  • The numerical simulation using the Lattice Boltzmann Method in the field of computational fluid dynamics becomes wider in the engineering applications because of its simplicity of update rules compared to the conventional Navier-Stokes solvers. Here, a two-dimensional D2Q9 LB model is numerically tested with a few new computational treatment on the free surface. The single relaxation time is applied under the gravitational field where applied only in the higher density fluid because of its big density difference. At the free surface, the reconstruction techniques in combination with boundary conditions is adopted in order to get some distribution function coming into the fluid site from the air one, and surface tension, early stable test for the gravitional field is considered in it. With the implementation of the gravitational profile, conserving the overall mass and grid dependency are observed during the calculations and freesurface advance track is well captured with an experiment.

  • Because of efficient space utilization and fast key search times, B-trees have been widely accepted for the use of indexes in HDD-based DBMSs. However, when the B-ree is stored in flash memory, its costly operations of node updates may impair the performance of a DBMS. This is because the random updates in B-tree's leaf nodes could tremendously enlarge I/O costs for the garbage collecting actions of flash storage. To solve the problem, we make all the parents of leaf nodes the virtual nodes, which are not stored physically. Rather than, those nodes are dynamically generated and buffered by referring to their child nodes, at their access times during key searching. By performing node updates and tree reconstruction within a single flash block, our proposed B-tree can reduce the I/O costs for garbage collection and update operations in flash. Moreover, our scheme provides the better performance of key searches, compared with earlier flash-based B-trees. Through a mathematical performance model, we verify the performance advantages of the proposed flash B-tree.

  • It is very important thing that the high tide prediction along the sea-side before the typhoon landing. In Korea, every year somewhere of the near sea-shore has been suffered much damages by the high tide during typhoon season, and the governement has to spend much of the reserved budget to rescue and reconstruction the damaged facilities in the seas-shore area. In this point of view, as none of the high tide prediction program in Korea, the author aims to develope this kind of study, so that this application program may dedicate the concerned organizations such as Ministry of Construction, Commerce and Industry, and Agriculture Forestry and Fishery, etc. Due to developed the software of high speed electronic computer in recently, the complicated numerical analysis can be solve very conviniently. So the author tries to prepare the high tide predecation program using the equation of motion and continous in the fluide dynamics by the constant time and distance of the differentation method. The input data for this program are the weather chart and depth data of the mattered bay, inner-sea or outer-sea. This program has been applied on the Pohan inner harbor as a model and find ort the program computation results is coincide with the observed values of "FRAN" typhoon in 1976 at the Pohang harbor.ng harbor.

  • To overcome the limitations of conventional microsurgical tissue transfer, experimental creation of various neo-flaps using the vessel implantation technique has been reported. We have performed some experiments of fabrication of neo-osseous flap with local vessels and iliac bone slabs to know that the flap vascularity and neo-angiogenesis are achieved enough to microtransfer. As a next step of our previous experiments, the flap viability and the histologic change between the recipient bone and neo-oseous flap was assessed after microsurgical transplantation. The flap was created on the rabbit femoral region(n=25) using femoral vessel and the iliac bone segments($2.5{\times}1.5cm$ in size). Three weeks after neovascularization, the newly formed flap was harvested and microtransferred to the mandibular defect. As a control, contralateral mandibular defect was created and reconstructed with conventional free iliac bone graft. Scintigrams of experimental group performed 3 days after microtransfer showed hot uptake, while that of control poor uptake. Histologic and vital stain labeling study revealed good bone viability and vascularity of neo-osseous flap. In conclusion, prefabricated neo-osseous flap of our model could be transferred to the recipient site with retaining the flap viability and showed advantages over the conventional bone graft in that it was living bone graft.

  • For large DNA fragment transformation in dicots and monocots, BIBAC2 vector system was applied to Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa L. cv. Jinmi as a model plant, respectively. For Arabidopsis, the Th1 gene in T23L3 BAC clone whose size is about 90 kb was used as the target gene source for transformation. Because T23L3 BAC clone was originally constructed in pBelloBAC11, the target gene was reconstructed into BIBAC2. As the results of reconstruction, 476 colonies were survived in selection medium containing 40 mg/L kanamycin. In colony hybridization analysis, 24 out of 476 colonies exhibited positive signals. In the pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis, 11 out of 24 positive clones exhibited the band at the location of 90 kb. In Southern hybridization, positive signal band at the location of 90 kb was observed in all 11 transformants. Using these verified clones, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation was applied to Arabidopsis thaliana th1-201 mutant for genetic complementation test. Twelve thousands T$_1$ seeds were harvested, and antibiotic selection test is being analyzed to verify whether these seeds were transformed. for rice, COR356 that contains 150 kb human genomic DNA in a BIBAC2 vector was used as the target gene. As the results of transformation, 151 out of 210 co-cultivated calli were survived in selection medium containing 5 mg/L hygromycin, and 45 out of 151 survived calli were regenerated into plants. Transformation efficiency was 21.6%. Progeny test using 71 seeds is being analyzed now. These results provide the potential that large DNA fragments can be transferred into both dicots and monocot by Agrobacterium-mediate d transformation system.

  • By analyzing the Ge 34 core-level photoelectron spectrum, we studied the structure of the $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$ surface. Two surface related components tying on either side of the main bulk peak were identified in the Ge 3d spectrum. The existence and the position of the two surface components in the core-level spectrum from $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$ is similar to those of the $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$, suggesting the similarities in structure of the two surfaces. The core-level photoelectron spectra of the Li-induced $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$ surface are well consistent with the honeycomb-chain-channel model, which was proposed as the structure of the $Si/Ge(111)-3\times1$ induced by alkali metals.

  • We investigated the brain substrate of repetition priming on the implicit memory taskusing low-resolution electromagnetic tomography (LORETA) with high-density 128 channel EEG and individual MRI as a realistic head model. Thirteen right-handed, healthy subjects performed a word/nonword discrimination task, in which the words and nonwords were presented visually, and some of the words appeared twice with a lag of one or five items. All of the subjects exhibited repetition priming with respect to the behavioral data, in which a faster reaction time was observed to the repeated word (old word) than to the first presentation of the word (new word). The old words elicited more positive-going potentials than the new words, beginning at 200 ms and lasting until 500 ms post-stimulus. We conducted source reconstruction using LORETA at a latency of 400 ms with the peak mean global field potentials and used statistical parametric mapping for the statistical analysis. We found that the source elicited by the old words exhibited a statistically significant current density reduction in the left inferior frontal gyrus. This is the first study to investigate the generators of repetition priming using voxel-by-voxel statistical mapping of the current density with individual MRI and high-density EEG.

  • As Web technology and functions have recently changed to a user-focused paradigm, new studies are being conducted to construct dynamic learning content that enables the learner's participation and continuous learning in the field of e-learning research and design. This paper covers a study on the degree of difficulty in learner-focused dynamic learning contents to provide efficient learning environments for its adaptation to e-learning 2.0. This study suggests DLA (Dynamic Level Adjustment) to provide learner-focused contents. The suggested system will be a guideline to control and adopt learning content that can be easily applied to the environmental change, and more in-depth future research can be performed by using the system. A dynamic learning content model was made to recognize various learning patterns of learners as a result of the performance evaluation.

  • To improve $B_1$ homogeneity in high field MRI, the RF power is applied to the transmit array coil elements sequentially in the time-multiplexed way. Since only a single coil element is activated in a time-multiplexing slot, the global standing wave formation in the human body is greatly suppressed. The time-multiplexing slot width is on the order of micro seconds, hence, high-order-harmonic slices can be placed far from the transmit coil and simultaneous multiple slice selection can be avoided. The $B_1$ homogeneities of a birdcage coil and an eight-channel transmit array coil have been compared through finite difference time domain simulations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed technique can reduce the peak-to-peak $B_1$ inhomogeneity down to one fourth of the transmission with a birdcage coil on the central plane of the human head model at 3 T. The mimicking experiments at 3 T, eight separate experiments with a single coil element activated and image reconstruction by combining the eight images, also show promising results. It is expected that the proposed technique has some advantages over other $B_1$ improving methods in real practice since simple RF switching circuitries are only necessary and electromagnetic coupling between the coil elements is out of concern in its realization.

  • 3D models in urban areas are essential for a variety of applications, such as virtual visualization, GIS, and mobile communications. LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a relatively new technology for obtaining Digital Terrain Models (DTM) of the earth's surface since manual 3D data reconstruction is very costly and time consuming. In this paper an approach to extract ground and non-ground points data from LIDAR data by using filtering is presented and the accuracy for generating DTM from ground points data is evaluated. Numerous filter algorithms have been developed to date. To determine the performance of filtering, we selected three filters which are based on the concepts for height difference, slope, and morphology, and also were applied two different data acquired from high raised apartments areas and low house areas. From the results it has been found that the accuracy for generating DTM from LIDAR data are 0.16 m and 0.59 m in high raised apartments areas and low house areas respectively. We expect that LIDAR data is used to generate the accurate DTM in urban areas.
