatter on the surface roughness profiles, surface roughness profiles were generated under the ideal condition and the occurrence of the chatter based on the surface simulation model using surface-shaping system. Finally, the result of experiment and simulation have been compared.

다이아몬드 미세형상가공에서 자려진동의 발생경향과 안전성 평가

  • Diamond shaping is one of the machining strategies to make the optical micro-groove molds,and it is especially useful when rhe component is an assembly of the linear micro-groove array. A mirror-like surface and arbitrary crose-sectional curve can be easily made by diamond. Howerver, the cutting speed of shaping is relatively lower than that of the other cutting methods, and there exist an unstable cutting conditions that generate the chatter. This study is focused on the modeling of the simplified self-induced chatter of the diamond shapping. Form the chatter model and experiments, it is found that the unstable cutting conditions exist wwhen the depth of cut is low and cutting speed is high.

  • The success history of Light Water Reactors (PWR and BWR) showed how a dominant technology could be shaped in a political and economical context. The american nuclear politics, the interest of american nuclear industry, and the accumulated technological know-hows made it possible that the not inherently safe reactor-Light Water Reactor- became a prominent reactor model. The path dependency of reactor technology on LWR kept the engineers from developing a new safer reactor, even if the severe reactor accidents occurred. In oder to increase safety of nuclear power system, we should understand the social shaping process of nuclear technology.

  • In this research a fault-tolerant and bumpless switching control is proposed for boiler systems used in the power plants. Firstly, three operating points are selected to control the nonlinear boiler through the full operational range, and the $H_{\infty}$ loop shaping controller and the model-based predictive controller(MBPC) are designed. To prevent the windup and bump problems which are caused by the actuator saturation and the controller switching, an anti-windup and bumpless transfer technique is adopted to the $H_{\infty}$ loop shaping controller. Also the constrained gain-scheduling technique is applied to MBPC to achieve the same objective. Secondly, the fault-tolerant control technique is proposed to continue the control action without stopping the boiler operation even in case of some faults. Through various simulation studies, the performances of the proposed control techniques are demonstrated.

  • In curing Process of tire, Contact and slip occurs between green tire and curing bladder. The curing process is a critical step in the manufacture of tires. In this investigation, curing bladder shaping is examined using a finite element method. Specifically, a finite element model between the inner part of green tire and the outer part of curing bladder is generated using contact element and curing bladder is generated using incompressible element, The experimental tensile tests are used to get the material properties of bladder rubber on practical conditions. Numerical analyses are performed on two different bladder types, different overall outer diameters of curing bladder and different heights of curing bladder.

Vibration is an unstable cutting phenomenon which is due to the interaction of the dynamics of the chip removal process and the structural dynamics of machine tool. When vibration on, it reduces tool life, results in poor surface roughness and low productivity of the machining process. In this study, the experiments were conducted in machining center without cutting fluid to investigate the phenomenon of vibration. In the experiments, accelerometers were set up at the tail stock and tool holder and signals were picked up. Surface roughness profiles are generated under the ideal condition and the occurrence of vibration based on the surface shaping simulation model.

  • An adaptive tracking controller is presented for the vibration reduction of flexible manipulator employed in hazardous area by combining input shaping technique with sliding-mode control. The combined approach appears to be robust in the presence of severe disturbance and unknown parameter which will be estimated by least-square method in real time. In a maneuver strategy, it is found that a hybrid trajectory with a combination of low frequency mode and rigid-body mode results in better performance and is more efficient than the traditional rigid body trajectory alone which many researchers have employed. The feasibility of the adaptive tracking control approach is demonstrated by applying it to the simplified model of robot system. For the applications of the proposed technique to realistic systems, several requirements are discussed such as control stability and large system order resulted from finite element modeling.

A Robust Control Approach for Maneuvering a Flexible Spacecraft

  • In the paper, a robust control mechanism is presented to maneuver a flexible spacecraft with the deflection reduction during large slewing operation at the same time. For deflection reduction and maneuvering of the flexible spacecraft, a control mechanism is developed with the application of stochastic optimal sliding-mode control, a linear tracking model and input shaping technique. A start-coast-stop maneuver is employed as a slewing strategy. It is shown that the control mechanism with he strategic maneuver results in better performance and is more efficient than rigid-body-like maneuver, by applying to the Spacecraft Control Laboratory Experiment (SCOLE) system in a space environment.

  • In VLM-ST process, the fine detailed shape processing process is needed due to the use of thick sheets for layers. The developed process perform the fine detailed shape processing in VLM-ST parts using non-contact hot tool. To predict the heat-affected zone and temperature distribution of VLM-ST parts in detailed shaping, the heat flux from the tool to the surface was calculated for the finite element analysis by modeling the tool as a heat source of radiation. The dominant process parameters such as the radiated heat input, the tool speed, and the gap between the tool tip and the foam sheet (tool height) were considered in the analysis. The results showed a good agreement with the experiments.
